Elk Creek Acres
A small family farm Central New York, we have two horses, two dogs, an evil cat, 30 chickens and 1 rooster we call Fred. We make small square bales and round bale hay that we sell, along with growing sweet corn, potatoes and pumpkins that we sell and enjoy for ourselves. It is truly a team effort, we all pitch in and at the end of each day we seem to get the job done. We've recently upgraded the 2038R that has been featured in many videos to a 3039R with deluxe cab that will be the main stay for some time, I also sometimes try to include some of our older tractors that include a John Deere 2555, a White 2-85, a Ford 5000 and a '56 Case that we call "Justin Case" because it is always there for us in a pinch.

John Deere 3039R w box blade improving the feed pen
It's time to level this ground up a little. It's not terrible, but it can definitely be better. I moved 8 yards of screened bank run gravel into the feed pen to try and improve the feeding experience.

Planting potatoes with an antique planter.
zhlédnutí 470Před 2 měsíci
Our neighbor has had this antique potato planter in his barn for more than 20 years, asked me if we wanted to try it out. Of course I said yes, there is just something very cool about old farm equipment. He is not sure of the age, only that his grandfather used it for many years as a horse drawn planter, we guessing 75 years old. #johndeere #3039r #antique

It's been an adventure lately! We had a great trip to Charlotte NC, but before we left I accidentally broke the invisible fence that we have for our dogs. I was trying to pull up some locust tree saplings and had forgotten that we ran the fence through that area. In my defense that was 12 years ago when we buried that. Necessary repairs were made, all is well, and the dogs are safe. This gettin...

Feeding a round bale ahead of our short vacation to NC. I've also been purchasing Ariat boots, everybody and their brother kept telling me that I need to buy these. It's been a bit of a trial, one pair is good now, but it took quite a bit of break in with the help of glove oil and use. Another pair were so tight I almost couldn't get them on my feet. The third pair is perfect, starting to sound...

Some nasty winter mix precipitation coming, pretty much the whole nine yards. Snow, rain, sleet, freezing rain and a mix of the whole thing tonight and into tomorrow morning. Thought I'd feed another bale ahead of it. #johndeere #horses #roundbale

I’ve decided that I’ve had enough of wanting around for a snow storm. I can get more done without the snow blower on, so I’ve decidedly to take it off. If needed I can put back on in just a few minutes, but we’ll cross that bridge if it ever comes. #johndeere #3039r #winter

The Precision Manufacturing add a grapple with the Heavy Hitch toothbar

I am loving this Precision Manufacturing Add a Grapple, in combination with the newly acquired Heavy Hitch toothbar it works amazing. What I'm not liking is this winter weather, it's mud season 3 (at least) I would much rather have snow and cold. But, like or not, I will take advantage of the weather and clean out the feed pen again. #johndeere #precisionmanufacturing #grapplebucket

