The belly dancing tent
zhlédnutí 129Před 6 lety
At the annual Gulf Wars (Medieval event) there are many kingdoms and many areas to explore. Several thousand people camp all week long and dress for the most part according to their favorite Middle Age persona. So I wandered into a belly dancing tent in the Middle Eastern area of the camp. Both, guys and girls were dancing. It was early and hadn't filled up yet so I was able to record this. I a...
World War II plane

The "Wings of Freedom" flew into town and I was sent to cover the story and went along for a ride. Here's some raw video that was shot. No loud plane noises...sorry, but the visuals were really nice. Flying in the last known B-24 bomber in working, flying condition was indeed an honor and a blast. There was a B-17 I would've loved to have flown in but I took what I could get on this day. Maybe ...

Sorry about the dizzying flight pattern, I was seeing how fast my plane could climb. I maxed out at about 3,000 feet and stabilized my flight towards the middle of the video. Flying the RC plane in FPV.
Creating Art for Children's Books - Live Demo
zhlédnutí 77Před 6 lety
Artist Kym Garraway gives an art demonstration to a group of elementary kids during a "Young Authors Celebration" event at William Carey University in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. The theme was illustrating children's literature and creating art for children's books. The camera work isn't the best but it was a spur of the moment decision to record it. I hope you find it as enjoyable and entertaini...

While covering a story about a wild pig that had been caught (seen over the shoulder in the distance of the first few frames) and was being kept in a very small pen for weeks. This lady neighbor saw me filming the pig (I was standing on the side of the road) and she came over and demanded that I leave the area and not film anymore. Mind you, this is the neighbor not the owner. She was trying to...

Finwing Penguin Flying High

Video from the DVR in the Fatsharks. I'm flying my Finwing Penguin flying over a field of hay bales on a Saturday afternoon. I can't say enough about how robust this Penguin plane is. I've crashed and repaired her so much that I call her the "Bride of Frankenstein" but she's just so easy to repair and always flies like a brand new one. Eventually, I'll get better at flying and there'll be less ...

Preface: I apologize for the video not being very steady...I was flying for fun instead of just for the camera. I'll do better next time ;) Video from the DVR in the Fatsharks. Windy Day Flying

Belly Dancers at Gulf Wars 2015
zhlédnutí 97Před 9 lety
This is a brief snippet of belly dancers at the second largest Society for Creative Anachronism event called, Gulf Wars. It's held each year in March at Lumberton, Mississippi. It's a week long event that's in my opinion, a small slice of heaven. Food fun and friends. But let's not forget the battles, the jousting, the feasting, primitive arts and crafts. If you've never been..then you're missi...

amazing!
He lived to learn a important lesson..
Great look! Great fun! ❤️
Yay for Scotland, Aberdeenshire and the Caledonians!
Scotland Forever!
I've seen this happen with a winch cable.
I flinch every time.
Ouch
how do you acknowledge if you died? do you just beat on each other till one dude gives up?
it's an honor system. If you get hit in the back of the head or a certain amount of blows in vital areas or you get knocked down you are obliged to walk back to the home flag and counted as dead. However, there are judges in the ranks who will tap you out if you are less than honorable. Lol
Yea!!!! Papa Thunder!!! He is so good at teaching the forge. I like to just sit and watch.
Me the Trimarian King in blue and white at 18:42-50 19:21
That was my first year...it's so much fun. I've yet to miss a year since then.
I've always loved Medieval and Fantasy related stuff, but I'm not going to lie, the movie Role Models is what made me realize stuff like this existed lol.
Only eighteen days away from opening day...I need this to hurry up and get here. Lol
I fight Rapier in the SCA, and we bitch about the heat and discomfort of a few layers of linen or whatever, on a hot day. I can't imagine what you heavy combat fighters endure. The things we do for the love of our hobbies, LOL.
Hahaha
Thank you for posting this. This is my first year of Gulf Wars and I am so excited!!
You're going to have a blast. I'm counting the days/hours/minutes till opening day.
Love seeing that Sable Star #AnsteorraPride
Is it Ansteorra that has chili night? Either way...I look forward to chili night all year long. Not very medieval of me...but the truth. Lol
@@123youknowme I honestly have no clue lmao. I've only been in the SCA for less than a year and I've never been to Gulf Wars
@@AbbyWhisperWitch I believe it is. It's really good chili. You should try to make it this coming March. You won't be disappointed.
@@123youknowme I'm gonna try lol. Some of us are planning to carpool
She seen the camera and knew it was time for her to go
A Knights Tale also had a huge influence on me. Thanks for this video!!!
You are quite welcome. And yes..that is a great movie.
Love dunne falls
What are you going to do lady...quickscope him from a mile away
This isn't a video game
I recognize some of these people!!
I love this stuff but going there this year doesn't look like its going to happen for me. Maybe next year.
Ain't no way. I live in Jones county and I have never seen a bear in the woods.
Black bears are extremely shy animals. It was in Jones County. I could tell you right where and you'd instantly know where it was. The owners there have pics of him and are the ones who tipped me off about him. State wildlife came in and caught him and put a tracking collar on him and released him in the Chickasawhay Wildlife Management area. I checked with them a few months later and they said he had traveled all the way down to Mobile, Alabama area and back up here in that time. They said that the southern Alabama area has a huge bear population and this one was most likely one of the young bears from that area and wandered up here because there was less competition from other bears that was older and more established with their territories.
123youknowme I wish we had more of them around here. I have lived here all my life been hunting and never seen not one bear
123youknowme and o have seen them all in Colorado or other states
“They won’t let me fight naked here”
bummer
What time of year do they usually host the Gulf War? I live in the Kingdom of Trimaris so this is probably the most accessible major battle event for me, but I’m curious as to how Wars work in SCA and when they’re hosted
Here's the dates for 2019: March 9, 2019 @ 8:00 am - March 16, 2019 @ 5:00 pm
Come over and check it out..It's in Lumbertson, Mississippi and held at King's Arrow Ranch. You won't regret the trip. I love that folks don't walk around all day in mundane (modern world) clothes with a cell phone stuck in their faces all week. Unless it's to take a quick pic. Lol
narcissist
That burn out tho
It's one of the few places that hasn't been politicized yet. It's a great place to become a kid with the kids.

