    Great video and channel! I have a PH of between 8.1 and 8.5 depending on where I test. I brought various different fill dirt in during construction and didn’t realize the PH was so high…my bad…. Regardless do you think I am wasting my time by using all three things, elemental sulfur, Ammonia sulfate and Citric acid? I only have trees and wildflowers/weeds as a cover crop. The trees are mainly Aspens mixed with Colorado blue spruce. Some of the trees seem to be doing just fine but many of the Aspens, which did fine the first year are progressively becoming more and more chlorotic . For several years now I have been dumping on Ironite , in heavy doses and the problem is just getting worse. I don’t believe I am over watering and I am left not having a good idea where to go. I haven’t gotten soil tests results back yet and currently only know about the PH and that’s it. Lastly , some of the Aspens actually appear to have some large sections of the tree which are nice and green and s the rest of the tree is yellow. Appears to be no apparent pattern from one place in the area to another area just 10 feet away. I am at quite lost on what the culprit might be given the first two years it wasn’t that noticeable but has gotten worse. Oh, fyi I haven’t tested the water I use but clearly I need to do that asap. And no, I forgot exactly what the ratios were of fertlizer I have used till this year when I decided that something was seriously off and going south. Most of three trees were planted from 2015-2018. Any suggestions you may have WOULD BE SO APPRECIATED! Thanks so much, cheers

    Good info. Minor correction I see on lawnTube constantly. Thatch is a layer of roots, rhizomes, and stolons integrated with the soil in spreading turf. Thatch is not decomposing grass clippings and other debris. These are simply lawn debris, not thatch. Even when the pieces are too big from mowing too infrequently they are debris and not thatch. Spreading turf causes thatch. Bunching turfs do not.

    What about any effect on weeds? Let say you have a more than desirable number of weeds, say oxalis, in part of your lawn; would mulching possibly keep seeds in the lawn and distribute them whereas bagging and getting rid of it might help ?

    I have a Honda mower with the Twin-Cut blades. I cut my lawn once a week in the “mulch” setting. My old mower had a normal blade and I had to bag it but the blades on the Honda dice the mulch up nice so I leave it on the lawn. Awesome mowers! My Honda also bags nicely when the grass is wet… when I do bag.

    Great video to learn the WHY of what is largely becoming incorrect advice. I think the first disclaimer is that *MOST* people aren't going to mow 2-3 times a week. You're *lucky* to get your once a week done. The second (which was talked about) is that it's going to vary widely by area. I live in Florida, and for easily 5-6 months of the year, the grass will grow an inch or more in just 3 days. For a typical home owner who's only going to mow once a week, there are **ZERO** situations in which it makes sense to mulch. You are *ALWAYS* going to have a tremendous amount of growth where mulching is just going to lead to accumulation. I learned this intuitively during my first years of home ownership, this video was great at explaining the science behind it. Even using the lesson from this video: have none of you ever raked leaves before? Sure, those nutrients may have been returned to the soil, but you're still left with the dried remains of that leaf. It still has to get removed. Same with the grass. I'd say for 85% or more people, bagging is the way to go. I have better things to do with my free time than be mowing my yard 3 days a week! lol

      I am in Florida also and I had a service that never bagged and it seemed that I was geting a lot of weeds of all types starting to grow all over the lawn. They were also cutting the lawn next door to me and I know they had weed problem so my thinking was that by not bagging either lawn the weeds were being spread out all over the place. I decided to start cutting my lawn myself and bag every time hoping that along with a weed killer the problem will be solved...........we shall see.....

    • @SoiLab
      @SoiLab Před 18 dny

      We’re glad you’re enjoying the channel and content; we love helping educate! Bagged soils may vary in different states for many reasons ranging from manufacturing and storage to legislation, so your results may vary. That being said, we have seen similar trends with these same brands in previous studies. If you are using the soil to “top off” a garden bed and incorporating with existing soil, this can certainly change the composition and nutrient levels within the entire rooting profile vs using the mix as a stand-alone soil. This is why we always recommend a soil test before planting so that you can amend your soil with the products that your fertilizer philosophy aligns with to grow the healthiest plants.

    Why was the foliar iron watered in immediately instead of letting it soak in on the leaf blades like it's meant to?

    • @SoiLab
      @SoiLab Před 20 dny

      The premise for this approach was not so much to evaluate foliar iron applications since we know these are most effective, but will these different iron sources be available once they interact with the soil, and do we get a turfgrass response from that. Ironite and Ferrous Sulfate (Moss Treatment) granular products are something we are commonly asked about, and consumers get very mixed results. Typically, consumers cannot determine if the response is from the iron or nitrogen.

    • @krusej23
