I've not yet finished working on my 710D, but I have to say it's a deck I really like. Not perfect, but it is very well made, and no silly unobtainable ICs to worry about. ;o)

Hi again, Just noticed this NAD. I repaired a compleley broken NAD 6040. Both VU meters were disfunctional for a start - their dial loading springs had buckled and so were set at various points. Once the springs have gone, it's 'goodbye' to the meters. I have replaced them with a set of Chinese made VU meters; beggers can't be choosers! ;o)

Strange you said the you can only play one set of speakers at a time, with regards to the remote speakers. This is inaccurate. You cannot turn off the main speakers. You can only turn the remote speakers on and off.

I also have this deck, and have been working on it for nearly a week. What's your opinion on the RW function - does the deck easily rewind from one end of the tape to the other end?

That’s in beautiful condition. I’d love to find an 810 in that condition. I’ve got a model 510, very similar but with a Dual 1210 turntable.

I have one of those. it needs new belts but it works very well. I even have the service manual for it.

For me, this old tecnology its Magic, its pure Magic and The more important The sound its waaaaaaaaay better than nowadays tecnology.

I bought an A260 brand new back in 1976 and it worked perfectly until very recently so I’ve ordered a used shop manual and small oscilloscope and signal generator and I’m going to try and fix it. It’s a great unit , hang on to it ☝️

I have one all works well but the fm stereo sound is statically crazy an one channel on matter what display says , but I used a cheap thin speaker wire in get an antenna or heavy gage 14 to 18 gage wires to see if that helps , an if not I just use disc player or turn table with it an or cassette deck

Are you sure it's a 3 head deck?? I have one and I don't see the three heads or the monitor-source button, or maybe yours is a different model

I have the 5220 model. Beautiful deck. Still works.

There are a lot of old 8 track decks out there, but few of them are in good condition.

My uncle had the 5220 which was the exact same deck but was equipped with Dolby and it sounded great. I made plenty of mixtapes on it in the late 70's and early 80's before I got my own cassette deck. I suspect Marantz made the 5200 for people who would buy their receivers that had built-in Dolby noise reduction.

Fm mpx is an older term they used for fm stereo. It stands for multiplex.

multiplex is just another word for stereo

MPX is an FM noise filter. Something like Dolby FM minus the license fees.

Seen similar ones in Canada but they were labeled "Martel" not Telmar.

MPX I believe stands for multiplex. I had an identical one I believe. Same solid wood casing, not plywood. It was engraved Tokai. Searched online for the brand and found that they are making guitars now.
