A teacher in my school Drummond Middle was murdered when he went out jogging in the 80s. He used to work with special needs children, I think. I remember seeing him jogging in our local area often. I think his name was Donald Swain. Not sure if his murderer was ever caught. I'd love for that story to be covered.
Interesting. I might look this up. Thanks for sharing ð
@@BradfordThroughTheLens Another story which never got much coverage in the papers was of a body found in the cellar of the shop directly across from where the teacher's body was found. We heard that the body was over a hundred years old and was found in a locked cupboard so no investigation was done as too much time had passed. No idea if those details are correct or Chinese whispers. The shop is the corner shop ( I think it's now a hairdressers called Trims) on Carlisle Road. The teacher's body was found in the back garden of the corner house on Highfield Place which is the at the rear side of the shop.
â@noonoofulable Fascinating! You know of any dates?
@@BradfordThroughTheLens Unfortunately I can't remember any dates.
@@noonoofulable No problem. Thanks
I remember his death as I used to walk near or past those toilets often as a child. I remember when that public toilet was bricked up. It's the first time I have heard the name of the victim. Hope they can still solve this cold case.
I found it quite scary every time I walked past it as a youngster.
@@BradfordThroughTheLens Me too. I avoided it as much as possible.
What a fascinating video! I had no idea there was so much to the construction of these graves and that coffin-less, shroud only burials were commonplace back then. Given the work involved in building graves like this, I'm assuming, possibly incorrectly, that only relatively well off people would be buried in them? Imagine what it would cost to build a grave like this today with all the underground brickwork and elaborate monument type headstones. This looks like heavy work so well done and respect to all the volunteers involved.ðð
Thanks for connecting. We have more videos to upload in which we are trying to save our local history. The weight and the construction of the stone are incredible for its time.
Sad - its good that you respect her enough to leave flowers.
Thank you for sharing this lads, love a bit of Yorkshire history. Peace, love and respect my Yorkshire brothers.
Thanks for connecting. Yorkshire through and through.
Another excellent video. Have always loved the look of this building. Can I ask where you obtained all the plans etc in the folder? Keep up the great work.

Same on Thornton Road a bit further down from Morrisons where they are doing the road work, you can see all the beautiful cobblestones and tram lines under the tarmac.
Oh yes , I know where you mean. Thanks.
The good folk of Bradford should be very proud of both of you for your effort and hard work, documentating these old over grown cemeteries. Well done and thank you.
Yet another great effort guys. So fascinating to see modern Bradford historically linked to its past. Bradford Industrial Museum well worth a day out visiting.
It's amazing to see. Thank you .
I have a hunch some track might have been lifted and reused from earlier mineral tram lines. There were quite a few of such lines for low moor iron works... i got a look at 1852 os map. It's before st enochs was built... there was a tram line running down from wibsey along down along line of ridge, past a pit, then doing a sharp 90deg turn across what would now be sports fields for grange accademy, crosses haycliffe lane and ends at some coal staithes very close to where st enochs road now ends. 90 deg bend on line suggests to me it might have been an inclined plane/use stationary winding engines I wonder if the bridge for st enochs across haycliffe lane is older than st enochs and used carry mineral line to coal staithes
Thank you for this.
A haunted house is the least of Bradfords issues! Rather have the haunted house than the other things.
