Rebuilt Minsk (Motobeno) 125 first startup.
Ground up rebuild/restoration from a basket case. This is a 1995 Minsk 125 which was sold badged as a Motobeno. Complete stripdown and rebuild, new bearings and seal throughout and bored to suit new piston. VAPE charging and ignition system fitted.
It cuts out at the end because it went onto reserve. I only put a single 5 litre can in so it's good to know I have 5 litres once it hits reserve.

Refill camping gas cannisters

Refilling comparatively expensive 100ml camping gas cannisters from cheap butane refills using adapter valve. You can get more in if you cool down the receiving cannister and warm up the donor one but is it worth the extra hassle? Obviously, remember gas is flammable so do this away from naked flames in a well ventilated area.

Some fairly random footage from the Aughertree Trial. I entered on my 350 bullet. This was a poor plan, it was way too much for this bike and its rider. I barely made it round the route, never mind completing sections. I attempted one section but made a real dogs dinner of that. A great learning experience though and I now know where the limit is! I do exactly this but with a much more shonky looking adapter. Sometimes I speed the process by warming the donor canister in a bowl of warm water and also keep a tally of fills on the base of the can in sharpie because the canister seal and fitting is not going to last for ever. I always check them for leaks after filling and an hour or so later on to be sure. I've only had one leak after filling which was discarded. All my traditional shaped gas canisters have come from campsite bins.

    As I got my Bullet in the late seventies from India factory new the detent plunger was screwed in completely and there was no shifting possible. It took me some time and some nerves to find out the cause. So the detent plunger was the very first part (lots of others followed) on which I used a spanner. 😏 Still got her and doing some travel with her.

  • @um3079
    @um3079 Před rokem

    Thank you for your great instruction. This solves a lot of gear shifting problems. One thing I would consider if the lid of the gear box is open is to check and adjust the spring loaded detent plunger (the locked screw on the far right side). Unscrew the plunger and check the blade for wear and the spring mechanism for it's function. A little grease would be helpful. If you screw the detent plunger back into the gearbox make sure the blade is oriented horizontal just to fit precisely into the notches of the inner gear selector. To do so put the gear into neutral and screw the plunger all the way in. Now unscrew it about one and an half turn or more till you could shift easily and the gear does not come off. Remember that the blade of the plunger always has to be in a horizontal position.

    • @twostroke350
      @twostroke350 Před rokem

      Yeah, it's a bit that can be unhelpful, expecially if the spring is worn. I've previously re-profiled the notches on the internal gear selector quadrant on this bike (looks like it was done freehand with an angle grinder at the factory) and re-profiled and re-hardened the detent so it latches into the gears a bit more positively.

    Thanks for that very concise tutorial. One thing that puzzles me? How does the simple dished washer turn and lock the points cam and a/r weights? It is totally mystifying to me? Thanks, I will attack my Bullet 65 with renewed vigour!!

    • @twostroke350
      @twostroke350 Před rokem

      You have to rotate the points cam with your fingers. Then tighten the bolt. When you do this, the edge of the dished washer bears against the cam and locks it in position. Normally the shaft the cam rotates on sits slightly proud of the cam so when you tighten the bolt with a plain washer, it bears against the shaft and leaves the cam free to rotate. The end of the shaft essentially sits inside the dished portion of the washer.

    why is everyone there using trials bikes? A normal dirt bike would be more than enough for this type of terrain.

    • @twostroke350
      @twostroke350 Před rokem

      Remember it is a trial. I wasn't attempting the sections, just trying to get my antiquated and inappropriate bike round the course. The guys on trials bikes did three laps of ten sections. You'd never get a dirt bike through most of those sections without putting a foot down. It's also being held in a fairly environmentally sensitive area, there were inspectors present from the national park authority. The trials bikes, with light weight and mandatory use of trials tyres have a minimal impact on the terrain because after a point they stop digging into the ground and just spin. Even in the really boggy places, the tracks weren't breaking through the grass sward. After a couple of weeks, you'd barely notice anyone had been through there. I've done less technical long distance trials where people entered on enduro bikes on trials tyres and they really struggled. More so than I did on the Bullet.
