Tying a PMD Split Back Perdigon Fishing Fly
Some of our best sellers are the split back nymphs; both the BWO and PMD versions are fish catchers. Here’s our attempt to put this into a perdigon style fly.
Here is the recipe for the PMD version:
• Hook: Firehole 551, sizes 14-20. www.discountflies.com/product/M-FIRE551.html or Kona Jig Hook www.discountflies.com/product/M-KBJH.html
• Bead: Firehole slotted tungsten, 2.5mm. We like gold. www.discountflies.com/product/M-FIRE25MM.html
• Thread (underbody): SemperFli Nano Silk, 18/0 Olive. www.discountflies.com/product/M-SNS18.html. You could also use Brown for the entire fly so that you do not need to change the thread color for the thorax.
• Tail: CDL or other stiff tail fiber like Brown Pheasant Patch fibers www.discountflies.com/product/M-CCPHP.html
• Body: Raven and Wolf Perdigon Body, Tan. www.discountflies.com/product/M-RWPB.html
• Rib: SEMPERFLI Tying Wire 0.2mm (Fine), Red or Copper. www.discountflies.com/product/M-STWF.html
• Thorax: SemperFli Nano Silk, 18/0 Brown. www.discountflies.com/product/M-SNS18.html.
• Wingcase: Yellow/green SemperFli Fluorobrite (www.discountflies.com/product/M-SFLB.html) or SemperFli Fluorescent Floss (www.discountflies.com/product/M-SFFLOSS.html).

Tying a Rusty Spinner Fishing Fly
zhlédnutí 57Před dnem
Two challenges are often cited when it comes to fishing and tying spinners. First, spinners are difficult to see on the water. Second, spinner bodies are quite slim. This pattern attempts to address both of those challenges. To improve visibility, palmer 2-3 turns of hackle through the thorax and then trim the bottom hackle flush with the thorax. This also works well for tricos. To create a sli...

Later in the season fish can be just as willing to take a hopper as they are in July or August, but a smaller fly just might turn more heads. Green Drakes are big. Fortunately for us, trout key on them heavily during the summer. This makes for some fun fishing, typically in the evenings at dusk. The Green Drake Hatch where we live is a hatch that is marked on many calendars. While fish regularly take big duns, an emerger like a soft hackle fished as a dropper an hour or so before the main event is a good idea. Jeez....I've been tying this fly for 2 years, and just watching you I realized that I'm doing it very slow! Never thought of putting the wire in a bobbin...

    • @discountfliesflyshop1898
      @discountfliesflyshop1898 Před 3 měsíci

      The only trouble we have with the bobbin is if we start with too much wire out of the tip. This causes a lot of turn on the wire at the tip and it can break (just like helicoptering it off when tying other patterns). So, we keep the wire moving through the bobbin.
