Linkbelt 3740 loading pine pulp in WA
zhlédnutí 383Před rokem
Most people don't like loading pulp, but enjoy it when it's as nice of pulp as this. This particular truck did not have functioning scales, and the driver didn't care much, so he always had me load to the top of the cheaters. He told me later this load weighed about 108k lbs.

The top 4 inches of the ground is slime, so one operator is carrying trees to the top of the ridge, and the other is laying them down the valley in the hopes that the skidder could pull them around the bottom of the draw up to the processor. After that evenings rain, the bottom drags had to be shovelled up t...

Even though it is all dead, the state requires 6 leave trees (above 12" dbh) per acre. The wood was felled with a Tigercat 830 buncher, and skid with a '21 Tigercat 630H. The loader behind the camera is a 2013 Linkbelt 210.

      To manage and maintain them so they will be productive and healthy in the future. This area was burnt in a wildfire about a year ago. If it had been properly thinned before then, it wouldn't have been damaged so badly.

    where does red oak go. Paper or saw mill?

    • @GreatLakesLogger
      @GreatLakesLogger Před 3 lety

      If its straight and solid, it goes mostly for railroad ties unless it's high enough grade, then it goes for better lumber. That's for material 11 inches (28 cm) and above. Material from 11 inch down to 8" (20 cm) goes for pallet stock and some low grade lumber I believe. Anything smaller than 8", too crooked, or rotten goes to the paper mill. The paper mill only accepts pulpwood sizes up to 18" (46 cm) so anything rotten that is bigger than that gets cut out and left for wildlife habitat or if there's too much, it gets cut to length and usually gets used as firewood.

    That pine looks like heavy. Is that all go paper wood? No logs?

    • @GreatLakesLogger
      @GreatLakesLogger Před 3 lety

      Yes white pine is generally quite heavy, however these tree were starting to die and had lost some weight. They were still quite heavy to pull around with an H7/C4 combo. From pine we usually (including the wood in this video) cut saw material down to 8" diameter, then pulpwood down to about 4". That obviously depends on whether the stem is still straight and how knotty it is. Right now we are cutting red pine bolts (saw material) down to about 8.5", then if it's straight and clean, we can cut more bolts out down to 6" for another sawmill. At that point, the rest is pulpwood.
