Cole is a character being sacrificed and used by the feudal system of society that does not care of any individuals life, Cole’s actions against the Blacks is perceived to be as villainous, even though some see him as a hero for the Greens, and as a villain for the Blacks. So I believe that he was always meant to be the villain not by choice, but by force and persuasion. I heavily support Rhaenyra for her claim to the throne, but her actions against Criston Cole and what she did when she was a teenager, i heavily do not agree with or condone her for that. Why? Because she made a huge reckless mistake of endangering someone who was very loyal to her and would’ve done the same things for her and her children. But I do not support, and I do not like Criston Cole because he is a Knight with false honor, and what he believes in his own mind is what’s right for the kingdom and what’s right for himself I did not buy into the first scene when we saw him because from his book counterpart, some of the things remain true about him. I see his actions towards Reynera is coming from a place of spite, bitterness and hatred. It’s not loves, and I honestly believe he should’ve just left the Kings guard after what happened with Rena and when she rejected him if he couldn’t handle it mentally and emotionally then he should’ve just left either to Essos or go to the Night’s Watch.

He is a moron, the Queen of Thorns is behind everything he does. So many hints towards this as well in the books its hard to miss. And if you missed this and think Mace Tyrell was the genius then you just aren't paying attention.

Grrm straight up said the books are written by flawed people, maesters that weren’t alive and wrote it after, or accounts they heard from small folk, while the show is actually following those characters live the story. I think that’s saying, in this specific instance that show cannon beats book cannon every time. Honestly it’s the only way the show has a chance at being good, the book is dry, short of details and no dialogue, so it’s perfect to fill all that stuff in on the show.

I think the structure off the argument doesn't work. It's kinda hes not like that in the books, so he shouldn't be considered as he is portraid in the show. you can critizise the portraid of the carrecter in comperison to the books but not the reactions to the portraid character with the book. In addition aure there is a power imbalance. But that doesn't free him of his personal respawnsabillities. I think that's why he struggles. He knows he broke his oath, he hates himselve for it. He copes by hating Rhaenyra. I think they ruined it a bit when they made him kill somebody at a feast. I can't see how he still has his head and even less why he has the cloak. But they did, which makes him a homicidal mainiac. And I agree that the book character sounds more interesting but that doesn't change how he is in the series.

No, already off to a bad start. I adore Aemond and Otto, yet I hate the greens, and I think that's a common sentiment. People hate Cole because he's self centered (Refuses Rhaenyras proposal to continue their affair under the pretense that the kings guard is all he has to his name, but before that, he asks Rhaenyra to go to essos with him and abandon her name... kinda hypocritical) and he's also fickle. He despises rhaenyra and calls her a spoilt c*nt (remember, he CHOSE to sleep with her, she was 18, he was around 22-31 at the time, GRRM's lore book says he is 16 years older, so he could be as old as 34 at the time shes 18) or something, but in one of the later episodes he says all women are made in the image of the mother (one of the gods) and should be spoken of with reverence, again hypocritical. He beats a guy to death over a proposed alliance of secrecy and gets no repercussions, he kills a member of the council in the presence of the most powerful people and gets no repercussions, it's hinted that he sleeps with Alicent but at the very least loves her, and is basically the embodiment of a white knight (armour and all) or incel. You seem to be relying on the book for evidence, but you have to remember that the whole point of the book is to give unreliable narration, and is supposedly written AFTER the Targaryen rule... by a Maester (aka the people who hate Targaryens and have bias towards the Hightowers)

Often enough the claim for "stuped Ned" is based on him: 1 - not having foresight: failed to predict unthinkable events 2 - not being all knowing: failed to know what everyone was doing, thinking, planning at all times 3 - and primarily not being someone else: failed to not be a Stark. Plus, a concept issue: what means to be stupid?

The end of A Dance with Dragons we hear Mace all puffed up with swollen pride and arrogance trying to gain more control from Kevin. Mace is also not an effective Battle Commander. It's house Tarley that is the main strength of the South. I see Mace running into a battle he can't win in book six because he's headed to face the Golden company, which will soon come down with Grayscale. Eddard had the talk with Cersei while Robert was alive. That means he had the upper hand in that moment and neither Cersei or Tywin could have done anything about it. And then Robert gets gored by a boar and everything goes to shift. Secondly, the whole idea about his honor being at fault is actually a line Littlefinger said in his talk with Eddard. And some readers sucked that strawman hook and sinker, as if it was true. "You wear your honor like a suit of armor, Stark. You think it keeps you safe, but all it does is weigh you down and make it hard to move." Thats just Littlefinger opinion. We never see Eddard behaving like that, like he is some super honorable Stannis type of a character. Yet Tyrion did not have any such problems and what happened to him? What happened to Tywin? The Mountain? Red Viper? How many other players? And after all, is Littlefinger going to win the game? Completely blind to anything else except his own greed? I dont think so.

I think this video and the comments have a lot of good points about Tywins flaw. To me his biggest flaw isn't particularly a character flaw, but rather the "Dynasty" thing. If you look at the books and saw how he felt about about his dad Tytos Lanister, if you look at how he talks about the targaryans and what HE remembers about them vs what arya talked about, if you look at how he treats his family, if you even just look at the characters introduction where he gets immediately defensive towards Jamie about "So the Lion does concern itself with the opinion of the sheep" that seen clearly shows his hypocrisy very clearly cause he's basically just Jamie with the his tussle with ned in the streets, but bigger. Why does he reffer to it as fact? Why is it that when he does it its good, but when Jamie does it its stupid? because he is what the Lannister name will be remembered for and all the decisions he makes are all good. "We are no longer a house to be feared" speaks volumes to it being ALL about how the Lannister name will be remembered. He's obssessed with the Lannisters having a long reign and the security that the Targaryans had. Which is why when Joffrey the actual lowest of the Lannisters tells him that maybe they should worry about the dragons he openly ignores it because the last thing he wants is to lose all the progess they've made, especially by the Dynasty he wants to be better then. TL;DR His greatest flaw is truly that he has an inferiority complex when he compares his political prowess to the Dynasty of the Targaryans, he will do anything to reach the goal of being greater then that Dynasty. Its why he's such a genius who is 3 steps ahead and he will do ANYTHING to get as far as possible as early as possible. Even if it Tortures his children or makes him look like a horrible person/sheep that he pretends he isn't.

But Robert Baratheon did have the strongest claim by blood amongst those who rebelled. That's why they chose him to be king instead of Ned or Jon Arryn. It wasn't the strongest claim compared to the Targarions, but he did have a claim through his grandmother. Yes he claimed the throne by conquest, but he also needed a legitimate blood connection to the throne to make it easier for him to be accepted as king.

I totally agree. The whole idea that Ned was somehow dumb and obviously should have done this or that is so overplayed in the fandom. I think it's just because the viewer has a 360 degree view of everything that's going on and a couple characters refer to him as being too honorable. If you are looking at the events through his perspective he is adequately competent and clever in all his maneuvering. A lot of weird and unfortunate events had to occur in order for him to ultimately end up on the chopping block.
