I don't have megalophobia, but the shot in no mans sky of being stood on a moon with a planet taking up half the sky did get to me. Even irl, when the moon is too close it freaks me out a little. Same as in majora's mask, yeah the moon has a 'scary' face, but what gets me is it getting closer and closer

The one game I've never seen anyone talk about in this context is Destiny. And Destiny does megalophobia SO GOOD. I remember my first runs of Crota's End on Destiny 1 on my PS3 and being scared shitless by the size and darkness of it all. And it's not just raids, both games utilize size very much.

Okay but, the fear of animatronics submerged in water is completely logical. It could easily kill you 10x over, imagine an electrical wire breaks, or what ever ride you're on suddenly starts to sink and water comes flooding in. What if you accidentally get too close to one of the machines in water and get stuck, getting both drowned and crushed to death and you can't even scream for help... That's just a handful of examples, but I find it to be a much more logical fear than irrational, as these kinds of things have happened before. Less psychological and philosophical; more the fear of harm that you cannot predict or prevent, that you can't protect yourself from.

I have this phobia and I only just found out it even had a name. What I find strange is I am not a person who has any other phobias or fears for the most part, I wonder what was the trigger to make me feel this way about submerged man made things. I remember being at the peer as a kid and seeing the bottom of a ship underwater creeped me the hell out

I made a liminal space world in micraft once, got pretty big. Sadly I lost it due to my hard were basically killing its self. Same with a few other worlds I lost, I find the Minecraft example for liminality a good one.

I was doing this in the 80s & 90s

I would’ve never thought the house and neighborhood(in a gated community) where my grandparents lived in 13 years ago would become a liminal space as if it my elementary school. I saw it again today since they moved away….unrecognizable(full with homes compared to 13 years old)….. the street and house was definitely disturbing, small, tight to 16 year old. The houses looked small as if I was in 1/2 ratio video game not reality. It felt very uncomfortable and unfamiliar even though it was familiar in some sense.

I love liminal spaces when they're used in horror because you can never tell their intentions. You're perpetually asking the floor, the walls, and the ceiling, "Friend or foe?" But the only response you get is the echo asking the same question to you.
