Best lap of the day at Mosport DDT June 23 2024. This more or less aligns with my lap from 2 years ago last time I was here.
Apologies for the crummy audio as I was trying something new because we kept facing rain all day.

Nice! What gear ratio and what gear did you run it in?
3.75 rear end and this is 2nd gear. Our courses are small
Wat about an auto?
My understanding is it should be the same.
@@NeonDude20I just tried it and it’s the same, just hold gas n brake n it’s primes
@@coyoterob2839 thanks for updating the community!
Nice 👍
Can you do the Kona n? Thanks subscribed!
I was driving a mustang following the N. I haven't seen a Kona on track
The EN has a lot of upgrades that Hyundai say make it ready for track use on day 1. (OK, day 1 after the break in period). I can confirm that the stock brakes are up to track sessions with no fade, power is impressive, and shifting from the DCT is very strong...it even recognizes when you are on track and shifts harder. The fuel thing is not a concern, I have never had boost limited even switching between 93 and 87 and back. It happens automatically and is no big deal. I did have an issue with the car going into limp-mode after passing a slew of Corvettes and 911s. Apparently I was driving too hard and it needed a rest. The car was driveable and fixed itself after a few days, but not exactly 100% track ready. The exhaust sounds pretty good, but not as good as that Mustang!
Been a Mustang guy all my life, love them having owned 7, the last being a mid 9 second procharged '13. Was time to try something different so i picked up a DCT Elantra N last week and it is a hell of a lot of car for $35k.
the markups around here made it nearly 40k
@@B-Rok88 After trying to negotiate a sweet deal on a few and coming away with nothing I wound up paying $500 over MSRP. Might have been able to talk it down to MSRP but it was a long day and I wanted to get home.
Stage 2 tune from n75 and would put the Elantra N at 305 and would smash. The car is amazing. Can't wait to get one.
what kinda trash tune is that? bone stock they dyno 286 wheel with just a tune they make 320WHP
What Car is this ?????? This is Not the Elantra .
The white car is an Elantra N
no... the Elantra is the white car gapping him in front lol. I love my EN. That is most likely Stock. 0-60 5sec give or take. It's fast and comes track ready from the factory
are you a part of those clubs to be able to track on DDT? can't seem to find a way to participate in an open lapping session.

fake
What's fake?
He is following the Elantra N... it the one that went off track at the end.
You need to update your car knowledge.
@@TonyStone3000 the white car at the start of the video is an Elantra n. It passes a car ahead of me then makes an appearance at the end.
@@NeonDude20 Looks like he went past the limits. But before then he was laying down the law. 😆
Please tell me that Elentra N is NOT stock. That is freaky if it is. Heck even if it isn't. Wow great driving vid!
As far as I could tell it is stock with sticky tires. Pretty impressive!
@@NeonDude20 Dang! I'm impressed. Welp ... time to CZcams the Elanta N. Be safe out there and keep road coursing.
Ikr? Lol it looks like it's one of those hidden gems that people overlook but give it time and people will notice
@@djpollo2474 nobody wants to notice it’s crazy how many people I humble in my stock veloster N dct and yet people still hate that it’s a great car lol
They are quick but they can also make more power from the factor, The elantra has a stupid "feature" you do in order to gain more and maximize power and its called fuel learning. Basically EN has 16-17psi of boost but if you do fuel re learn it will hold to 20psi if you put 91 or higher octane and whats so stupid about it is that you have to do it every fill up
Holy smokes! Did he crash it at the end? Or just run off the road? Awesome video by the way!
The guy prolly messed up on a turn. The elantra N was fast as fuck. It was going over turns like nothing. Pretty fucking nuts.

