Lambretta Starstream first run.
zhlédnutí 359Před 6 lety
After 30 years in a Blyth Flower bed, rotting away, and 2 years in my shop. This Starstream is back on the road. Fires up 1st kick and is quick for a 125cc. The heavy smoke is the old exhaust starting to burn off the built up carbon. I had just run it down the alley and back to give it its first test.

1/8 mile run at irwindale Lambretta

Hit 69.1mph on my Lambretta RB20. Not horrible but far from what it should be doing. Was having ignition and carburetor problems but have since sorted those out. Too bad the track is closing at the end of the year.

The AM tower is probably off. It would be WAY too dangerous to climb it when on as the entire tower is used as an antenna.
The towers get the power turned way down but not off. You have to kind of jump on and off the tower so as to not get zapped.
@@Onthelambretta Ok
can I order this tool in europe?
Yes, we just talked. Shipping is about the same price as the tool though.
What size is that puller michael.
It opens up to about 2” Part of this set. www.harborfreight.com/slide-hammer-and-bearing-puller-set-5-piece-62601.html the better method is to use heat and a drift. Slowly work it around the inside edge to walk it out of the tube. This puller works but it’s a hard way to do it.
So there are 2 roads going up to the campground? I would be coming from Tehachapi. I saw the turn off for the campground by havila, is this that same road?
Yes, that’s the same Breckinridge road. It drops down near Havila. This camp ground is off the dirt road at the very top of the mtn. There’s s couple of campgrounds along the main road.
@@Onthelambretta ok thanks, do you happen to know what the condition of the road is now? Any blockages or wash outs? I’ll be scouting it today or next weekend.
@@chrismedina9571 it’s clear all the way to the top from both directions.
@@Onthelambretta thank you so much for the info!
@@Onthelambretta one more question, could I make it in a 2wd sequoia or should I take my 4x4?
I will be heading out that way. Is it a scary drive? Lol
The road isn’t maintained very well. 4x4 is recommended. There are some deep ruts that can high center a car pretty easily. I was just up there yesterday.
@@Onthelambretta I read that the road is very narrow and steep, is that correct?
@@rockNrolla661 Breckinridge road has some single lane spots and drop offs but go slow and hug the mountain you’ll be fine.
Still some snow and a lot of mud right now.
My first Lammy. Loved it.
Looks like the old KEROTV transmitter. I made many trips up that road to the Transmitter in 1955/56. Took a lot of pictures of it inside and outside. It was nice experiencing that road again. If thats your office who do you work for? Thanks
Those would be great to see. I work for KBAK and that's my site, it's just to the east of the current KERO site.
@@Onthelambretta I can send a couple. How do I do that?
@@donayer1449 I messaged you through Facebook, hope I got the correct Don!
@@Onthelambretta Is there snow at the transmitter site right now? Is it muddy up there?
I saw a baseball field on the left and what sounded like people cheering. But I didn’t hear and cows or chickens.
Yeah that cell phone didn’t pick up the chickens very well. Much better in person.
Are there rabbits around Breckenridge?
Mostly squirrels and deer at the top of the mountain. The rabbits are much lower around 3000'
@@Onthelambretta I appreciate the info. Any rabbit areas you know about would be great. Taking my son out next month.
Cool Video! I took 28S62 off of Breckenridge road one time to get up there, and it was a lot bumpier than I expected. Does this route go through the campground?
You drive right by the campground. If you go over the top you can hit deer spring road and there is another campground that has a great view of the valley to the west and the mountains to the east.
@@Onthelambretta I'm guessing you normally drive up there from the walker basin?
@@AmericanZ28 We come up from the Bakersfield side on Breckenridge road. BR goes over the top to Havlia and from there you can go to Lake Isabella or HWY 58.
Waaaoooo..
too bad the image is blury
What do you expect from a Galaxy S1? That phone made a lousy camera.
Hi. Thanks for this tutorial. I have a problem with my scooters crank (aermacchi h-d brezza) The flywheel nut cam off (bad threads), and the flywheel spun of an the crank leaving deep marks. I have ground down the high spots, but would like the mating surfaces to be as good as they can get, so I will try to lap them together as you demonstrate here. My question is: Why only turn in one direction when you are lapping? When you lap in engine valves it looks like it's done in both directions. thanks and cheers form Denmark.
Sorry for the late reply, I didn't realize there was comment waiting on me. I talked to my old timer machinist about that and here's what he said. By going in one direction it makes it makes for a more uniform grind on the taper as all the pressure is basically going to same way. If you go back and forth you can create an uneven grind on the taper due to the way the hand holds the flywheel. I guess if you were to do this with a machine it would be more even in the end. I'm sure any variations in the surface would be minimal if you went back and forth but why mess with success?
Any bears in the area going up next weekend?
I haven't seen a bear up there in years. Still be careful. They do move between areas a lot.
My commute is suburban :(. My escape is places like that!
