1974 Ford 3000 cold start at 33*
First cold start for the ole blue ox! My ford does not have a starting aid like glow plugs or intake heater. This is probably one of the best Diesel engines ford ever made!

    Take 2x4 and cut into a wedge like a door jam. Then put that between the ball joint and clutch houseing. The wood won't damage the nut or threads and spread the pressure over a larger area.

    If you take the 2 bolts out that hold the arm on, it makes the back part a whole lot easier. Loosen the nut just past threads on the tie rod end and tap with a brass hammer.

    Some really good tips thanks for the one on how to use a wrench behind the nut on removing the rear cylinder. I only had enough space to allow for a piece of flat stock . I got it nice and tight and beat it with a hammer later had to use ball joint fork tool to break it loose. Sweet thanks

    I have a ford 2000 with the exact same system … works great turning left but when turning right the steering seems to bind …. However if I throttle up the tractor rpm’s then it will not bind … any ideas why that might be the case ?

    My Dad's Uncle bought Our 3000 Diesel a month or so before I was born in January of 1968. My Dad says that Ours doesn't have the 13mm bolt in the back of the pump like You are talking about. I know it is the original pump, because I know My Dad's Uncle rebuilt it with rubber washers like You put on House Facets with. I don't think if the older models had a different pump or what. I am thinking that it probably came from England because Diesel Tractors were pretty new back then.

    It might Help My Dad and I soon. We Have a 1968 3000 Diesel almost like Yours and it does turn pretty good, but I think something is slightly out of line because it will only turn in one direction and it is like the Tractor nearly tried to run over the front wheel. My Brother-N-Law put a front end loader on it for a while and I don't think He put it back together exactly right.

    Great videos. I had the pistons leaking in my 335 steering cylinders. they are pretty easy to disassemble and repair but you need to weld them back together. I made a video if anyone is interested. czcams.com/video/TWtWZo624Zg/video.html

    I just disassembled one of my steering cylinders. The hardest part was removing the white nylon seal spacer. It was stuck tight and had to pry it out slowly with picks and screwdrivers. It finally came out in two pieces.

    There might be a shaft seal on the engine/drive side of the pump that is leaking, it will leak into crank case. Might want to change that while you are apart.

  • @ferencbrown7090
    @ferencbrown7090 Před 4 lety

    you know that if your tractor has a Simms piston-type injection pump, there is a button on the stop lever if you push that in a cold start situation it will rev your tractor all the way and then back down just so you can start it easier in cold and I'm pretty sure the 3000 had an intake heater.

    i just inherited a Ford 2000. One of the steering cylinders leaks really bad. I ordered a seal kit and will try to replace them like you did. One question i had was regarding the "bleeding" you did in part 4. i'm a little fuzzy about what that means. Is all that is involved is having the reservoir open and turning the wheels really slow?

      Do these type of systems have a pressure relief on the column or the pump? Mine gets hot and hard to steer when the front end has a load on it. I just changed the fluid and did not help. Any info Would be greatly appreciated!

    • @superhogult
      @superhogult Před 6 lety

      Ken Rauch I would lift the front of the tractor up as to get a better idea of what’s causing the binding. If you don’t see any obvious issues then remove the power steering cylinder to you can check the front axle for sticking I’m not sure what it’s called on a farm tractor but on a road tractor they are called the king pins. If no issues are found when the tires are turned left to right then I would suspect the power steering. If that’s the case add one cylinder back and recheck. If you remove the front of both cylinders and let them hang and watch them move while you turn the wheel and see if they match in movement

    I have to replace the power steering pump on a ford 7000 series diesel tractor. Are the bolts to remove the pump behind the filter? Also it looks to run off the cam shaft gear, is the power steering pump gear have to be timed with everything else or not???
