I just had a Pontiac 400 built at a reputable machine shop. Did everything to avoid this. Break in oil the whole 9 yards. The camshaft lasted 5 minutes. I am beyond pissed.

Just buy a new one. Unless you drive a supercar, the machine shop costs more.

Listen people. Camshafts and crankshaft are MADE of hardened steel!!!!! You can't grind through the hardness that it is actually made of..... that's why you can weld and regrind damaged cranks and cams!!!!!

Is the base circle reduced enough to allow this to be used as a "Retrofit" cam in an early non roller block? Is this a grind that you normally have available?

In East Germany CARL ZEISS used to grind & polish flat tappet lifters for soviet and czech V8 engines. Pretty much the same machines that made lenses for telescopes and binoculars.

Ever thought about missing oil thrower paddles on aftermarket conrods? Original GM Small Block rods have so called Splashers that throw oil on the cam lobes, most aftermarket rods dont have these oil throwers

I bought a set of Crower cam saver lifters for a 351W last week to start accumulating parts for a new engine for my truck eventually and man those things looked like they were ground with an angle grinder. First one out of the box, huge deep circular scratch in the lifter face. The rest were flat or concave, made me wonder if those were used lifter bodies that were reground or something and I sent them back. Those would have wiped out a cam immediately. Found myself a set of NOS genuine Ford lifters that are older than I am for the same price, looked good in the pictures hope they arrive and turn out alright. Still need a cam though not sure what to pick.

The GM lifters are what people are saying to use now. They are $185 a set and have hardened bases beyond what was considered usable in the past. They are sold by many of the sources also selling cams online. I am building an engine that rounded out lobes that was Rebuilt by the previous owner. I am terrified to use a flat tappet and have to do this process over again to say the least. But a roller is $1200 now for the retro version. Still cheaper than redoing this engine again I guess. Sucks we are in this position as enthusiasts..

If you work for Delta Cams, I don't recognize you. Been going for many years. I have about 15 cam cores in your shop for the next time I order a cam. The last cam I ordered was a 1968 428 cj .

I ONLY buy ISKY cams they are still family owned and stand behind their premium products, Sig Erson and Crower is also great. Is Racer Brown still in business? Friend of mine has a quite good and reliable flat tappet cam made by Elgin.

I have a 4.3 Mercruiser camshaft that’s got a bit of hitting. Would it be safe to grind it down up to .020 without changing my lifter rods

I have a 4.3 Mercruiser with a marine cam in it. It’s got a little bit of pitting with hydraulic lifters. What do you think would be the max that I could grind off before it starts to affect the operation of my engine thanks.

I build a cam shipping tube from 4" PVC with one end glued and capped, and the other with a threaded plug adapter and plug. The cam gets a nice blanket of bubble wrap, taped up, inserted and plug threaded in which is then taped, and sent in. LOL The I get my cam sent back in a box instead of my tube ...... Love me some Delta Cam action !

Funny you say this! I bought a cam and followers on eBay the guy didn’t tape the ends and the cam knocked out the end of the box and 2 followers were gone !
