Hi! I'm Erica Ray Limones, certified language coach and Spanish teacher. I'm here to help you finally master the Spanish language with strategies that work and through the power of authentic conversations and stories.
I learned fluent Spanish while still in The States, without studying it in college and long before stepping foot abroad, and I know that you can too! Years later, when I moved to Mexico, the integration process was not nearly as challenging as it would have been if the language had been a hurdle.
I've been working professionally with the Spanish language since 2008 (as a medical interpreter, translator, teacher, and language coach).
Learning Spanish changed my life for the better, both personally and professionally, and I'm here to share this amazing experience I've received with you so that you can change your life too.

So funny, my native language is Spanish and I’m watching this video to catch more information about how retaining more English vocabulary. I’ve been living in the US for many years and still have struggles with English, especially with my speaking.🙁 I was born in Costa Rica and I really love your Spanish. Your accent is amazing and you should definitely be proud of yourself. Your hard work and dedication has paid off.🤩🥳🥰
So nice of you, thank you! 😊 Yes, these tips will absolutely help you with your retention of new English vocabulary! Best wishes!!😃
TOO MUCH ENGLISH SPOKEN
Is this legal, Erica? 😄. What's the secret sauce and how did you get the accent so perfect? I speak French and have been learning Spanish for sometime but speaking is still a struggle. I understood most of what you said but can't speak fluently. Yet. Also, is your accent from Spain or a Latin American country? I notice you don't drop the S and other syllables like all Latin Americans I come across.
😅 Thank you! Also, congratulations on understanding most of the video! Spanish speakers from several different countries do tend to drop off that final s (i.e. Honduras, Cuba, Venezuela etc...). My Spanish has been most influenced by Mexico where, as a general rule, they tend to pronounce all of the letters. I give some specific pronunciation tips in this video: czcams.com/video/CXvvIxkFcTs/video.htmlsi=l-SoDeiTNVMf3Wol I also go into how I developed my pronunciation and help my students to do the same in my workshop: ericaraylanguage.com/90days Hope that helps! Best wishes with your Spanish!😊
Muchas gracias por el video!
De nada!!
HI Erica! As you were explaining what not to do, I envisioned a list of random vocabulary words going up the screen, totally irrelevant to anything I needed to know. 🤣 Another great video! ♥

