I learned to ring at Seaton and it has 6 bells now. I still ring their for practice and fore Sunday service.

They remind me on Bledington on the old "Bells of England" Saydisc recording. But they've been tuned now

First off, they're not in Equal Temperament! That might be part of the confusion. I tried working the notes out on a Turkish baglama saz, with 17 notes to the octave, and it sounds like 3rd is a quarter-tone flat, so in btw the minor and major; the 2nd and 6th are also off from ET minor/major, but not a full quarter-tone. This leads me to think that they might've been tuned to something like Just intonation or Mean Temperament, one of those older systems where all the sharps and flats were actually different intervals; ex. F# and Gb were different tones about 10-20 cents apart. I'd say it only sounds 'out of tune' to us b/c we're so used to hearing ET everything. My best guess.

Like these bells they remind me of Addingham, Emley and Shelley

i looked at Dove guide to find the notes. I know a little on music theory so here goes. we all know the basic octave pattern which is tone tone semitone. tone tone tone semitone. In music there is what is known as modes so lets look at a 12 bell ring in the key of C. if you ring all 12 or 10 or the back 8 you are in C major. if you start on the 11th which is D you have started on the second degree of the major scale and it is called Dorian and in this case D dorian. In this case it starts on F which is the 4th degree of a major scale and is the Lydian mode so these bells are tuned to F Lydian.and so is related to C major. If you were to go to a say Bow which is in. C major the 9th is in F so if you then made that the tenor and rang 6, the forth will be the treble an you will find the 6 at Blisland are the same notes as the 9th to the fourth at Bow. To take the idea further if you ring the front 8 you are starting on the 5th degree which is G and it is G Mixolydian and it doesnt obey the major scale rule so you need a sharp 2nd which makes the front 8 now G major hope this helps, i dont know to much about music theory but this I do know

The Tenor is in F# a bit like the tenor at my tower in Sussex but when I listen to this one , it is a lot like it sounds a bit like F

The treble and 2nd bell sound like lots of pigs oinking! Like the front 14 though

Tuned to WTF# is what I can say....but the tenor is definalty F# and some have elements of rings in G and F

its the tower with the tenor that does the wonky note on the first strike 0:04

Tenor sounds a flat f#. They sound something like D #C B A bG# bF#. Best I can do. Not much of a ringer but I have a vague idea of scales.

I wouldn't say it's not particularly famous ! It's a wonderful small cathedral city know as the city of philosophy for most of the 18th 19th & early 20th cent . And as you rightly point out a great peal of bells :-) thanks for sharing

My great great great great grandfather was christened here in Manchester. Every time I hear these bells they remind me of him.

Very nice indeed, it's only on something like this that one can appreciate 16 bell ringing, I hope to return here for a longer ring than what I had at the RWNYC :-)

I love Gillet bells, including the fine 12 at Coventry and the wonderful 8 in the beautiful Wren church at St James Clerkenwell. Many happy memories ringing for weddings back in the dim dark 1960s when you got the princely sum of 10 bob or what is now 50p a rope. Such a long time ago now and such a long way from home now which is Sydney

A lovely touch of simply the best method, STEDMAN CATERS. This is very well rung, a joy to listen to. I think the bells are the perfect weight not to heavy, not to light and another fine Taylor peal for sure. I think there is something really joyful about 10 bell ringing and I think Stedman is so lovely to listen to.
