    I tend to use plate a lot. I dont have much sawdust accumulating around the Origin with my Festool dust extractor, but I do get a lot of blow-back on me :( I've been adding painters tape around the top of the dust shield and found that helps quite a bit. eventually I expect I'll fab or print some more satisfying solution

      Taping the finger guard is a nobrainer idea. Wonder why I haven't thought to do that? My CT36 just isn't keeping up with the chips. Perhaps its bit type + cut depth + material, etc etc, but since adding the little blower, I'm not having to manually clear chips and dust away from the cut surface as often

    The laminated page looks like it's not sitting 100% flat. You would want to secure it down anyway or the slightest touch/breeze will move it and ruin your project. So what if you use painter's tape to secure and stretch it flat? The only other issue is: sometimes you cut through the tape as you cut the project. I guess the elmers glue stick option is best for that

      I haphazardly placed double side tape through the middle of the laminated sheets, which left the edges able to be creased if you ran over them with the SO. Like you say, painters tape along the edges and problem solved

    As with any adjustable speed router, the bit diameter and number of cutting edges (flutes) dictates the proper speed setting for the desired feed speed. If the speed is set too high and you feed (move) the router too slowly you get heat and burning. If the speed is set to low, you either have to feed very slowly or you bog down the motor and get poor cut quality.

    I really love all of these solutions and have used many of them myself, including generating a grid and etching it into vinyl with a laser, which was very accurate and incredibly durable. What I want to point out though, Shaper, Does… Not… Care... From the very beginning of testing the initial versions for creating our own fiducial marker solutions, which I was fortunate enough to be involved with, Shaper has NEVER ONCE tried to shut down conversation on the official forums where they were being discussed. That attitude also did not change when they were purchased by the parent company of Festool and Tanos. So I think we all need to pause a moment and appreciate that while they do not officially support their users efforts they have never actively opposed these efforts. I get the allure of click-bait titles, but we all need to be fair to a company that has supported our creativity and never tried to hamper us.

As far as Shaper is concerned, they have reached out to me about certain things I've posted, and have been tremendously supportive. Finding creative solutions to workflow issues is a way for them to learn and develop, but more importantly see that their community loves their product. I frequently purchase from them, knowing full well I could find similar products at a lower price. I love the machine, love the company, and continue to support them with my dollars. Proper speeds and feeds are critical for any machining operation. The thing I find strange about woodworking is this information is not as easy to come by which leads to trial and error along with many subpar results until the proper combination is found. Good job on providing some improved insight but a more rigorous effort on the topic would be helpful.

    I am starting to see how the shaper actually works in conjunction with the shaper tape. Correct me if I am wrong but, I'm guessing you don't have to be super accurate with your visual line tracing. This is the first time I've seen that the body of the shaper moves to compensate for any tracing inaccuracies, therefore producing the crisp lines. I've always seen the on board screen view and the finished product, I never realized the body shimmies and shakes also. I obviously haven't done much research on the shaper and am using your channel to slowly learn for it will be some time before I have the cash to own one of these bad boys.

    • @ShaperSpeak
      @ShaperSpeak Před 4 měsíci

      Precisely (so to speak). There's a circle on the screen that allows you to wander a mm or so away from the actual cut path, and Shaper will then compensate. If you syray too far outside of that circle, then Shaper auto retracts the bit

    Curious when you say the Shaper dust collection isn't that good? What dust extractor are you using? Even with my shop vac (connected with the Shaper brand hose) I never had dust buildup in front of the tool. I would get dust coming back at me a bit under and around the sneeze guard, but never in front. I recently purchased a Festool CT MIDI and I have almost no dust at all. Not trying to be critical. I just am curious what causes dust in front or the tool.

    • @ShaperSpeak
      @ShaperSpeak Před 4 měsíci

      I'm using a CT36 with a separator. My comment about collection is solely based on types of bit + type of material + depth of cut + direction of movement with the machine. That tiny port in the base can't always keep up with the volume of chips from larger diameter bits and deeper cuts. In my experience, unless you're moving the machine very slow to give extraction a chance, the turbulence from the bit spits dust and chips every which way. This past weekend that little blower made a world of difference while I was cutting MDF

      I didn't think of that, but I did have a healthy amount of double side tape on those laminated sheets to keep them as flat as possible. Since using them, I have noticed that if the corners aren't properly taped, you do run the risk of raising a corner and having problems with cuts

      Cheap and easy, just how me like it. Only took me 4 years to figure it out.

      Oh there's more. I've got 2 more things that Shaper should include in their "Gen 3" model.

      Not a 100% guarantee that you'll never buy Shaper tape again, but these laminated strip sure do come in handy when you need them. Since recording this back in November, I don't think I've laid down tape since

    IMO the Shaper tape is one of the best double-sided tapes available. It is also the most expensive. I've tried numerous two-inch tapes from Amazon and had success with pretty much all of them. I've been using The Good Stuff carpet tape. Is it as good as Shaper? No way. However, it is also $17 for 60 yards. So I just use a little more. No problems yet with shifting or adherence. I've also used Hippe Crafter. It's about the same as The Good Stuff IMO. And costs more at $14 for 40 yards. The best tape I found is MISSYOUNG. However, it is one-inch tape and not usable for a lot of Shaper projects.

      Good information. Obviously, I can't test them all, but good to know there are other cost-effective options. I was focusing on tapes that are easily available (minus Shaper) and wouldn't require the added wait times/cost with shipping, but I'll give the tapes you mention a try down the road

      I actually really like the Hippie Crafter tape. It's currently $16 for 90' on Amazon and ships same day to my location (that's $12 cheaper than Shaper's tape).

    If you're using multiple domino sheets, do you need to generate them separately? So they are each different? For instance if you needed four sheets would you generate four different pages?

    • @ShaperSpeak
      @ShaperSpeak Před 6 měsíci

      Each time you generate a page, it is completely randomized. One other trick is simply to rotate the printed sheets 90/180 degree or reorient them to get random configurations.
