This is Sooooo easy to verify with a quick Google check. In "certain situations" the water companies are LITERALLY allowed to dump raw sewage into the waterways. They do it willingly, knowingly, intentionally, and with legislative authority.

Since 1989, shareholders of water companies have received up to 900 billion pounds in dividends. The UK urgently needs new reservoirs. The last reservoir was built when it was still under public ownership. The UK is the only country where people pay for the water they use. The money paid to shareholders could have paid for several reservoirs.
