Jazz version of CFE Bach-s rondo espressivo The L.A. Four (or The L.A. 4) was a jazz quartet that performed in Los Angeles California from 1974 to 1982. Its members were guitarist Laurindo Almeida, saxophonist and flutist Bud Shank, bassist Ray Brown, and drummer Shelly Manne, replaced by Jeff Hamilton after 1977. They performed a mixture of straight-ahead jazz on the "cool" side, influenced by...
One of my FAVORITE jazz albums of all time
It's all great every track of the album
dayum this video is old af
A signature cut from a signature LP on Creed Taylor's label (after he sort of created this type of product while producing for A&M a few years earlier)... I believe that this one-two punch from two CTI stalwarts would be Benson's last for the label before he went to Warner Bros. and had his breakthrough Pop success with his next LP. (Remember "This Masquerade?") CTI artists of the early '70's (along with the Crusaders, at the same time, on another label) actually created what would become (watered down and neutered) that most odious of radio-formats, "Smooth Jazz..." ...but this stuff, on CTI at the time, still had TESTICULAR FORTITUDE. The first time I saw the jacket for this LP, I laughed out loud, as it was made to parody a package of a very popular brand of cigs at the time, and if you remember them... ...you are really old.😁
clean and cool make ya feel good
Creed Taylor put together a great Jazz Label back in the late '60's & '70's. CTI was apart of A&M Records until he broke away and formed his own label. Originally, his Guitar Maestro was Wes Montgomery, and after Wes passed George moved into that slot....but equally as talented was the late Eric Gale. This is CLASSIC CTI! My only desire is some company with superb remastering tools can get hold of the Masters and really give each recording the kind of remastering care that's needed.
Dois feras juntos só podia dar em música de qualidade...
One of the great collaborative efforts. Two masters. Timeless music.

I love this album. Thank you for posting this music. Still own this album on vinyl and have played it hundreds of times. Cannot get enough! Benson at his best. On C.T.I. An amazing label for the greatest jazz musicians of our time.
2018
I can hear a lot of Hubert Laws (Chicago Theme) in Joe's excellent performance. Can't you? Wasn't it Farrell and then Laws to CTI? Both were classically trained; weren't they? They were contemporaries - chronologically and musically. Great performance.
Yes but Joe was also a master Reed player. He played all saxes unlike Hubert who was a flautist. Joe also had a very advanced harmonic capabilty. No matter they are were both masters

It's an acquired taste for sure.....and a little over produced maybe but killer none the less...
what do you mean by over produced? that the sound engineer who worked on this recording made it sound too clean?
I still love this recording after all these years!
CTI gotoff to great start with musicians like Farrell, Benson, Frddie Hubbardwas a major score for Creed Taylor. Red Clay was, and continues to be, a mega-hit for a Jazz album. It is, in my opinion, in the all-time 10 best with Kind of Blue (M.Davis).
long time no hear great ! !

I'm truly jealous! What a romantic life you must live amongst these great musician! There is nothing better in life than great wine, food and great music!
It is so nice of you to share this magical music! I was new to the L.A region upon my return from my life in Brasil. These were one of my first and favorite musician in Los Angeles in the 70's. I've been looking for their music for decades! Thank you ever so much for bringing this music back to my ears! Laurindo Almeida, Ray Brown. . . .married to Ella Fitzgerald? Wow! Thanks for the additional trivia!
Great song. It's rare to hear Eric Gale backing up George Benson. Probably the first and last time they were ever on an album together.
uno de los mejores discos sin ninguna duda que maravilla.

I have an opened but Mint condition copy of this album...my school gave away all of its vinyls and this was one. They used to have them in the library, but none of them were ever played because of some snafu with the school office. So yeah....I have a lot of these kinda things, never played...until now! any idea what this would be worth?
blowing my mind
I recently bought this album from a store down the street from me for 99 cents. The whole album, including this tune, is amazing The store owner obviously has no idea what he's doing, and quite honestly, i hope that nothing about that changes :D
ahah!
Yes wore out 2 of these albums lol Finally bought the CD and wore that out! Someone actually thought this album was lame ha ha h aha ha
Amazing!
MLF is the boss!
@MAGIK5476 he is very underrated cause he focus on his music and not on fame, and that's great :D
