Carving the House Targaryen dragon
The Wood carving of the House Targaryen sigil from Game of Thrones. The sigil or coat of arms is carved in oak for the structure of its grains and to create the feeling of a rough meieval somewhat torn object. After the carving was compleated I stained the Wood with two different nuances of black to make the dragon stand out from the background and finaly I applyed some Linseed oil for protection.
The Three-headed dragon that is the sigil of House Targaryen represents Aegon the Conqueror and his two sisters, Rhaenys and Visenya. And it could also be seen as a fitting match that Daenerys (Khaleesi) hatched Three dragons of her own in the ritual fire.

Carving the House Greyjoy coat of arms
zhlédnutí 69KPřed 10 lety
This wall shield is my interpretation of how the wood carved Crest belonging to the House Greyjoy of Pyke would look like. The giant squid turned upside down is a impressive sigil and its shape is pretty cool with all its 10 arms spread out against the background. A suiting animal to their motto: We Do Not Sow (we take what is ours). In Game of Thrones the House Greyjoy of Pyke has a rather rou...
Carving a Lion Head from the Royal warship Vasa
zhlédnutí 80KPřed 10 lety
The carving in this video is a copy of the majestic lionheads on the gun ports of the Swedish royal warship Vasa that was built in 1628 commissioned by the king Gustav II Adolf. The lion head is carved in real size (1:1) and is approximately 50 cm high, it is carved in Lime wood and then placed on a back piece made out of Oak. First I started out by making a half of the head in clay, to get an ...
Making a 16th century style Cassetta frame
zhlédnutí 164KPřed 10 lety
This type of late 16th century frame that we are making in this video has its origin in Siena, Italy. It is a very basic type of a Cassetta frame consisting of a plain backframe with added sight and outer mouldings on the front. The lack of carving is well compensated by the illusion created by the gilding and painted decorations on the mouldings. The frieze was usually decorated with painted d...
Making an oval mirror sconce, part one
zhlédnutí 40KPřed 10 lety
This model with its oak leaf wreath is a replica of a Swedish 18th Century model. The original piece was made by the Swedish mirror maker Niclas Meunier (1730-1797). He started his own mirror factory in 1754 and at 1769 he was awarded the title as The Royal Court Mirror Maker. The frame is made out of pine and joint together in the traditional half and half style and the lower part is for the C...
Making a tabernacle frame: part one, wood working
zhlédnutí 62KPřed 10 lety
This is the first part of the making of a tabernacleframe. Part one is about the woodwork of the frame mainly based on the Wood carving and Wood turning parts. The frame is loosely based on a model from the early seventeenth century in the Italian region Marche (probably). The original is a part of the Robert Lehman Collection at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, item number 1975.1.2091. Although...

Casting and gilding a skull, part one:casting

This video shows how we cast one of the skull models that we produce. We make them in Jesmonite and this version is a hollow skull with articulated lower jaw. After the casting of the skull all the details are engraved by hand to create a realistic and individual object, an object with the highest quality and finish. At the end of the film you will see the skull with a patinated finish but if y...
Renaissance pilasters with entablature

Architecural framing of a niche based on pilasters with base and capital holding a Entablature with Dentil and Egg-and-dart ornaments. The desig is my own but of course it is based on classical elements from the Renaissance period. The whole structure is custom built to suit the rather large niche in a wall section. To see the making of the separate ornamental parts have a look at the following...
Carving a Renaissance style grotesque pattern

This ornament is carved in Lime wood and it is based on the classical Renaissance grotesque pattern. I have taken inspiration both frome patterns carved in stone as well as painted ones from the Italian Renaissance. This specific ornament is to be gilded and then placed on a pilaser as a part of a interior decoration. To see more please visit our website www.stockholmsforgyllning.com
Carving a grotesque mask in wood

Carving a grotesque mask in Lime wood. The design is based on a mask found on the Fountain of the Four Seasons, rue de Grenelle, Paris. My mask is carved from a photo and I had to do some changes to fit its purpose. It has been made somewhat smaler and I also had to flatten it, holding back the thickness since my one was to be placed on the base of a pilaster and I didn´t want it to stick out t...
Wood carving a Crown chair in walnut

A wood carved crown chair in walnut. This is a replica from a crown chair that is a part of the Skokloster castle collection (65 km from Stockholm). It is most likely of english origin and dates back to the 1690s*. It has a hight of 141 cm and it is 81 cm wide, a truely magestic creation. All the carvings are made by hand and also the twisted backpoles are hand carved and not a result of woodtu...
Gilding a console table

A hand made replica of a console table. The original is a Late Gustavian console table from the early 19th century. It has been made by hand with handplaned frameworks, woodturned leggs and hand carved details. What you see in this video is the process of gilding it, the applying of the gold and the metal leafs (a combination that started to be in use in Sweden from about the mid 18th century) ...
Wood carving - Carving a mascaron in wood

Wood carving project in Lime wood. The carving of our company Logo...a mascaron. The design is my own but it has been influenced from the classical italian renaissance mascaron. Originally its function was to frighten evil spirits away so that they would not enter the building on wich it was attached to. As time went it was subsequently adapted in to become "mearly" a decorative element. This p...

Beautiful work. A true artista at work. One question I have ... I try gilding and have some difficulty. Why is it that when the adhessive is applied thoroughly it does not help the gold leaf stick? I use the Mona lisa brand.
