DIY Scrap Bin
zhlédnutí 66Před 3 lety
I designed and built a great scrap bin a little while back. It's got a number of compartments which are perfect the types of scrap pieces have. I've been able to put everything into a good sized compartment, and put the whole thing on casters for easily moving everything around.
Ribbon Table
zhlédnutí 80Před 4 lety
I finally built the side table I'd designed to go between my bed and reading chair. I call it the "Ribbon Table" because the design features one, continuous band of wood that folds back on itself. It's specifically designed for the 2 different heights of my bed and reading chair. I brought out the "ribbon" idea as much as possible by emphasizing the striated edge of plywood, by mitering the edg...
DIY X-Bench
zhlédnutí 101Před 4 lety
Here's a bench I designed originally as a chair, but I like the "full length" proportions better. It was my first time incorporating metal into a project. The most tedious part, that wasn't fully captured, was sanding off the paint from the wood. I guess that's one of the dangers of reusing wood. Also, I learned how unreliable Ikea's cushion supply is.
DIY Workbench
zhlédnutí 200Před 5 lety
I designed this workbench to be narrow enough to fit through the double doors so I could easily move my projects between inside and out. It's simple, solid, and wonderfully functional. The casters on the bottom lift up when not in use so that the table is securely planted. All my tools can fit on the lower shelf, which is set high enough that it won't hit the curb of the doorway. The top surfac...
DIY Reading Chair
zhlédnutí 2,1KPřed 5 lety
A simple reading chair that I built in 3 days out of 2x4s. I used a domino joiner for all the joints, which was really tricky to line up and sequence. I didn't quite capture the staining and sealing process, but you get the gist..
DIY Kitchen Shelves
zhlédnutí 603Před 6 lety
I made some new shelves for my kitchen storage area! As you will no doubt observe, these hold the essentials: Booze, Internet, Microwave. They could also (in theory) could be easily repeated to extend the shelf along an otherwise very long wall. I might need to reinforce the liquor shelf though... Music: "Rhythm Changes" by John Deley and the 41 Players.
DIY Bench
zhlédnutí 166Před 6 lety
Something about this design reminds me of the "Down Dog" yoga pose, so that's what I'm calling it. The tricky part of was making sure the joint is strong enough that the legs won't pry off when someone sits on the bench. Once again, I turned to the Festool domino joiner to solve this problem, but I overdid it with the joiner making the final assembly incredibly difficult. Airport Lounge - Disco...
DIY Lamp Shades
zhlédnutí 129KPřed 7 lety
For more see www.nikinnaird.com I kept the design of the shades dead simple so I could spend most of my time focusing on the details of construction. I also tested every step of the process individually before starting on the lamps themselves. If any detail wasn't going to work out, I wanted the flexibility to adapt the whole design if needed. I'll post separately about this "R&D" phase of the ...
DIY Bitters Kit
zhlédnutí 2,2KPřed 7 lety
One of the most science-y ingredients to appear in cocktails are bitters, a (formerly) mysterious and potent liquid to be added in a carefully measured number drops. When I was gifted a DIY bitters kit, I learned how simple and straightforward it is to make your own bitters at home! Here’s a video I made showing the whole process from opening the box to taking the first sip. The song is ironica...

Does anyone know the origin of the ‘chairs, stairs and public squares’ quote, I think it might have been Phillip Johnson?

Nik Kinnaird Thank you so much for the quick reply I’ll try and look into is, is the paper kind of like a board? I tried and researched a bit and apparently it suggests that we can use adhesive styrene as well. :)

It would be EXTREMELY MORE USEFUL IF YOU COULD PLEASE LIST YOUR ITEMS In CORRECT EXACT SIZE/NAME /AND TYPE OF PVC, WIRE GAUGE AND TIPS HOW YOU DID THE DRILL -WOUND WIRE TRICK -ALSO THE MATERIAL YOU USED FOR THE SHADE- just saying it was paper is useless information as it would have to be extremely opaque, strong and rigid - giving us links or exact store referrals is what we need to know in order to copy you/ your ideas and intuitive way you used the items is great but please do a new video with better precise directions and items- just think how many MORE VIEWS YOU WOULD GET!
