Moving Begonias to Self Watering-Pots.
Soil type you use... I struggle with them,an I LUV LUV LUV THEM... HELP😊
In my experience with self watering pots, if their are roots in the reservoir, you must keep water in it, or those roots will die. I really think it depends on the type of plant you have in self watering. Is it a succulent, a begonia, a hoya, an anthurium. It depends on how much water they want. It also depends on the medium you are using for self watering- soil, pon, or leca? But others may have different opinions 💚
It is hard to kill that plant since it pups a lot, but I made an error and put it in a deep pot because of the long stem. I decided to repot a few weeks ago and didn't realize how shallow the roots were. Moving it into a shallow pot allowed it to start growing again. Very unusual plant. Oh neat, you have pups growing out the side. If you have a water softening system, remember it use salt to soften the water which may not be good for houseplants.
Pileas are now fascinating to me because of that puffing thing 😂 As for the tons of babies, you said you were going to sell some plants at a… farmers market if I remember correctly? So just take them along with you! The ones you don’t sell you could then give away 😊
The puffing thing was new to me too, and now I absolutely love this plant! LOL! I had to cancel the farmers market this year because of Lobo's condition. I don't feel comfortable leaving him home alone, especially between 4-7 PM when he needs his meds on time. I need my husband with me to help during the sale, and unfortunately, I don't have close friends nearby to assist. I considered selling on Etsy, but it seems like a lot of work.
@@mixonplantsncrafts oh, that’s too bad 😕 But family’s more important, of course! There’ll be other events. Have you tried fb marketplace? Or fb groups. Some people also sell through ig, with posts or stories
I had one of these back in 2021 and I unalived it. But I was at a plant swap last Sunday and got a baby! We will see if this one survives!
Best of luck with the new one. My first one didn't do well but the second one grew well. Hope you also get lots of babies. :)
❤❤❤❤🥰
I prefer clear. Specifically because I've kept props for too long and found mosquito larvae in the water 💀 so now I only use clear vessels so I can see the roots and ANYTHING ELSE 😅😅😅
EW, I'll have to check mine. LOL! I'm glad to hear your experience on it. Thanks so much for sharing. :)
Eat your words, or eat your beard 😅😂
I'm determined to try again. LOL!

This was hilarious
The crazy things we do at the house. LOL!
Yes please to a property light meter tour! And how's Lobo?
Light meter tour sounds like a plan. I’ll prep for it. Lobo is doing better. I’m so thankful for that. Hope the worst is behind us now.
@@mixonplantsncrafts 🤞
I purchased a U614 from Steves Leafs. It looks similiar to a bipinnatifolia. I have it in a terrarium with other high humidity begonias. Haven't had it long enough to know if it will survive for long.
I went and looked up yours. That one is pretty as well. Mine seems to be doing better. I hope it continues to grow and thrive.
Aaw, Rachel! 🥰 You’re so sweet for mentioning me! I think your Little Star is going to do amazing in LECA 😊 I would love to see a tour of your property and it would be cool to check what kind of light plants are getting outdoors in different spots. Also, I’d love to see how the blackberry forest is coming along! Sending lots of love ❤️
The Little Star is the cutest. Thanks for the inspiration to move it to LECA. Thanks so much for being here.
@@mixonplantsncrafts Can’t wait for the updates on her 😊
I have the green calathe and burle marx The purple rose and the medallion all so ptetty

Hi! How disappointing for those few plants. I
I know. I’ve had some issues lately. Thanks for watching.