Lol...I like that idea!
I used to go to these events with my family. My dad started construction working, though, so we don't really go anymore. They were fun, though, and my dad knows a lot of people who go to the SCA events.
They really are great family events to attend. Since recording this video, I've joined the SCA along with my son and my brother, and have been back for the past three years, building great memories together. I'm glad they bring back fond memories for you as well.
aw one armed Pom
How many people attend this event, on average? I can't seem to find information on attendance at the Gulf Wars anywhere.
at least 10,000
Sean Kistler For Gulf Wars or Pennsic?
For gulf I guesstimate 10000 and for pensic about 30000
Sean Kistler Pennsic War 40 had 11,550. 45 had 10,368.
Cable didn't snap, looks like the tow hook pin on the red truck either broke or was installed partially.
The lady doing/teaching the card weaving at 4:03 typifies the transmittal of misinformation rampant in the SCA . I have been a spinner and weaver for over 25 years and consider myself something of an expert. About 15 years ago, disgusted with passing-on erroneous information backed op by specious research, I quit the SCA For instance; "Egyptian" cotton is a transplant of Pima cotton introduced to Egypt to boost its economy in the 1850's.cotton Previous to that cotton was a product of the Far East and simultaneoully, the New World. When she spoke about using card weaving as a woven in border on fabric; the card weaving was done FIRST. It was particularly useful in spacing the warp threads on warp weighted looms. This method is still in use by indiginous tribes in the arctic. This research does not take a PhD. Al the info is readily avaiulable on the internet. Unfortunately, the bad info is there too and it takes a discriminating mind to realize and dig for the truth.
+Suzanne Cooke Interesting observation. Sad that you have left, since clearly the SCA would benefit from your knowledge. Nonetheless, one of the things I love about the SCA is exactly what you despise. . . the fact that it allows for all people of varying degrees of knowledge, wealth, experience, and ambition to participate in whatever degree of authenticity and rigor that they are comfortable with. I don't HAVE to be 100% historically accurate in order to participate and enjoy the ambiance. There are plenty of super accurate living history groups out there. They are incredible in their own right. But they end up seeming rather elitist and stodgy by comparison. I would much rather enjoy the kaleidoscope of history and creativity, immersed in the "flavor" of multiple time periods and cultures, without the hassle of having to be perfect in every detail. Remember, for most of us, this is not a passion, it is just a part time hobby. And having said all that, there is still a place for in the SCA for folks like yourself, who can help nudge folks like myself toward a more period expression of our creativity.
I've never objected to individuals participating at whatever their comfort level. Nor am I an advocate of 100% authenticity I DO object to the TEACHING of historical inaccuracy as fact by self styled mavens. The SCA has institutionalized promulgation of historical mythology at the expense of actual history.
Isn't misinformation one of the pillars of the SCA? Or was it Ignorance?
The SCA is for people who want to live in Tolkien's fairyland. How much they want to bring in actual history is up to them, but for most people, it's a casual affair.
i can't imagine why you'd strip this video of its sound, even if you're planning on adding music later... there's so much interview information here that we're completely missing. is your finished video up yet?
nathan scarabin I went to this as simply a news story and was shooting what we call as B-roll or cutaway footage. I had never been to this event before and the audio is mostly nat sound (mic on camera). It wasn't intended for public viewing but after I got to the event, I became more intrigued by what I was filming. I was also being rushed along by a media event guide. I tried getting the best of what I shot which was about three hours of video and crunched it down to this. Since this video...I've been to Gulf Wars three times as a participant. It's my most anticipated event of the year...better than Christmas...Lol. But I do not take a camera. I just want to immerse and let my job as a reporter, fade away. Anyway, thanks for watching.
I pretty much shit my pants when your dog barked
Hey, Eric Adams, I'd say most of these know-it-alls on here, ain't never had a job to go to, where every minute of every day might be their last. Everybody knows how to do a job better than the man doing it.
Lucky? Not the descriptor that comes to my mind first.
was that bobby Brantley from lizard lick towing ?
WHAT A STUPID FUCK!
That is what you get for taking the lazy way. His rigging was chicken shit.
23:38 "HOW'S THAT FEEL?!??! YEA!"
Holy shit............. Lucky...... Lucky that the firefighters didnt have to pick up pieces of his body and hose his blood away. Lucky his family didnt get that knock on the door... As for him, he should have known better NOT to stand there.. Im willing to bet he will never stand between trucks again when the cables are out.
Very interesting vid......thanks for sharing!
