We need a community to respond, we need a community to become informed, and most of all, we need a community to put HIV back on the radar.
Seeing the impact HIV is having on my generation (14-25 year olds), with transmission rates still on the rise; I see it as an issue that we have yet to fully tackle. However, with the fast evolving prevention technology available to us today - we have the tools to slow down and end global HIV Transmission. This film will examine these prevention technologies and the discussion surrounding their use and proper implementation. We need to start the discussion around the future of HIV prevention. We have so many voices out there right now. This film brings them together in a medium that can reach the community.

We are as safe and free as the knowledge we hold. Recent advancements in HIV prevention allow an individual to take one pill a day, Truvada (Emtricitabine / Tenofovir), as a preventative measure against contracting the HIV. Protection rates are up to 99% when taken daily. This treatment is also know as PrEP, Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis. Truvada is one drug that is used in the treatment of individuals who are have contracted HIV. It has been in use since 2004, and was recently approved by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and World Health Organization (WHO), for use as preventative treatment.
This powerful prevention tool is the first step toward ending global HIV transmission. Gilead Sciences, the manufacturer of Truvada, is not marketing the drug for prevention. Their focus is on long term treatment of HIV / AIDS. In a recent interview, Dr. Robert Grant, who led the Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis Initiative (iPrEx) clinical trial, stated that Gilead is not marketing the drug for prevention, because the company feels it should come from the community, providers, and clinical outreach.
When the HIV / AIDS epidemic hit critical mass in the 1980s, it took a community to respond. Thirty some year laters, we have the technologic capabilities to end transmission; what we need is a community response. The first step for a community response is to have a discussion about what prevention means. PrEP is a powerful new tool that has the potential to alter the course of HIV today. There are many forms of protection and prevention. However, with HIV transmission on the rise in select demographics, it seems the current forms of protection and prevention are not working.
Prevention is a personal choice. This film provides a look into the current prevention treatments available today. The current discussions around the efficacy of PrEP have led to a community dialogue with those individuals who are currently on PrEP via their provider or in a clinical trial for PrEP. Opponents to PrEP take issue with the daily adherence to the drug (if not taken daily, the drug proves less effective against HIV). They have also raised ethical concerns regarding the availability of the drug to certain demographics.

This is amazing
I remember watching this in 2012 when I was in my senior year in high school. I was a shy gay kid back then, and I thought I was pretty boring and no one would ever want to talk to me. I didn’t have many friends and many kids don’t respect me much. It was not a easy time for me but I was listening to born this way and I really connected with it. And there was this huge discussion about lgbt and teenage suicide and it gets better project and this video. They made me feel absolutely sure that accepting gay people and accepting yourself is 100% the right thing to do. Thanks for doing this. It means so much and it will always be an important memory for me.

2012 was so weird.
My teacher is the guy that’s giving everyone cocaine murdering them.
I know that this would never happen if somebody in my school tried coming out. Maybe some singular people would support them, but in majority, that person would get hated deeply, probably also bullied and beaten up. But this video makes me dream of something better, dreaming of this beating a reality someday. Thank you for that after all... who the hell cares if you're straight or not if it's about your life? being gay, bisexual, transgender and etc. is not an illness that can be cured or transferred. It's not a reason to hate or harm someone. It's not a problem. The problem is your hate, and it must stop.
I hope each and everyone of these kids have gone on to conquer all that lies in their path and are successful. Stand tall and be proud.

This video is sheer brilliance! I have several gay friends and love them as much as I love my other friends. Some aren't a fan of Lady Gaga but they love this video for what it represents. There's definitely a lot of work and dedication shown. Music Videos despite being happy, cool or sad are extremely difficult to make/film because everything has to be on cue. Wonderful job on the video and for making a website to help people.