@@mixonplantsncrafts hey, I had a recent unboxing of 4 plants, 2 died within days... 😢
Very nice video on your different maranta prayer plants , I have there’d one , and now I have the lemon /lime one😊
Sorry meant to red one to😊
I love these plants. Thanks for being here. :)
I am enjoying all your wonderful videos. Love love those plants 🪴 🥰
Thank you for being here. ❤️❤️❤️
It’s really creepy, I kinda like it! Maybe one day I’ll get one… I’m holding off until I gain some experience, I’ve seen a lot of experienced planty people struggle with these
Let's see now it does in my care. I'm a bit neglectful. :(
@@mixonplantsncrafts Yes, and then you can give me tips! 😊
I have very little experience on Begonia’s, but the Maculata I have is thriving in ambient air in my kitchen in front of my window. It’s pushing out new growth daily. No direct sunlight, and I never get water on the leaves. I don’t think they’d like a terrarium because the moisture on the leaves. Good luck!
They absolutely hate moisture on their leaves. I do love these Maculata. Thanks for watching.
Sorry your plant arrived dead that is a shame. I don’t understand how that could happen except if they packed it to soon before shipping or shipping was delayed. I’ve never bought from that shop mainly because I typically haven’t bought starter plants. I’ve watched a few other planty channels where the same thing occurred from that store. I hope they do you right and send you additional plants.
Maybe they shipped it right after watering. I have no idea, but we'll see if it comes back. The really melted one is gone.
@@mixonplantsncrafts sounds right. 🙁
I know! 😂
😀😍🤩
🤩
Aaw, she’s like “Mommy, look what I can do!” 🥰
hahah. I popped a new leaf. LOL!
@@mixonplantsncrafts And a pretty on at that! 😊
I’ve never thought of begonias as grandmother plants, I think they’re just very beautiful common houseplants. Maybe because most planty people in my country are grandmothers to begin with 😄 I’ve just recently discovered some young houseplant enthusiasts because of social media
Do you fertilize your begonias? If you do, how often? You collections are mazing!
Yes, I knew I was going to forget sharing something. I use Foliage Pro to fertilize. :) Thanks for watching.
thanks.@@mixonplantsncrafts
When you say one part two part, do you mean a half a cup one cup? I don’t understand the part thing. Thank you for the video.
It's a ratio. Used, say, in a recipe which may read, in part, 'two parts (one ingredient) to one part (another ingredient)'. Each 'part' must be of same amount/weight, so twice as much of 'part 'A' as of part 'B'.
What’s your go-to method for growing begonias?
For now, (the only begonia I have is nothing big or special) mine is in the tiny LECA pebbles, in a pot with drainage, with a reservoir a third of the way up. It seems to be very thirsty but not dramatic. When it needs water, if I touch the leaves, they’re softer than usual but that’s about it
12:22 beautiful!!
I do love that plant
That begonia is very pretty 😍
I know. The foliage is like a flower.
So sorry about your dog and the pest. It is very overwhelming when so much is going on in your life. I tend to put my plants on the back burner in order to handle everything else. I don't like doing that but I am confident that my plants can wait and be ok when I can finally get to them.
Life can get overwhelming. I feel so bad when I have to put my plants on the back burner. I'm looking forward to a reset.
These bugs are so exciting, you should definitely do an update on the results! Thank you for talking about stress and life challenges! I personally am not super busy but I’ve been under some stress in recent weeks. And since my plant collection is still small and manageable, it’s one of the few things I feel I have under control actually 😄 As a consequence, plant are still a stress relief for me! I hope Lobo is doing better, sending lots of love! ❤
The bugs are exciting. LOL! I used to be distracted by plants now it's bugs. LOL! I agree with you, plants help relief stress. It can still be overwhelming sometimes when you have to keep up with pests and watering. Lobo is better, he's needing to remain calm and relaxed. Thanks for asking.
No disrespect, but my goodness ma'am you are stunning! I used to order lady bugs. I made a mistake and put one bag in the freezer when I should have put them in the fridge. Every time I purchased a bag, I knew at least one of them would say so long suckers! and fly away. Lady bugs are not cost effective unless you have an active bug problem, and you have to set the out at sunset or they will all fly away.
Thanks for the info. I do have an active spider mite problem and whatever else. Since I ordered predatory mites I figured I would try ladybugs as well.