It is interesting that you say that - without first having an idea about your destination- Whenever I am teaching Spanish, I always ask my students, "What do you expect to learn from this class? Why are you here? What do you expect from this class?"
Love it!
Good point. I did that years ago when i started learning flamenco guitar. I became somewhat fluent in my Spanish regarding conversations about playing flamenco guitar. But i would be lost if someone started talking about a soccer game for example. I would catch a few words but would be lost on the main subject. When that happens i just say Si over and over. You can say yes to just about anything lol
Imagine if that flamenco guitar subject had been just "goal 1" to build your confidence and then you continuously set other relevant goals for yourself, allowing the vocabulary and sentence structure that you learn from one to carry over and help you with the next. ☺️
I found the part of your husband's communication between his English Iraqi boss, fascinating! What a challenge that had to be. I am pretty good with understanding differences in languages and terminologies in other languages but for this man to be a native-tongue-spanish speaker learning to communicate with an Englishman speaking a different kind of english who possibly had an Iraqi accent...how outstanding! To be such a convoluted circumstance and succeed. How Amazing! I'm American who dated an Englishman and though it wasn't hard for me to understand him, many Americans did. I just found this fascinating about your story.
I'm pretty sure you can move to Mexico because it's cheaper to live than it is to live in the United States, but can you find a job as American to maintain a sustainable living?
Many of us work online. ☺️
@@EricaRayLanguage fair enough.
You are a very smart and adaptab young woman
You are very adaptable.....not like so many Americans.
Such a handsome couple!!
Loved your video...very informative. I dont want yo live in touristy area as well as expats. So thanks again. Keep up the good work.
I'm glad you enjoyed it!
This is a great lesson on the use of 'se' and its definitely taught me quite a lot. . I'm just wondering Erica, the sentence, "Eso es lo que se cree por aqui" could it also be written as "Eso es lo que se creen por aqui"? As 'creen' is "they believe", whereas 'cree' means 'you believe', even though both are written in the 3rd person? Thank you :) 🙏
I'm glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for your great question! "Eso es lo que se creen por aquí" is not correct. Here’s why: In Spanish, the verb "creer" in the impersonal construction "se cree" does not agree in number with the subject because "se" constructions are generally impersonal and the verb remains in the third person singular form. "Eso es lo que se cree por aquí" translates to "That's what is believed around here." Here, "se cree" functions impersonally and generally. Using "se creen" would imply that the subject "eso" (that) is plural, which it is not. Thus, the sentence should remain "Eso es lo que se cree por aquí" to be grammatically correct. I hope that helps! 😊
@@EricaRayLanguage Thank you for your clarity and wisdom, Erica. Tenga un buen día!
When I see kids or minors in the thumbnails of your stories and the title doesn't sound "kid-friendly" either, I automatically skip the story!
I really like your story telling, but this time, it is a bit flawed: after all the time in the hospital, nobody searched his wallet and found that small piece of paper with the address? Or did they find it and nobody thought to contact the people there??? Nonetheless, keep it up! ❤
I love the way you broke this down. Because I have really been giving up on my spanish journey! The grammar is just too stressful!
Totally understand but you got this! Keep moving forward! ^_^
I like the format but I sure wish it was slightly slower
thank you so much! This was a great help.
So happy to hear it!
I totally agree with you- Listening/Speaking/Reading and Writing in all 4 areas must occur to acquire the language proficiently.
For sure! The combination makes everything so much more efficient!
Woman. Where have you been all my life??? Notice and accept is a genius idea. Mira, I’ve been getting more intentional with my Spanish as I started in college and that was what two and a half decades ago?? Not fluent yet so I was like ima put my foot down. Don’t get me wrong, I can hold my own for the most part but some struggles are still real. And I saw the phrase today: Lo mejor … the best thing is. I scratched my head trying to make it English and now you come on and say this. THANK YOU! You have beautiful Spanish, lady!! Can you come move in with me and be my full time teacher? Thank yoooou 😂😂👋🏽🤗
Haha! I'm glad we found each other! 🤗 I hope to continue to be of service!
@@EricaRayLanguage yes! I’m joining the weekly Spanish classes next month, so thank you.
Woohoo! You'll love them. We can't wait to have you! 🎉😊
Once again, a great video! Ericas course is great if you want to learn Spanish! I have joined her course and her program is very comprehensive and the groups to practice speaking Spanish are great and very fun. One learns something new everyday from the native Spanish instructors. I am leaving for Mexico and I will be able to speak better than I did the last time I visited. I am planning to rejoin her program when I return to advance my Spanish and eventually be able to go to the intermediate speaking practice group and improve writing skills. The instructors are very patient and make you feel comfortable in continuing your studies. You should give it a try. I did not realize how much the work "practice" meant!! It is very true that practice makes perfect and one has to practice a lot. This program will get you into a routine of consistency that is absolutely necessary to keep moving ahead whether you are having a good or bad day. Practice 5 minutes or 30 minutes a day......but you need to practice everyday to progress. Make it fun for yourself and study what you like to read/do.
Thank you so much for your detailed comment, Sue! We have loved having you in Elevate and Caminos and are looking forward to continuing to work with you! 😊
I’m a complete newbie. I also have a brain injury so find it hard to retain information. I really want to learn Spanish despite this. Where do I start?
Hi! If you're brand new, I would suggest listening to Spanish spoken relatively slowly and then eventually listening and repeating to get used to Spanish sounds and pronunciation.
This is great! What was the name of the flash cards app?
apps.ankiweb.net/ ☺️
Thanks for the suggestions
Absolutely!
Hello Erica! I really need help on my comprehension, what are your tips?
Hi! What's your current learning routine? What do you listen to and how much time do you spend listening to Spanish?
😅 idk if i should repeat material and or takes notes
Maravilloso. Muchísimas gracias.❤
Erica, thank you for these excellent tips! I plan to start utilizing them today.
Awesome, Linda!! 😀
Hi Erica! There are just so many things about this video that I love. It's so perfect from beginning to end! And I especially love how you explain that even though we're preparing for one specific conversation, all of the words carry over to other conversations! So beautifully done! Just a perfect video overall! ♥

Aww thank you! I really appreciate it!
Good lesson planning.
I agree with your views 100%. Both input and output are needed to unlock the fastest progress with language learning. This has definitely been my experience as a native English speaker learning Spanish. Maybe CI is good enough for some advanced language learners like Polyglots, but for the rest of us...Not!
Hola, Erica- Necesito aprender como escribir una novela en espanol e ingles tambien. Que qusiera es mi perrita aprender como usar el papel. Ella esta tan floja con el papel.
I agree with you- simply more words to learn- When I am teaching HS Spanish I have my students focus on one set of the "words" in a certain tense at a time. This helps them to learn in context. Estoy de acuerdo.
Great ideas to pass to my students. Thanks for sharing. When my students first start acquiring the Spanish langauge they are very shy and reluctant to say anthing aloud. I usually tell them to listen to tv, radio and watch themselves in a mirror as they practice Spanish. I like to use all 4 areas- L/S/R/W for my students. Gracias por su ayuda.
¡Excelente! 😀
Usted es excelente profesora.
¡Muchas gracias!
I loved the quiz and the picture questions at the end! This was so comprehensive. Me favorita estación es el verano, por qué me cumpleaños es en julio. Me gusta cuando hace sol. Cuando hace buen tiempo, ando con mi perro.
