Wow ! I enjoyed it. I will also indicate I own on DVD from 1070 to 1979 series, which includes this particular event. So, thank you. Bye , bye. C/O RDRT.
❤ For those who don't know, this race was special for three reasons: *1.* This was the closest finish in Formula One history - for Top 2, Top 3, Top 4, and Top 5. 1 Peter Gethin (Great Britain) BRM 1:18:12.60 2 Ronnie Peterson (Sweden) March-Ford +0.01 s 3 Francois Cevert (France) Tyrrell-Ford +0.09 s 4 Mike Hailwood (Great Britain) Surtees-Ford +0.18 s 5 Howden Ganley (New Zealand) BRM +0.61 s Then there was a gap of over 31 seconds. *2.* With an average speed of 242.615 km/h (150.754 mph), this race stood as the fastest-ever Formula One race for 32 years, until the 2003 Italian Grand Prix at Monza (Michael Schumacher, Ferrari, 247.585 km/h (153.842 mph), 1:14:19.838 - also the shortest *full-distance* F1 race ever - in 2023, they only did 51 laps because of Yuki Tsunoda's engine failure, so 1:13:41.143 doesn't really count as much). *3.* In qualifying, Chris Amon got pole position (1:22.40) in his Matra by setting the (then) fastest lap of all time at 251.214 km/h (156.097 mph)! Next year, two chicanes were added for safety reasons.
I met Howden Ganley once and asked if he thought at this race he had a chance to win. He said at the beginning he did but by that last lap his brakes were shot and he was just hanging on.
It was a video here, the hole race, same quality, black and white and with a French TV commentator. Damn, can't finde it? Do you guys know where to finde it?
I can not find it either, the whole point of such demanding and exhausting race is completly lost.
Your best bet is to keep checking 'Internet Archives' (as I wouldn't trust any other websites btw). In the meantime don't expect it to appear on YT again thanks to the FIA and/or FOM b*tching about copyright infringements.
@@pellenyberg No problem my fellow motorsports fan/addict... 🏁 I understand your adrenaline and addiction like I have had for over 40yrs now living in this miserable world in the US of how disrespectful this nation has been with our beloved sport. That's a good archived f1 video i ever seen Also anyone noticed that there's an oval in front of the grid however F1 ban them because it was too dangerous to drive
Cevert lost because, as usual, his bottle vanished when he needed it. Terrible camera work as they entered the Parabolica for the last time - focussing idiotically on a car a lap behind and missing Gethin's brilliantly decisive move, holding the inside knowing Cevert would yield by moving just a bit too much to the left, and thereby lose the race.
I was at the end of the strait leading into the parabolica. They were going very fast at that point so I couldn't keep track of any but the leader.I think Pererson was leading the last lap going into the parabolica, but Gethin won.
Heh, I was very close to you, inner part of the parabolica. After the last passage we had no idea of who won. The loudspeaker made incomprehensible noises :) We asked around and everyone had a different answer, most people thought that Peterson won.
Gethin never led a complete lap in any of his 31 F1 World Championship GP races
Monza in the early 70s was just pure speed. Very little breaking! All this won by a Brit called Peter Gethin... just!

The chicane didn't save Ronnie...
@@lazornelin7935 He crashed because of the starter who let the race start incorrectly.

I’d forgotten how wide some tracks were on the straights!
I was at threat race at the bistro section eating a panino and a Brio Chinotto- that was my best recollection!
Ah the good old days before chicanes destroyed Monza
Still one of the most thrilling Grand Prix races ever…if not the greatest!
how much hp? must be colorized
240+ kph with full tanks.
that's what i call close racing
It just shows that F1 is not as competitive as in those days...

Back when F1 cars took air and drifted around corners. Oh and had a special compartment to hold the drivers balls.
No chicanes, no run off at the lesmos, brave men
At the start someone is still, some other is moving and the one who takes the lead was already launched.. such an irregular start
The pilots of this era had balls of pure steel.

Gethin there, Peter!
Ahhh....the Monza Oval. Gotta love those banked corners at 240 mph
This one looks like a home video (in 1971). Is it correct?
Imagine if they Brake JUST EVER so slightly at a Different point going into the Parabolica.... Massive Crash.
These guys were NUTS RUNNING LIKE THIS! And they were Less Nuts than when they had the Banked Track!