It’s so frustrating when some guys don’t have enough sense to get out of the way so they can learn something from faster drivers
The guy/gal is probably very new. Sending them out with no guidance of course they won't understand. That's the challenge with "open" events. Many organized events require a sign off to help things like this. My bigger concern was the risk to themselves and other drivers.
NeonDude2.0 I’ve been an instructor at various times and unfortunately there are a few ( thankfully just a few) who even with instruction can’t swallow their pride enough to let folks by. Once I sat in the right seat of a fully optioned M3 driven by a guy who seriously wasn’t mature enough to own it. We were on the DDT at CTMP and got caught by a guy in a Matrix of all things. Mind you it was driven by a Formula Ford champion. I tried to urge the M3 driver to let the Toyota pass so he could follow and learn things. He wouldn’t and got black flagged for his attitude. I went to the organizer and asked for another instructor to go with him cause he just won’t listen!
@@ConemantheBarbarian you guys who sit right seat with total strangers are brave.
NeonDude2.0 I’ve been lucky so far. 99.9% of students seem to listen. The students who want to learn are great fun to ride with. The ones who think they have nothing to learn are the dangerous ones. Even pros learn something every time out
Miss these neons, loved this generation.
I do too. I have many fond memories of them. I grew up only a few miles down the road from where they were manufactured in Belvidere, Illinois. The green ones were always my favorite color. I still remember fondly the old "Hi" advertising campaign Chrysler had for them.
@@WKZworks my sister got a red coupe back in the day, loved them ever since. These were the best neon by far the next gen didnt deliver even with the srt4.
Update for the Tesla folks. We ran again this year on a smaller technical track. No changes to the Mustang and the Tesla had proper tires and brake pads. The 2 cars posted lap times within 1 sec of each other.
Them tires are fricken 300 bucks each
how much experience does both drivers have? it’s very hard to compare cars if the driver skills aren’t equal. Also, probably will need some telemetry/data to really say what’s faster. Unfortunately i personally don’t feel like this video proves much on the difference if the cars. Looks more like difference in driver skill to me. Lastly i’ll keep my comments on both drivers level of skill to myself. Would like to see one pro driver take both cars and do hot laps to see which car has better times around the same track.
*T E S L A I S L I F E*
Nice video... looks like you guys were both on it. Did your friend stop due to overheating? ... Were you keeping distance between you or was that everything you had? I ask because in most cases like this, the video makes it look like you're further away than you actually were in real life, and you may not have wanted to get any closer.
The only issues he had was with the factory brakes. I believe he was pulling off due to brake fade. The cars were pretty evenly matched.
God, that Mustang sounds annoying!
Said no one. 🤣🤣🤣
Yea I can't seem to get ford to fix it
you must be a very boring person
Was the Tesla driver braking or was it regen turning on the brake lights? The Mustang was gearing down to slow and the Tesla using regen to slow which brings on the lights.
Mustang 0-60-4.4 sec Model 3 RWD, 0-60 5.1 sec. Does anyone else think they put they put the model 3 in front on purpose, and the goal was to catch up?
0-60 has absolutely no bearing on handling, hence why a Miata could leave behind plenty of "fast" cars on a track. Tesla's traction control is also leagues better than any other car due to the millisecond level response of the motors.
@@TheDevonParker what I'm saying is the mustang should have over taken the model 3 intially
Yes I let the tesla by so I could capture it on video. That wouldn't have been very interesting if he was behind me :).
Model 3 driver lacks the experience and skills of track driving. Those brake lights were on through most of the corners.
Agreed. I'm at the track weekly and race at least once a month. You can tell the driver in the mustang had a lot more skill then the tesla driver, from the shift points and sound of the mustang and where the tesla driver was breaking.
Will Day I live in San Diego and would love to get into track driving just for fun, but I have no idea where to start.
Remember the Tesla has regenerative brakes. It will turn the brake lights on when you lift off the "throttle".
@@compu85True, but there is an option on the model 3 to dampen the effect so it acts somewhat like a transmission. I guess we don't know it it was on or not. I'm also guessing that since the model 3 is relatively new, the driver is not very experienced with the vehicle, which can make a huge difference in track times.
Regeneration was on. The factory pads were overheating so he wanted to help take some of the braking load off of the mechanical brakes. First time he has lapped that car.
It seems that model 3 failed to put any lead after passing. If it didn't go into overheat Protection, at least we know it can keep up with mustang GT or rather, mustang can keep up with model 3 on track.
271hp vs 450hp+
Electric Instant Torque vs A Calm Mustang Driver that seems to have been going slowly around the track before the Tesla passed. I feel both cars could have been pushed a little more before entering "drift" mode. I am sure an Automatic 2018 Mustang with the 10 speed transmission would do much much better, but electric is the future. I will miss the sound of a v8 engine when they are gone.
Devon Parker and the model 3 is heavier
put a lead after passing ? the model 3 driver slowed down intentionally , don't you notice it ?
it's not even comparable
Was it hard to keep up? Did the Model 3 go into thermal protection or limit power at all?
The Model 3 doesn't have the thermal limitation issue as the S or X. The S & X use induction motors, the 3 uses a switch reluctance motor (SRM). As the name implies, an induction motor induces a current in the coil wiring of the rotor (no magnets), that creates heat that isn't easy to dissipate since it's a rotating part that can only be cooled by limited airflow. The use of magnets in the rotor of the SRM means that the rotor is not a significant source of heat generation. It does well for extended periods of high output use.
The model 3 was going to exit the track that's why it slowed down.
Yes I’m I’m aware the 3 has faced fewer thermal issues than the S so far, I was asking how it performed in this particular situation. And the cooling differences between the 3 and S have far more to do with the inverter and cooling loops. Look at detailed breakdowns of the S drive unit and you will see what I’m talking about. To the other commenter, I’m well aware he was slowing to exit the track. Not sure why you are mentioning it.
Thermally he had no issues with the drivetrain. He ran out of time to get his track pads installed so he was limited based on brake fade (the model 3 also gives a warning on the dash). He was turning a best lap of 1:20 and my best was a 1:17. Considering the Mustang has 220TW tires to the 500TW tires on the tesla, big brakes, better pads, and a more focused suspension setup (both cars are stock) it was really very impressive! It wouldn't take much to make it faster.
NeonDude2.0 Thanks for the reply. That is pretty impressive considering its an LR RWD with stock all season tires.
How difficult was the trans swap?
AnglerofPa not terribly hard. Depends on your comfort level with working on cars. Just bolts in no real special fitment required. Oddly, the pedals took the longest due to the awkward working positiin.
NeonDude20 awesome thanks! I’m a mechanic but I’ve never done an auto to manual swap. Thanks for the info on the fitment.
