OMG! You made it look so easy. I'm brand new to soaping and tried this. It volcanoed! What a mess. I was so distraught that I forgot to add my EO's. I just want to cry. :(

Mine is still cooling but I have the skin and the shaving foam look on top. I'll remove it (as recommended) and add 2 ounces of warm water to dissolve it and then add it back. How to I avoid that the next time. Did I stir it too much in the 4 phases once I added the lye/water to the oils?

Since there is no stove during the "cooking process" does that mean that both the oil and lye water were hot and immediately combined together to "cook" the soap without stove?

There didn't seem to be any volcanos , or rises in your method, and the zap test would be a good idea to make sure this soap was fully cooked, otherwise, thank you for this tutorial 😊

This would be more like an HTCP (high temperature cold process) soap. I make hot process soap and it's normally ALWAYS "cooked" in a crock pot for at least 30 minutes, until it reaches the Vaseline stage or a finished temperature of 190°F. Tested with a PH strip, it should be between 8 and 10 PH. That way you know for a fact the lye is neutralized. Then, too, there's the "zap" test.

What's the PH and how long do you wait to use this? I can see the fumes coming off this recipe. Everyone who does this should have good ventilation and wear a mask.

The calculation of NaOH and KOH is not right according your data in gram: according to used oil weights and saponifications factors you should use 73.2 gram NaOH and 103.19 gr KOH. How did you calculate 14 gr NaOH and 87 gr KOH ????

Why do people never add an actual recipe in the description?

Ingredients: Coconut Oil, Stearic Acid, Distilled water and Lye mixture, Vegetable? Glycerin (added to lye water), Alcohol, Propylene Glycol, and Sorbitol?

For all those putting comments and questions: I am a new comer into the world of handmade soap. I purchased the Ultimate Guide 2 Hot Process book. It is a fantastic resource to everything about natural soap making. From the history of soap making, through the science and every other aspect of the art of making natural soap. In my opinion, the book should be rename; I would call it : The University of Natural Soap Making. it is truly a rich book. Even though I am older, and struggle to retain the knowledge I acquire with this book, there is NOT a question I have, that I cannot find the answer to in this book. It is a digital book, but I requested a printable version and I printed it myself. I have not connection to the writer , I’m not even part of the Facebook group, at least yet. I just love the book so much that seeing some of the posted questions, felt that it would be worth sharing my experience with the book.

I noticed in the purchased UGLS tutorial, this recipe calls the glycerine and water amounts to be reversed ... in this video, it's stated 4 oz water and 7.16 Glycerine, in the tutorial, it's the reverse ... does it matter? I think it does .. I think the manual is right .. according to the tutorial, glycerine should be between 20-25% of the oil weight (16 oz, in this case), so I think Glycerine should be 4 oz and Distilled water should be 7.16 (the manual says 7.18, that might be splitting hairs and below our scales precision .. but we're chemists, right?!).

When they sasy the sodium lactate salt that is an option,, along with regular NaCl, they give the recipe in ounces ... SL is usually sold as a liquid of a certain %. I assume they mean the tyically-used 60% solution used in hard bar soap recipes? and it needs to be weighed, not measured?

Yesterday I made this recipe, it is wonderful! It hardened in one or two hours in cavity molds, then I melted a piece, added TD, powdered yellow mica, lemon fragrance and made some opaque, vibrant colored, beautiful little lemons for embeds! Very pleased with it, it still smells like alcohol, I just wonder the time we need to cure this transparent base before actually usiing it. - - - Ayer hice esta receta, ¡es maravillosa! Se endureció en una o dos horas en molde de varias cavidades, luego derretí un trozo, agregué TD, mica amarilla en polvo, fragancia de limón e hice unos pequeños limones opacos, de colores vibrantes y hermosos. Estoy muy contenta con la receta, todavía huele a alcohol, solo me pregunto cuánto tiempo necesitamos para curar esta base transparente antes de usarla.
