Vedic v Classical Sanskrit: What's the Difference?
This video discusses the differences between Vedic and Classical Sanskrit. Classical Sanskrit is the language used in the composition of Indian literary works such as the Ramayana and the Mahabharata. It is characterized by strict grammatical rules and guidelines, while Vedic Sanskrit has a more fluid and flexible grammar with fewer rules. The video explains that Vedic Sanskrit was used for a long time until Panini outlined the rules of Sanskrit and its phonology in his Ashtadhyayi, which led to the emergence of Classical Sanskrit.
The video explains Sandhi, which is when the pronunciation of a word changes when it is combined with another word. In Vedic Sanskrit, there were two main categories of Sandhi: Internal and External. Internal Sandhis occurred when certain sounds changed in a word itself, while External Sandhis occurred between words as they come together to form a sentence. There is an interesting category of External Sandhi called Visargas, which occur at the end of a word or a phrase and affects the initial sound of the following word.
The video also covers the different types of Sandhis, such as Consonant and Vowel Sandhis. It highlights the changes in the phonology of Vedic and Classical Sanskrit, with Vedic Sanskrit having many sounds that were omitted in Classical Sanskrit. The video explains that some of the sounds in Vedic Sanskrit were replaced in Classical Sanskrit, and the vowels ai and au in Vedic Sanskrit became shortened diphthongs in Classical Sanskrit.

This video explores the history and evolution of Sanskrit and Prakrit languages in India. Sanskrit was the language of the elite in ancient India and was used mainly for religious and literary purposes. As it expanded, local vernacular dialects emerged and evolved into new languages called Prakrit languages. Prakrits were simpler and more accessible, and they were widely spoken across the India...

Hinduism is older, pashupati seal was found in harrapan. And each state calls same god with different names, doesn't make that god different. In hinduism, rituals depend on yout geography not on a holy book like abrahmic religions Sanamahi is part of sanatan dharma, just like hinduism, budhism, jainism, sikhism Btw your channel is all about commentry on indian history, many are wrong info, but question is why have you put on "comment off" ??

I think examples could be better (longer?) and maybe from Sanskrit origin instead of from English or in addition to English. I still feel like I have not really grasped the difference at all. And also maybe a actual side by side sentence comparison that shows these differences (both for grammer and pronunciation). But still a good video, its always good to hear about how launguages evolve

This is why the western indology is in shambles and they spread fake propaganda in the name of research. The mittani and they Tocharians have very common development of language which the scholars have failed to explain, BMAC doesn't give anything to prove its I-E origins, and the close proximity of Greek branch, lithunian branch and Indo Iranian branch can not be explained by present AMT model.

Well explained! Average people when talk about Indo Aryan invasion or migration, people always generalize them as Proto-Indo-Europeans coming from Russia. Also emphasizing that the language and culture of modern North India is foreign. But if anything, Vedic civilization itself was a mix of Indo Aryan, Indus Valley and other native people of Indian subcontinent. Sure Pre-Vedic people may be from somewhere in Central Asia, but Vedic people's homeland was without a doubt Indian subcontinent. And those so called Proto Indo Iranians wouldn't have recognized people living in Pontic steppes in 2000 BCE or so. People just forget the difference of more than a millenia (3000 BCE - 1500 BCE) between the birth of PIE and the birth of Vedic India. And PIE itself would have been an formed by mixing of people which we don't know about. In short, Vedic civilization is Indian and the soul of India. Its a mix of Indo Aryans, Indus Valley and other native population of Indian subcontinent. It's no way foreign!

Everyone is fighting which one is older but I don't see much curiosity of wanting to know something new. In my experience most of the hindus in Manipur are not that strict nowadays. They already started participating sajibu cheiraoba on the first day of sajibu (Meitei new year) instead of waiting for the other day even though they followed Hinduism. I am Meitei I may not know a lot about my religion but all have is respect to this religion. I respect other religion and their Gods. And I am a curious person so instead of fighting over who being oldest lets learn something new from these beautiful Religions, what i learned from these Religions is that the size of our grave is similar and we died at the end of the day. Thank you everyone.

Ah, someone finally mentioned about Saraswati River. It's such an interesting topic to me like similar to Ganga Yamuna Valley or Mesopotamia which is bordered by Euphrates and Tigris. Indus Valley was most probably once too much more fertile region due to being between two major rivers Indus and Saraswati. It would be intriguing to figure out where exactly it used to flow.

Very nice video. Concerning the sandhi, "sympathy" is not a good example for English, since it comes from Greek, where "sýn" (the ypsilon was pronounced like the german ü in the classical athenian pronunciation) or "sún" (archaic pronunciation) means "with", and "páthos" (the th was an aspirated t in Ancient Greek, and later became the voiceless dental fricative) means "passion" (see also "pathētikē phōnē" - stressed in the final syllables- which means "passive voice). "An apple" is also not the best example, since "an" is the original form, so "a tree", for example, would be more appropriate. Now, concerning the diphthongs, "ai" has turned into e in Greek as well, although into the more open /ε/ sound, starting in the two centuries after the death of Alexander the Great. A similar change had happened in Boeotian Greek since the early 4th century BC, but, unlike Attic Greek, it was /ε:/, not /ε/.

Wow, thanks for your feedback on Sandhi. I am aware of the similar sound changes in Greek as well, it seems almost as if most diphthongs monophtongize at some point in their later evolution. Cheers!
