    This was extremely helpful! I loved all your examples because its pretty much the best way to gauge an anti-depressant's efficacy - being able to do things that were made difficult by depression and anxiety. I'm on Lexapro. Its been helpful at avoiding negative thoughts but my motivation to do anything is warped, and have zero desire to do anything I'll be speaking to my doc about nardil, Wellbutrin etc

    So, Nardil worked for awhile, but is not as effective, now?

  • @MyDancer1996
    @MyDancer1996 Před měsícem

    I have been taking Nardil since I was in my 20s. Almost 40 years! It’s I’ve been through many different phases and have lots of advice. First, be sure to get a prescription for Nifedipine gel capsules. If you have a reaction, you can pop one in your mouth and swallow the gel to immediately lower dangerous blood pressure spikes. I’ve found over the years that only a couple of food/drinks affect me (cold medication, sake, brandy, pepperoni), but sometimes it seems that my blood pressure spikes for absolutely no reason. So be sure to carry Nefedipine. This is the only medication that works for me. Without it, I’m a mess. I’ve tried practically everything else. If the Nardil starts pooping out over time, you need to decrease and then increase back up to kick start it. If that doesn’t work, go off completely and try something else far a few months and then try again later. I did ok on Lexapro/wellbutrin for a couple of years . When that pooped out , I went back on Nardil and it worked again. Other good thing to tr- ECT. It has a pretty high success rate.

Depression seems to be worse than anxiety due to the inhibition to do what I want in life, (achieve goals, etc.). I can give you my take, as I’ve been on it since the 1980s. It tends to be energizing so you may feel a kick start in the very beginning, however the real effect takes 6-8 weeks. I usually go through a manic stage coupled with fainting from low blood pressure when I first start the medication after being off of it. But for me it is a small price to pay to combat my debilitating depression. So far, it’s been the only thing that works. It’s also the best thing for social anxiety. Just be sure to carry Nifedipine gel capsules to break open and take for blood pressure spikes. I’ve found that I can eat almost everything but it’s individual.

    Great video as always. I've suffered from anxiety and depression for the majority of my adult life but never had the opportunity to stay in bed for six months or even a day lol. Maybe you can clarify that for those that have heard that from people as many use that phrase. I had to work and then raise three children and it was difficult until I found the right medication. In fact, it was a nightmare. Could you tell us how you got food and money to survive that long stretch? You look healthy right now so I hope you can get through this episode quickly. Thanks for the message and input Gia! Happy to share more here and maybe also in a video in the future. In my particular situation with that 6 month depressive episode where I was mostly in bed (just eating, going online, sleeping, for the most part, and not leaving the house much due to both the depression and anxiety), I was fortunate that I had a job that I was with for a while which offered disability. Things at work triggered my anxiety, depression and a depressive episode, so I took a leave of absence and went on disability. I also had different types of support available from family and friends, which was very helpful. I know not everyone has those opportunities, and even my own available resources have now changed this time around, which is one of the reasons I am sharing my experiences and trying to share what has helped for me (and what hasn't) - because I know there are people with less opportunities and resources, and it makes it even harder to cope with these health issues.

  • @DepressionSupportProject

    I debated posting this video because I know it is not reflective of everyone's current experience, especially those in a very deep depression. I truly think there are cases (I have been there myself) where we really need to reach out for as much external support (friends, family, professionals, etc) as we have available to us. I will do another video on that sentiment. I don't want this video to make it seem easy, it has been a long journey getting here overall. I just want to share some practical tips and some hope/inspiration. I am still very much dealing with depression and daily struggles. I hope we can all find what we need to get better.

      Hey Gia! My routine has been very inconsistent lately, though I do know from the past some tools and tips for routine and things that have helped me in the past. It's hard sometimes knowing the way vs walking it. For rumination, I most often video journal (to myself) to get my thoughts out, it has helped immensely, especially when I am feeling isolated. On top of that, keeping myself busy. Sometimes it is healthier things like a book, sometimes I just put on a movie I have seen before to get my mind from ruminating. I tried Latuda and it worked for a day, then stopped having any effect, it sounds like it works for you which is great to hear. I understand you 100% when you say they sound like small things - I have been there - when suffering from depression and anxiety, it's like doing everything with a weight on your back, the small tasks become mountains to climb. I am so glad to hear you are getting back to those things, they are the building blocks of feeling better, recovering and getting back on track. I wish you the best in your continuing journey through this!