I love the vibe of the area. Jeffrey Pines and White Firs getting quite sizable! I love the Angeles closer to my home, but sometimes I like to go to other places to branch out. Kern County sure has some awesome places. I want to hike to Breckenridge's summit!
Hey are the gnats really bad up there? I drove there June and it was pretty brutal
Depends where you are up there. By my gate they were everywhere. 15' up the road they were gone. Bring bug spray!
How much does it weigh?
Sy Bernot the internet doesn’t weigh anything...
Good Job, Stay Safe!
Where can I order this tool?
I sell them through scooter-speed.com , think they are $35 from him. Let me know what you think.
Currently it has a TM 34MM Mikuni Round slide. I'm changing it for a TMX 35 this winter. The TM carb just dosen'r respond the way I want it to.
What carb are you using?
Thanks for the feedback. Those races can be really tough to remove the first time. I'm glad it worked for you. One of these days I'll shoot some better ones.
This worked flawlessly-many thanks for posting!!!
how to make this internet box please upload a video
Tapan Talukdar It is a 12v alarm battery and a flashing light. I added a switch to turn it off and a power plug to recharge the battery. All the parts were recycled out of junk equipment. There isn't anything internally that would be worth shooting a video of.
step 1 - get yourself a brain ....
I'll soon be starting a 1959 Li150 resto . It hit a tree 50yr ago and the fork bent ; wheel up against the engine . Anticipate cutting and rewelding the fork pipe proper . I need the wheelbase measurement to reweld in the proper place . Also , you got any ideas to improve the bearingtype ? thx Dave facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.381693911955549.1073741839.199921090132833
Dave Blitnikoff Wow! that is a dirty bike but the good news is it looks like it's all there.Frame measurements are all covered in Stickys book but if you are going to cut the fork tube off I'd find a shop with a proper frame jig. The majority of the time just the fork will bend and they can be straightened out pretty easily.I know Jet200 has a frame and fork jig and they can sort it out quick enough. Some race tricks for improving the fork bearings is to remove the cage and run them loose. You'll need two sets to fill in all the space gained from loosing the cages. I've looked in to putting a more modern tapper bearing in the forks but it would require a new type of frame race at least.
Onthelambretta Is "JET200" anywhere near NY ? Couldnt find his contact info... " Jet200 has a frame and fork jig and they can sort it out quick enough. " thx DT
I would love to climb a 1700 or even 2000 foot tall radio tower!
Right! I`ll be dropping in the hardware store for some bearing pullers this evening. Great tip. Fingers crossed.
Nothing that tall here. I'd do it if the money was right though.
try one of the 2500 foot towers
"this Carl, is the Internet" IT crowd season 3 EP 4
What is it?
It contains the internet, obviously.
Awwww soooooooo cuuuuuuute
very true on both accounts. I imagine that the view is great too!
Planned obsolescence. For me its a quick couple of bucks and a good work out!
THIS is an argument for light bulb technology where they last for 20 years!!!!
Boomstick exhaust from piston ported and a 26 dellorto. Other than that all stock. Loads of fun and fast for a SIL
Dope Racing Stripes! Is the engine stock? what pipe?
If it is AM I hope the transmitter if OFF! It is really not a good idea to jump on and off of a hot tower to work on it but I know it used to be done.
wb5oxq In an AM broadcast tower, the WHOLE tower IS the antenna! I hope it's not KFBK. They use a Franklin antenna- a vertical dipole fed at or near the center. Halfway up the climb, he would be a hot dog in a 50kW hotdog cooker!
I believe they are "guy wires," not "guide wires." No big deal, just in the interest of accuracy. In any event, you would never find me up there!!!!!!
Actually they don't move around too much. There are guide wires on each leg and every 20' or so. Once you get to the top it moves a few inches. Nothing wrong with some safety rules to let you live to work another day but I agree they can be a lot to deal with sometimes.
those towers must really move side to side on a windy day , and in WINTER , I know someone has got to do it , you guys are alright in my book , I do elevator construction , to many safety rules now , its ALMOST UNSAFE..........
I have to do it too, and because of that my arms get fatigued easily. Did you have to take a few brakes? Some times coming down I am so exhausted that I just wrap my arms around the bars to hold on. Ugg. I found that dropping my arm and shaking it helps.
Had to re-modify the intake manifold so it would clear the motor mount correctly with the Mikuni. It was also ended up running a 260 main so that was way off (normal should be 185-195. Going to start over on the jetting this week. The JL3 is a great pipe for this top end.
hows it running now ..ive just got me a gt kit an mite use a jl3 instead of a clubman
Thanks
Too cold for me. I've been around towers covered in ice (that likes to fall off!), no thank you.
I love this job, usually. Now I'm in Northern BC, Canada. The towers here are getting covered in ice and snow. I hate working in wet snow and blizzard conditions when we're hundereds of feet up.
I love to rock climb and mountianeer. I only wish I could get a job climbing towers like you. That would be the best job ever.
thewhistler you ever get a job climbing?