What brand is that tater planter is that? I've never seen that kind of mechanical kind.
Great video. Needed to adjust mine and this was helpful to increase the height. Does the feedback control also adjust the low limit position or is that only adjusted with the valve linkage? mine does not seem to drop low enough. Also were you able to remove pin “B” in the image from the service manual for the valve adjustment without taking the tire off? It looks like it’s a pressfit pin. As I said I need mine to drop lower to hook up to a a JD weight ox with my imatch. Now I need my weight box to be on RR ties to reach it since the hitch won’t drop low enough. Thanks for the videos!
Standing around outside and not swatting looks like you need some deer flies and horse flies. 😂
Nutt'n I like better than watch'n someone else mow...
Nice job Pat, got the stuff in to convert my box blade to a pusher type to fit on my FEL. All I need is to get around to it.
Thank you!! I've considered doing that now that I have the 72" box blade, some shoes and QC set on the rear of the box and should be ready.
A box blade with a hydraulic top link is a pretty sweet set up.
@@andysmith8544 I agree, it’s almost a must with a box blade.
Thanks for the ride along. We have been using our box blade on our long gravel driveway. I don’t know if I’ll ever consider myself good with it. Tines down one hole to dig out the potholes seems to be the best so far.
@@qcan8468 there is a definite learning curve with a box blade. A few years ago I found a channel @digginlife21 and that really changed things for me. He is a real talent with a tractor and box blade.
Looks good, Pat! 👍 🥔
@@rodshepard3967 thanks Rod!!
Only negative I see is sharpening the blades probably takes awhile
Yes, that is a bit of a chore.
Drove through your area last week. I-88 seemed a little better than last time. At least I didn’t hit my head on the roof of my truck!
They've been working on it, slowly, but it's definitely getting better.
Which rows are the twice baked potatoes? 😅 Looking good my friend.
That would be rows 2-4 LOL
Cool!!!
Thanks Michael.
Do you hill your taters?
Yes I do, check out my latest video, or the potato playlist where there are a few hilling videos.
Great demo! Thanks!
My pleasure, for the record, I still believe this is one of the best things I’ve bought for any of my tractors.
Nice, but why are you flying a flag on your tractor? 😂😂🤣🤣🤔
our screen on our 4410 was rusted, and really hard to get out. It was so caked with dust and dirt that our mower started overheating
I hear ya, these screens should be on all tractors, a lot easier to clean this off than blow out the radiator every time.
What’s up with your pto shaft, the cv boot didn’t stay and the shaft it self seems to be 1/2 sleeved with something else.
It just came un clipped from the mower side, I fixed it after this, but its just the PTO shield.
Helpful thanks !!!
Glad we could help.
6 months with my 3039R and it’s by far hands down my favorite machine in our landscape fleet. Love my skidsteers but there’s just something about out the cab that makes this machine a Cadillac of machines
I agree 100%!! We don't have a skid steer in our little hobby farm, so this tractor is just so useful for moving things around, stacking round bales etc etc...
The flail mower certainly has its place. If you want to mow an area where you want to get it really close to the ground the flail works good. You have to remember though that some areas you don't want the grass to be cut in that way. You want to eliminate small trees, weeds and the like but you don't want the grass to be hurt or stunted because you cut it to low to the ground. You may want cattle to be able to graze it. That would be brush hog country. It's not always about making things look like a country club. The flail is way more service intensive than the brush hog too. The brush hog this guy has will outlast him and the only thing he has to do is very basic maintenance.
Absolutely, this was a field that we normally cut hay on, I was just reclaiming it. I really just wanted to see what the flail was made of, but in all honesty I would use a brush hog for this as I did. The flail mowers are a lot more maintenance as you said compared to a brush hog. I still prefer my brush hog in most cases, just me I guess.
I need to know how big you are? That cab looks enormous with you sitting in it and maybe a fish eye lens?
I'm not a big guy, 5'4". I mentioned that in the video, that a large guy say 6'2" 250 lbs probably wouldn't be comfortable in this cab.
I watched the whole video. I swear I didn’t hear you say how big you were. My wife is 6’2” 250 lbs. I really want a green cab but I know deep down I gotta pick a different color…
@@bigsway4414he meant that he mentioned that someone 6’2” and 250lb probably wouldn’t fit well, not that he mentioned his own size 👍
🥔 🥔 👍
I get super excited when I go from one room to another and remember what I needed. 😂
I hear that 😂🤣
You may want to add some wheel spacers that extra width will give you more stability. I have one on a boomer 50 and even with large front weights and ballast they do give you a few squeaky bum moments. A neighbour had a 1.2 on a boomer 25c subcompact , the most dangerous set up I’ve ever seen just a push on the rops was enough to start it tipping 😲
This one wasn't too bad on this tractor, I have the factory 2.4' wheel spacers, fluid in the rears and two sets of wheel weights. But, even with all that, you definitely know it's back there.
What blades are on the flail?
Hammer blades.
Cool old implement and still able to use it. 👍
I agree!!
Very cool piece of equipment
Definitely is, we’re in talks with him about buying it.
Pretty neat.
Very neat, there’s just something cool about old farm equipment.

