This video used footage from two shows; I was at the show at the LA Forum which was one of the two shows. This was the first song of the set, and with the big screen behind them, lights, sound, their stage moves; it was sensory overload and it was partway through the song before my brain could catch up. Fantastic show. Try Akatsuki, Rondo of Nightmare, or Headbanger. I too prefer the heavier stuff but I think they're breaking me over time

Ok, looks like you are headed down the rabbit hole. Subscribing. My suggestion as you get sucked into the vortex of Japanese metal is to forget about genre--it's just not relevant, you are in another universe. Japanese metal is on an incredible roll, especially the women, who are kicking ass on an epic scale. Another great band you should check out, is Bridear. Founded in 2011, they were in the second wave of all-female heavy-metal bands. They have the classic twin-lead attack and technical rhythm section. They have gone through some changes but have always kept their hard, heavy, technical sound. Their tiny bassist even does death growls! They just released their new album on June 28 (Japan time), and it’s a banger. BURRN is calling it a masterpiece. The Metal Hammer review compares them to Lovebites (an apex band which you are going to get to soon, I guarantee you!) They have posted two video singles from the album: “Still Burning” czcams.com/video/v7UOTBAtJh0/video.html and “Cult” czcams.com/video/ohFf1pwwoz0/video.html

⚡ 💕 / 💃 This is BABYMETAL's tribute to Japanese Dance music of the '90s. The "Whoa!" in the background is a famous sample used in many '90s dance hits. The guest guitarist on the studio version of this song is Tak Matsumoto. He's best known for the group B'z. They're the best selling artists ever in Japan, and one of the best selling worldwide. It was quite a score getting him for the 'Metal Galaxy' album, but as Su has mentioned in interviews, they were able to get all of their first choices as guest artists. Matsumoto was very influential in Japanese Dance music from the '90s, so I think he was a great choice for this track. Moa's lyrics in her rap section are direct references to dance songs of that era. She's literally listing song titles from that era. I was there for the world premiere of this song at the LA Forum on October 11th, 2019. About half the footage in this music video was from that show.

Hanabie (pronounced HAHN-a-bi-ǝ) This is what you get when Babymetal and Maximum the Hormone have a love child. They actually started in high school, playing MTH covers. In their short existence, they have already published three albums and toured Europe and North America more than once. Clearly one of THE new metal bands to watch. Most of their songs are quite pointed, concerning social issues like dating app abuse, sexual harassment, drugs, human trafficking, cheating etc. “We Love Sweets” is about having an unhealthy relationship to sugar. Members: Vocalist (Harsh, rap)- Yukina Guitarist and Clean vocals - Matsuri Bassist and backing vocals - Hettsu Drums - Chika (replaced Sae in 2023) (Their producer, Gaku Taura, is also the drummer for Crystal Lake. He sat in on drums for Hanabie when they were between full-time drummers.) What about discovering something different? Lord of the Lost Lord of the Lost are a German „genre fluid“ band. Dark rock meets goth meets glam metal meets synths including a perfect mixture of clean and harsh vocals down to growls. They are a rabbit hole to discover with a huge range within their music including three songs with classic instrumentation (The Song), synth driven songs or pure metal heaviness. Their singer Chris Harms changes between beautiful clear, dark singing and grunts&growls. They have supported Iron Maiden as“Special Guest“ twice across Europe in 2022 and 2023! A suggestion to get more into their music is „Under the sun“: czcams.com/video/O9t8ViSAr70/video.html Or what about „The Gospel of Judas“: czcams.com/video/iUCbQ1rKOUg/video.html My third suggestion is „Priest“ czcams.com/video/xL3pC-_p4Bk/video.html I just love this band and the boys themselves. They are so cool, crazy, kind and friendly. I did shoot them several times as concert photographer including backstage documentaries. Great musicians and great people. Some more suggestions out of so many great songs: "Raining Stars": Beautiful synth driven „Full Metal Whore“: Heavy, Heavier, … „A Splintered Mind“: Acoustic version incl. classic instrumentation „Loreley“: Their most popular song "Ruins": Heavy

So, while everyone else sends you further down the Foxhole, with fantastic reason, I'll recommend my favourite Japanese band, Dir En Grey. They've been around with the same members since '97, and all of them bar one were in ANOTHER band back to about '95? They're another band who are impossible to nail down to a single genre. Prog Rock/Metal is probably closest but also utterly incorrect. They are performers as much as BABYMETAL. Though, it might be more accurate to say the lead singer, Kyo is. I think the only best choice to start with to give an idea is Vinushka. The top results for the song on CZcams are live. Watch those because Kyo's vocals are.. fucking insane. His range is ABSURD.

