Cricket 40/Cric-Key Combo - Minimalist QRPp Demo
zhlédnutí 985Před 2 lety
Here's a one (1) watt QSO between NY and OH using a $32.50 transceiver and a 63' wire on 40 meters. It doesn't take a lot of money to have a lot of fun.
NM0S Cric Key =Iambic Keyer
zhlédnutí 456Před 2 lety
A simply designed, bare-bones, basic iambic keyer kit designed by David Cripe NM0S for 4SQRP. Cost is $25 ($32.50 shipped to U.S.). Meant to complement his Cricket Series of low cost QRP transceivers, it will work equally well with other transceivers.

An 80 meter QSO with a 60 foot wire attached to the "HOA Buster" 5:1 transformer put me solidly on 80 meter CW for the first time in 20 years from my very small outside space available for antennas. Wireman Type 534 "Silky" is used. Wire goes up 30 feet to top of a Maple and then back down to about 12 feet above ground in "inverted vee fashion." RBN gives pretty darn good SNR reports. SL170IN - Single Lever, Inline Bug
zhlédnutí 1,4KPřed 3 lety
Newest offering from KN4YB is a single lever, nickel plated bug with an adjustable flat spring tensioner that helps to produce clean dits. This bug uses a large bearing, has fewer parts than (for example, a Vibroplex), and is easy to adjust over a wide speed range.
KN4YB SW 75 Cootie
zhlédnutí 13KPřed 4 lety
This video is a review of the new KN4YB SW-75 Cootie (Sideswiper). This key includes a shorting bar which permits its use as a single lever paddle in addition to operating as a traditional sideswiper. The key is well constructed, built on a 3/4 inch thick steel base with 3" x 3.5" dimensions and comes with adjusting wrenches. Cost is $75 US as of 6/2020.

KD1JV Deluxe Tenna Dipper

Here's a $45 alternative to an more expensive analyzer when all you really need to do is determine at what frequency your antenna is resonant. It's easy to use, highly accurate, and represent good bang for the buck.
Bug De-Scratcher/De-Bouncer
zhlédnutí 294Před 4 lety
For $12 and a couple of hours, you can build a solution to scratchy dits and dahs caused by contact bounce from your semi-automatic ("bug") or straight keys. It's not an alternative to proper adjustment and maintenance but it does provide an insurance policy against changes due to temperature, humidity, post position shifts and contact impurities between regular cleanings.
KN4YB SL85 KEY REVIEW
zhlédnutí 4,2KPřed 4 lety
This is a review of an "elegantly simple" paddle/sideswiper/straight key/bug (via emulation) that fits in the palm of my hand and only costs $85.00. It's a rather unique design that demonstrates how economy of parts can still produce a handsome and effective Morse instrument.

The PFR-3B has been around for awhile. It's still in production today! The PFR-3B is the "original portable field radio" which means it has onboard batteries, and onboard antenna tuner and an attached key. The only other things the operator needs to pack are earbuds and some wire. The PFR-3B is a kit. The operator is assured that at 12 volts, the output on all three bands -40, 30 and 20 meters ...
Waterslide Decals for Amateur Radio Projects

Junque Box Speaker/Amplifier Use What Ya Got!
zhlédnutí 138Před 4 lety
Many QRP radios do not have an internal speaker. When you go "out into the field" - and attract the attention of interested onlookers - they can't hear the other end of the conversation unless you share your earbuds and that's a nasty thought! Commercially available speaker/amplifiers are often quite large and they usually cost a pretty penny. I built this in no time flat using junk box parts, ...

Stan, I think the addition of a compass might be beneficial, as since RF will travel along the tape measure counterpoise, you could more easily change the counterpoise to favor a particular direction ! Just a thought ! Too, an umbrella for shade might be another useful addition, as it doesn't take long to heat up sitting in the Sun ! Thanks for sharing ! 👍😉

Nice job. The Boxer, like other Essex class carriers had supporting beams on the bow to help stabilize the flight deck. The open area was a little longer than the flight deck and was an interesting place to be during flight ops. In early 1967 we rode out a hurricane in the Caribbean and the beams were bent causing a trip to the Boston Navy Yard for repairs. Upon completion of the yard work and a shakedown trip to Guantanamo, we took the 101 Air Mobile Army group to Da Nang - both the hanger deck and the flight deck were packed with helicopters for the journey. The Army also brought a mascot, a mule, and it was transported in a stable fitted onto the fantail. During one night a group of enterprising sailors produced a branding iron and planted a large "USN" on the mascot's flank. Nobody claimed credit for the act, but I know who did it.

Purchased one of these keys when they first became available they're okay the first thing I did was remount the key on a larger piece of metal for the base. The key is way too light for my liking having to hold the key with two hands while operating sorta sucks. Dot to dash is funky I never could get a 100% smooth dot-to-dash transition it's hard to explain it just felt awkward. Maybe my hand coordination is ingrained to use a Vibroplex and I just need to retrain my hand coordination. Anyway, the key is well built just not my cup of tea mine sits on the shelf and hardly ever gets used.

It's beautiful. I wonder how close it is to the Mecograph in construction. You might recall that vibroplex essentially had to buy Mecograph. I am especially interested in a right angle key that approximates the Mecograph, as inventor William O. Coffe was based in Cleveland, Ohio. 73 DE W8LV BILL😂

The smaller HC-49S is worse, the larger HC- 49U is much better, up to about 10 watts, the S is often used in restuffing and should be used at no more than 1 watt or 2 , the Smaller S would be fine for Qrpp and that crystal is often used in the Pixie , I have used the larger HC-49U crystal it will fit inside a FT 243 case but you have to mount it differently to squeeze it in. with my 6AQ5 transmitter with about 4 watts out and tone was fine, but agree nothing beats the original FT-243 crystals Love your videos Stan keep them coming 73 J
