    Why pick just Utah? Love the roads you mentioned plus the Devils Backbone. Have you ridden from Banff to Jasper? Have you ridden out to Tofino on Vancouver Island? Have you ridden around Crater Lake? How about highway 1 up the California coast? Have you ridden around Lake Superior? Colorado Rockies, Glacier NP, Yellowstone, Yosemite, have you ridden in any of these places. My point, the US and Canada have incredible roads through outrageous country. Utah is just one of them. And yes, I’ve ridden every place I mentioned plus allot more. I live in Colorado, where every mountain road is a treasure for the 2 wheeled enthusiast!

    The problem with THE Tail of the Dragon is EGO Maniacs!! Plain and simple. Take away the sugar coating and peel back the layers and you got an EGOTISTICAL EGO-MANIAC! They should be fined and outlawed. They need to put up speed bumps every 200 feet or even less. Would be perfect. Then they went an REPAVED the road so Now it's EVEN more DANGEROUS cause now there's no bad road, potholes, missing gravel. Nice and smooth for the speed demons. Whoever thought that was a great idea should be fired!

    I live in northeastern Tennessee. You should look up "The Snake" and ride that. It's about 110 miles +/-, and it's a great ride of twisties and awesome scenery. For that matter, look up the "Southern Dozen." All of those rides are pretty much out my front door, and they are incredible rides! The Devil's Triangle is an incredible ride as well. Thanks for sharing! Oh, and speaking of some technical riding, ride up to Cumberland Gap and ride to the top to the Pinnacle. The hairpins and switchbacks are NOT for the faint of heart. You will need some good skills for the ride to the top.

    How could you not include Moonshiner 28? Right next to the Dragon, and it's how you get to Fontana Dam! (And you can take it all the way down into GA.) And just a little ways down 129 below the Dragon is the dam where part of "The Fugitive" was filmed. Also head down US74 and check out Wayah Road, and as another commenter pointed out, US276 (and several of the roads coming off of the BRP, such as NC80 and 226/226A) are great rides. Also worthwhile is NC209 from Hot Springs down to Lake Junaluska, near Maggie Valley. And Wheels Through Time is an absolute must; first time I visited, I took a pic of that 1911 belt-drive Harley in this video, and not five minutes later, Dale Walksler fired it up and rode it outside!

    I'm nominating a #11: US 276 from Maggie Valley to Traveler's Rest, SC. Doesn't have a cool nickname, no one sells T-shirts or patches for it, but it is tougher than the Tail of the Dragon, and even tougher than US 421 (the "Snake"). It goes up and over the Blue Ridge Parkway, and it's the main road that you take from the Parkway down to Maggie Valley on the north or west side of the Parkway, but the south/east side into South Carolina is just as good.

You pretty well covered just about every road/area that's a must see/do around the Dragon except for Wayah Road that runs from Franklin, NC to the Nantahala River gorge and a beautiful but challenging ride and while riding along side of the Nantahala River you can stop at River's End restaurant for some good eats. Thanks Doodle, be safe and Blessed!!!!

    I’d say that highland valley, and de luz , make palomar look like a happy meal. Too dangerous for a bicycle though. Palomar mountain is just one big smooth hill, these other roads have elevation changes similar to the Nurburgring, if you want a real challenge. Mount laguna has much more technical corners and for for sure will give you lift off oversteer on the longer curves if you are not careful. Palomar mountain is heavily patrolled by the CHP nowdays, the speed limit is like 30mph, overcrowded due to videos like these.

  • @gregmoyers7757
    @gregmoyers7757 Před 15 dny

    In real life The Dragon is a rural 2 lane state highway, it is not a race track. Locals that are not motorcyclists use the road too. That old pickup truck that is doing 25-35 mph has just as much right being there as you do.

  • @grumpyoldretiredcop8382

    Highway 50 isn't scary in the motorcycle technical sense. It's only scary if your bike isn't in good condition and/or if you forget to bring water in case you do break down. There aren't as much curves as there is straight line across the high desert. Highway 1 between Mill Valley and Bodega Bay comes closer to qualifying as "scary", especially on a summer weekend when flatlander tourists can't manage to stay on their side of the road.

    The Dragon is flat. Anyone can ride a tight, flat turn. A tight turn on a steep decline will get your blood pumping. For added fun/challenge, ride it as the sun is coming up. Going from super bright sun in your eyes to really dark shade adds even more fun, especially when that shade hides a 15 mph speed limit turn.

    I don't like to drive the Tail of the Dragon. I just like to sit at the end and look at all the cars going through. I have a Miata and I've driven it twice, to many moron drivers/bikers on that road that don't understand that crossing yellow lines isn't cool. Also, one thing bikers (mainly rocket bike riders) don't seem to grasp is that while yes, their tires are on their side of the yellow line their HEAD is leaning two feet into MY lane. In my local area after many people got tired of being ran off the road by disrespectful drivers and bikers at the Devils Whip (Hwy 80 north), the locals stopped busting tires and crap out looking out for said types of people. Sport picture takers got ran off and if you come around a curve with your head (or car) in the wrong lane, be prepared to eat grill because people have stopped hitting the ditch for you.