Oh hon. I'm sorry you are dealing with all of that. And I hope Lobo is ok! I found thrips on 3 of my anthurium and mealies (still) on my linearis yesterday. UGH. I think I would find time blocking beneficial.
It seem like a long week last week. And you, so sorry to hear about thrips and mealies, on my goodness. How are you treating? I love time blocking. :)
@@mixonplantsncrafts I hosed the plants in the shower and sprayed with alcohol and Captain Jack's. So far so good.
@@natjoy22 Good deal. Hope it worked.
Oh, that is a beautiful anthurium ! I am just now getting into anthuriums. Honestly, I don't know what took me so long.

@@mixonplantsncrafts of course 🤗
Is this your same experience with receiving Begonias in the mail?
Drama? Who’s she? 😄 Such a beautiful picture 🥰
Hahahahah!
Heartbreaking!!
It definitely is
I've been having a lot of luck with my terrarium jars with the lids off. They are on a bookshelf with an LED strip light above. I think having the lid off the jar, but being tucked into onto the mostly enclosed shelf retains a good amount of humidity, but also allows air flow. Good luck! I just did my first online plant order, and it was from them. I'm hoping it arrives in good condition. I'm essentially a far away as you can get from them within the contiguous US. Only 3 starter Hoya linearis and 1 starter Hoya obovata inner variegated. I'm crossing my fingers. Thank you for sharing!
Thank you for watching. I'm do take off my lid from the jar from time to time. I want to make an actual terrarium set up soon. I've ordered from this shop many times before and I just think some begonias just don't travel well. I'll give an update in a few months. :)
Good to know about the humidity. I am growing corms and found out that to much humidity is not a good thing without air. 😅
Hi, I’m interested to see what happens. I’ve recently been using stratum with I think some luck but I’ve never tried Lecca. Wondering if the stratum will sink down to the bottom of your vase so it might not help with root’s until they are well grown?😮
The cutting is doing well. I can see a new leaf coming. I'll share an update on the channel once it's opened. BTW, I love stratum. Thanks for your comment. :)
Oh, sorry about the melted plants, hope you can revive them! I’ve never seen that fern begonia before, must be stunning when it’s in full health 😊 waiting for an update on the condition of all of them 🫶
This begonia seem to be a problem one and now I'm determined to figure it out. LOL! I'll share an update in a few months. Thanks for being here.
It's so unfortunate that you got sad plants from a seller you've had success with in the past. That Tortum though...the leaves are HUGE!
Problem shipping happens and I'm so glad they were able to send a refund. Yes, the Tortum is so big and thick too. :) Thanks for watching.
Oh no , so sorry they didn't arrive well. I know you where excited to get your plants. I find begonias to be hard to ship. I ship out the begonias in dry soil. They also need to be wrapped in cardboard to help protect the leaves. I don't like the sponge stuff either. I hope you where refunded for the melted plants. I am glad you shared this cause I have been thinking about ordering from them.
This is my only hard ship begonia. How do you take off the sponge stuff? I never want to keep it on the plant. I was able to get a refund on 2 of the plants. The shop have always been good about shipping. Thanks for watching.
You did really well❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Why did you add moss at the top?
I added moss as top to increase humidity around the stem, promote root growth and then I get bigger leaves. It's worked well for me so far.
@@mixonplantsncrafts Thank you so much for that!
@@mixonplantsncrafts I used a water bottle. Thanks for this vid.
Lovely selection of Hoyas. I have all mine in terracotta and Pon and they seem happy enough. One of my earliest Hoyas was the Heuschkeliana Variegata (inner variegated) that I still adore and I’d recommend getting, the Bellas and the Polyneuras are lovely too. Happy growing ❤️🪴😊
That is great terracotta worked for you. I does not like me at all. I looked up Heuschkeliana and it's very pretty. I'll have to add that one before the year is completed. I've purchased a few more Hoyas since I made this video. LOL! Thanks for watching.
Hi