Great reaction. This video is a mixture of footage from their concerts at the Forum in LA in October 2019 (octagonal stage) and Osaka Jo Hall in Japan in November 2019 (big triangular stage) and, as you thought, it had the studio audio dubbed on top of the live footage. The rap (Madonna Vogue?) part was Moametal. Guest feature on this track was, as you know, Tak Matsumoto. He is the founder and guitarist with Japan's biggest ever (by a very long way apparently) selling band B'z and getting him to collaborate was a really big deal for them - of course he provided the guitar solo.🎸 As you are finding, each song is different to the last ... I'm not a fan of dance music like this by any stretch of the imagination (it was impossible to avoid when I was in my late teens, much as I tried) but somehow they make it so much better and, while it will never be my favourite BABYMETAL song, I can enjoy it (and my younger self wouldn't have thought that could ever happen).

iine is a headache, because there is always a very good chance it gets blocked altogether, or at best blocked to people in Japan because YT seems to misidentify them as some old concerts that is completely blocked since iine basically uses the same synth across the board. If you remember acts like: 2 Unlimited who make electronic Eurobeat music in the 90s or something, at the time this music also came to Japan and some groups in Japan tried to make similar music and Tak Matsumoto was the one who made guitar music for such groups in Japan.

Welcome back to the Foxhole. First of all, happy birthday MoaMetal, our angel of love.🥳🎉🎂🐨 You can see BM tried to make a disco metal (?) song even years before RATATATA, although this one didn't hit so much among fans. At least they still show they weren't here doing the same thing and always bringing something different to enjoy. There's a short song intro which is played prior to this song usually at live concerts and is also part of the Light Side of the Metal Galaxy album called "Future Metal". This song marks the route of the entire 3rd BabyMetal album, you can notice BabyMetal grew up a lot. Tak Matsumoto (B'z guitarist and founder) is the special guest guitar on the album version, he's doing the short guitar solo section. Song is inspired in Juliana's Tokyo 90's movement and sound, more like a mix of Hi-NRG, eurobeat and Jpop, rather than edm or rave, Tak Matsumoto was one of the first introducing guitar elements back then in these types of songs. Of course SuMetal and the girls aren't afraid to try something new and they did it like a boss, or more like a queen and princess. In this case you're watching an official live compilation, but no live sound (instead they're using the usual studio album sound) from two live shows in 2019, LA Forum and Metal Galaxy World Tour in Japan 2019, and one of the avenger is Riho Sayashi, she currently have her own solo career, the other one is Momoko Okazaki, now MomoMetal. Kami Band after 2019 are wearing masks, during the LA Forum it was Western Kami Band playing. Last time they played this song was at Legend MM MomoMetal's 21 Birthday in March. Thanks for sharing this, see you next time and as always put your kitsune up!🦊🤘🕺

Hanabie is certainly one of the hottest exports from the Land of the Rising Sun in recent years. And the comparison with Electric Callboy is not so far-fetched, as they have a lot in common. They're damn serious and good musicians who don't take themselves too seriously and for whom genre boundaries are very flexible or simply don't exist. 🤭 For some time now, I've been thinking that these two bands could do a tour together and that one or two brilliant collaborations might be the result. We Love Sweets have already been mentioned here a few times, and I can only second the recommendation if you want to see more of these tiny yet damn great ladies. 🔥🤘🏻 Believe me, when it comes to good rock and metal music, Japan is Pandora's box. :) 👇🏻 Greetings from Germany. _____________________ _"America invented rock. Yeah, there is so much more to Japanese metal, and Japanese female metal and metalcore bands, than just Babymetal. A lot of people get into Japanese metal via Babymetal, but not everyone likes the same bands. Don't worry about the genres: just go with it. The best Japanese bands tend not to care about conforming to labels and genre categories. This is one of Hanabie's lighter tracks. Yukina does the cute, squeaky voice and the growls: Matsuri, the guitarist, does the main melodic vocals. Bass is Hettsu and drums is Chika. Other outstanding Japanese women making great metal and rock music: Nemophila, Band-Maid, Aldious, Lovebites, Gacharic Spin, Trident, Bridear, KOIAI. Those should get you started properly.

"What genre is this?", asks every new reactor. The answer is, "yes". The more precise answer is _Harajukucore._ This is the label Hanabie have adopted to describe their sound which is a mix of metal, punk, electronic, rock, pop, rap, and occasionally traditional Japanese music and instruments. The name comes from the Harajuku district in Tokyo which is famous for its trendsetting street fashion, music and art scene. You can definitely see and hear those influences in the video. All the women in the video are "gals" or "gyaru". The older style has big hair, deep tans and with long nails, dressed in bright colors, while the newer style are a more conservative version, less flamboyant. Hanabie are Matsuri - guitar, vocals, compositions. Yukina - clean and harsh vocals. Hettsu - bass and chorus. Chika - drums. Here's a link to a great 10-minute interview with the band while they were in Connecticut touring North America - czcams.com/video/PCWYQ31Es2U/video.htmlsi=-OsqfvsAQA2WQhk4 A few song recommendations for you - We Love Sweets', 'Be the GAL - early summer ver.', 'NEET GAME', 'Envy', 'Tousou' (run away), and 'GIRLS NIGHT' being the newest.
