I hunted with my Ruger Super Redhawk in .454 Casull and 4X Leupold LER scope. I shot the .300 grain Hornady XTP mags bullets (reloads) and it drops elk, deer, antelope and black bear with authority. I bought the Rossi 92 in .454 several years ago and it took the performance to a new level. I know there are a few bigger “handgun” rounds out there… but the .454 Casull is all I need. If I want to hit a little harder, I built me an XP-100 with a 14-7/8” barrel in .358 Winchester. Both are more than my 64 year old hands like these days from a handgun.

Great videos! I have a question as I'm just starting to reload pistol, specifically 38 special. I was gifted a box of old Speer #4605 Wadcutters. It's a little tough to find loads for this bullet, Speer #13 has a few loads but to me seem a little heavy (4.5-5.1 hrs unique ) just looking for plinking. I tried the 4.5 grain and got 840fps with a Ruger Blackhawk 5.5". My "ken waters pet loads" book has some loads he developed using 3.7 grain unique which he notes seating flush to case mouth. The bullet does have a crimp grove which id prefer to use. Any idea where I could get anymore load data for this bullet? I have many manuals but all newer. Thanks for all that you do!

I believe I’ve found over a hundred pounds of Linotype (in printing bar form). I’ve only purchased twenty pounds so far and would like to know for sure that it’s the real deal before I buy any more. It is for the most part thin bars 4”-5” in length and most are about 1/8” thick. Some are only 1/8” thick at the top part (where the letters are) and the bottom part tapers down thinner with ribs spaced approx 1” apart. I melted some of it down this evening and it starts to melt at 450*, but is still a little sludgy. It is pretty well completely melted at 525*. I melted a few pounds of it to further verify it’s Linotype. Here’s the part I’m unsure of. If a 1/8” bar of pure lead were bent/flexed it would do so without breaking or snapping in half. The bars that I brought home yesterday(with writing on them and some that still have ink on them) will snap if you try to bend them at all. They are very hard and pretty much will not flex or bend like pure lead. The fact that they are almost brittle is what has me wondering. Understandably, they wouldn’t be as soft as pure lead, but should they snap in half when trying to bend them? Does that sound like how the Linotype you have had your hands on would react to bending? Just so you know, I’ve been casting for low velocity pistol loads (45acp, 38special, 9mm) for about two years now, but with none of my lead exceeding the hardness of wheel weights. I had never even seen a piece of Linotype in person before yesterday, if in fact that is what I’ve found. I also used my lead pencil set and could not put a scratch in the bars I melted down until I worked my way down to an “H” pencil, which according to the chart should put it at 20-22 bhn. So, would you believe this is Linotype or is there any possibility of thin bars with writing on them being anything else? Thank you in advance for your help

I have been handloading since 1973 and currently handload for 81 different cartridges. I also cast at least one bullet style for every cartridge I load for. For all of the revolver cartridges I cast at least one Keith type SWC. I also use them in some cast bullet handloads for rifles...such as reduced loads in .35 WCF and .405 WCF. Great, useful and accurate design.

What's really nice about the .41 Special is many ranges, especially those with handgun steel plate shooting, do not allow magnum loads. So for years I couldn't use my M-58, even though I used SWC Rem. and Win. Police loads which are about 959 fps. All because the Magnum stamped on the cases.

Last year I purchased a 1949 K38 Masterpiece that truly was a masterpiece! I bought it for $700 and it was literally in perfect condition. I reloaded a batch of PC WC 148gr using 3.8gr of Hp-38. Btw, I use a MEC Marksman and load very carefully so I'm positive it wasn't a double charge. I ran about 25 rounds through it and it shot beautifully. I pulled the trigger on the next round and it exploded in my hand. I was literally in shock as it was LOUD and blew the top 3 cylinders apart. It bent the top strap up but didn't break it. I theorize that it was detonation, especially after watching this! I would think however that HP-38 would be slow enough powder for the round? I have another batch loaded with Titegroup, I guess I'd better not fire those in any of my 38's!
