Adjusting belt tension on the Kinetic R1
zhlédnutí 2,4KPřed 4 lety
This video shows how to adjust the tension on your trainer's belt. A loud belt is often an over-tensioned belt. Readjusting belt tension can minimize the volume and change the pitch of belt sound. Over time your trainer belt can also loosen slightly and it may become necessary to tighten it to prevent belt slip. NOTE: DO NOT over loosen the tensioner pulley lock screw. Only about 1/2 to 1 turn ...

On my T-6400, the power readings are too high (compared to readings from my Assioma Duo power meter pedals) by about 20'ish Watts at low power (50'ish W on Assioma compared to 70'ish W on T-6400) and from there it gets progressively worse (170'ish W on Assioma compared to 300'ish W on T-6400). Essentially useless. Plus, as of Feb. 2024, Kinetic customer service is non-existent. I've contacted Kinetic about the problems with power accuracy three times in the past 2 months and have not heard back from them. STAY AWAY FROM THIS TRAINER AND THIS COMPANY.

The most important part is missing: the software calibration process. Kurt Kinetic utterly failed here. The whole purpose of a power meter is measurement. For that, you need software to calibrate the signal coming from the machine, as every time you tighten the knobs (which have been attached with a terrible variable screw-mechanism), the watts shown will be different, even when tire pressure is a constant. A Garmin does not hold the proper calibration software standard to do this, so an app is required, Kurt Kinetic has the Inride App for this purpose. The sensor cannot be calibrated properly, their software on Android crashes constantly, the measurement stops during a ride, etc. It's a mess. And it's a known problem. In this field, the Kurt Kinetic not only failed utterly, but their customer service is deflecting, while they do keep advertising on Strava even with a shill marketing effort. Avoiding the Android issue alltogether and advising to buy an iPhone (costing twice the amount of a decent powermeter that would render this hometrainer's powermeter selling point obsolete), all the tricks in the book but to avoid having to put together a properly functioning app. Their recommendation (and no surprise, TrainerRoad CEO Nate is from Kurt Kinetic) is to calibrate with a third party application, such as TrainerRoad or Zwift. Which is fine, if you are willing to pay a monthly 20 USD fee just to have a constant calibration. We can all do the math, within a year or two you could buy a properly functioning power meter on your bike from that amount, which you will be able to use outdoors as well. Interestingly, the calibration process in the TrainerRoad app has no issues whatsoever.. So somehow, what Kurt Kinetic was not able to do while Nate was still there, Nate is able to do while Nate he is the CEO of TrainerRoad. What a coincidental difference in expertise! When asked, Kurt Kinetic is ignoring its customer base. It is not even made clear that the initial sensor these Roadmachines came with did not work upfront. So it was recommended to upgrade to a newer sensor (at cost), which does not do the job either, since the software is faulty. They were selling a product of which they knew that a significant part of their customer base will not be able to use its prime feature, unless spending a lot more on affiliated subscriptions. To top it off, interesting collaboration between Garmin and TrainerRoad as well: the workouts that you upload to your Garmin from TrainerRoad can no longer be accessed under the Workout plans in your Garmin, after you pause your subscription to TrainerRoad. Seems these providers are one happy gang, abusing their software control. My recommendation is to avoid these manufacturers. Save yourself some money from tempting "cheap" workarounds to measure power, get yourself a decent power meter on your bike and use an offline independent software like Golden Cheetah, so not even Garmin can mess with your data through the server-based location of all your data. Which they can limit access to at any time and are probably selling to a third party anyway.

I believe the company has now been sold to someone else. I did not get any response from my inquiry about the road machine failing. The cadence is way low and the wattage is 10 to 20 W low now.

The Kinetic app software on Android is a piece of garbage and has never been fixed, the sensor change will not fix it. What does work is paying about 20 USD monthly for a third party application, where you can calibrate your ride before every ride and the signal does not crash. Or you can make the sensible choice and forget about this trash and buy a power meter on the bike instead. Which is what I should have done instead of wasting my money on these people.

Hi I had purchased a Kurt Kinetic bike trainer through happy earth in 2018. The power socket has loosened/ become wobbly and off late it's become really cumbersome to get the workouts due to repeated disconnection of power supply. Kindly suggest what could be done to rectify the problem. Thanks and regards.

I strongly recommend you don't make the mistake I did an buy a Kinetic trainer. The trainer itself can be functional, but 1) They have no app for android any more. A year ago they promised they were updating it and a year later still no app. 2) Calibration is hit and miss with iOS. Often I end up with very little resistance. I'd like to think I could go that fast, but I can't. 3) Functionally there is no customer service. On their website if you hit contact it goes to an error page. When I called a customer service number I found via a third party website, I got a message to go to e-mail them. 4) If you use the iOS app, well it is awful as well. They have plenty of competitors - pick a different trainer.

I purchased this and found the Inride pod had to be moved closer to the magnet in order to be detected. Not a big deal (just needed some double-sided tape), but it was a bit disconcerting that the unit was shipped with the sensor attached in the wrong place. Also, don't assume the battery it ships with is "fresh". If the sensor doesn't seem to work, try another battery first. I did this and found the sensor responded to me waggling a magnet past it, but didn't respond to the roller. When I moved the sensor closer to the magnet, it worked.