So satisfying to watch you cut that tall grass thanks for sharing
They are amazing mowers for sure.
Thank you for taking the time to make these videos of the 3039R! These are really useful for anyone trying to decide which model is the best fit. For someone new to tractors there are so many factors to consider it's really helpful to hear what an owner thinks.
You’re welcome, there certainly are lots of different models with lots of different configurations and capabilities to choose from.
hey you know im sorry that you feel that way about safety but you should care about safety because those kinda equipment could kill you if you do it wrong please take as with an grain of salt

Hahaha, that’s funny !!
Thanks for the ride and story time Pat. 👍
Thanks for riding along Bob.
You sure have a bunch of nice green equipment.
Thanks Michael
But even though it's a beefier tractor. The 3R still has aluminum diferental housings. I believe you will have to move up to the 4 series to get the extra weight of the iron housings?
This is true, but the 3R/3X20 series have been around for many years now, not ever heard of an issue with them.
I just set my JDMX5 and 3039R at top speed in low range (about 4 mph)and let her go using the cruise control. Seems to do a good job.
That's my preference as well, A range and send it.
@ElkCreekAcres I have tried the lower part of Mid I it just dont feel right. It's pretty hilly here and it gave me the feeling that it's slipping. I think it was a little past 5 mph. I feel safer leaving it in low. Seems like it would keep the hydraulic fluid flowing at a faster rate to the hydrostat,in turn keep the tranny cooler? At least that's what Tractor Mike" utuber" says.
@@bradbruggeman6745 I agree, I love that this tractor has A range, I use it more than I would've expected.
Have a great vacation.
Thank you!!
Hello, Pat. 👋
Hello Michael.
Switched from to boots from Red Wings. Been wearing RW for years but last 2 pairs have fallen apart. So far really happy with Ariat so far. Had Ariat riding boots years ago and was happy so figured I would go back to the Brand again. Hope this summer isn't like last summer for Hay Pat. Was a terrible year for hay. Anyway Safe travels .
Thank you Bob!! I was ready to give up on Ariat, but the nice customer service lady talked me into trying another pair, now I’m glad I listened.
There is nothing better than a big ole bowl of Captain Crunch... a man after my own heart. LoL.
That's right!!
12 or negative 12, that heater is kicking and doing its job! 😉 😆
That it does, if the A/C worked as good as the heat I’d have to wear a jacket in July lol
@ElkCreekAcres, right!! I'm probably going to go ahead and get my cab windows tinted this summer. Minus the front windshield. A guy down the road from me had his done last year. He said it definitely made a difference.
I was going to ask you how you liked the tooth bar, Pat. I've been thinking about purchasing one. But, I can't decide on which one I want. Yeah, I know, I'm way behind on videos. 🤦♂️
lol, you’ll catch up quick, I’ve been a little slow at putting them out. I love this tooth bar, for my use it’s the best, and it compliments this grapple bucket nicely.
@ElkCreekAcres I've been researching them quite a bit lately. Yep, I just finished your last video from yesterday!
All snow here in the Champlain Valley of Vermont. Five inches so far with a forecast of 12+. I’ll probably give plowing a try but the gravel driveway is soft. Never been a Captain Crunch guy; Frosted Flakes are more my style.
We had about 3” this morning, turned to rain and now it’s been snowing again for an hour or so, what a mess. From what I hear they’ve been getting it pretty good north of us. PS Frosted Flakes aren’t bad either 😬
Looks like some nasty stuff headed your way. We got 5 inches today and still snowing. The beginning of the storm this morning it was melting as it was coming down. The ground was so warm from the last few days. No snow removal here either Pat. I raked all my gravel already from grass, so I'm not doing it again. Supposed to be 50° by Monday so it will be leaving anyway. Have a good weekend Pat 👍
Thanks Bob, we’re supposed to be in the 50’s by Monday, Mother Nature can do the snow removal this time.
Total disaster with my new 3039r so far. Had it maybe 2 weeks and it’s been at the dealer for over a month now. 6.7 hrs, 1.4 miles and the front wheel bearing failed which caused the seal to leak. Also somehow the power steering pump has failed. It has more time going on and off a trailer than me using it. Quality control at the plants must be laid off.
Real sorry to hear this, but I agree, quality control is going down hill.
I'm hoping I can get 42" rows what do you think
That shouldn’t be a problem.
How wide is your rows
These were about 76”, I’m going to narrow them up a little bit this year.
@ElkCreekAcres as far as I can figure, the narrowest I can go is 42" rows
@@user-ur8ln4ii7q That's been my problem with the larger tractors. When I did this with my 1 series and the 2025 I had the rows about 30", there were less weeds with the tighter rows, but this is manageable.
