FlossTube #26: 3 New Starts (1 is HUGE!), a Finish, 4 FFOs…Whew! What a Week 😀
FULLY FINISHED OBJECTS (FFOs)
1. Birth Record for my youngest son. This was a kit but I don’t know the kit name or designer.
2. Laundry Room by Imaginating. The chart calls for 14 ct. Aida and DMC floss. I stitched it 2 over 1 on 14 ct. Fiddler’s Cloth using called for DMC floss. Stitch count is 149W x 72H.
3. Crazy Cat Lady by Heritage Crafts, designed by Susan Ryder (kit). I purchased this as a kit from the UK but the pattern can now be purchased from 123Stitch.com.
4. Fishers of Men pattern in the Designs by Gloria and Pat Precious Moments Sew in Love booklet (PM-2). I stitched it on 14 ct. Cream? Aida using called for DMC floss. This is still available on the secondary market.
FINISHES
1. Create Every Day (Nashville 2020 Freebie by Teresa Kogut). This was stitched 1 over 2 on 40 count White linen by Zweigart using DMC.
NEW STARTS
1. Needle and Thread by Brenda Gervais. The chart calls for 36 ct. Mello linen by Picture This Plus and Weeks Dye Works, Gentle Arts Sampler, and Classic Colorworks floss. I’m stitching it 1 over 2 on 36 ct. Cream linen by Zweigart and at this point I’m using all of the called for floss. That may change in the future if a floss doesn’t appear as it should on the fabric I’ve selected. Stitch count is 201W x 112H.
2. Tulip Fields Pinkeep by Stacy Nash (Nashville Market 2024 release). The chart calls for 36 ct Beige linen by Weeks Dye Works and Weeks Dye Works threads. I’m stitching it 1 over 2 on 36 ct. Finn’s Fence by Seraphim Fabrics using some of the called for thread and some DMC substitutions for 2 reasons: (1) I don’t have some of the called for overdyed floss in my stash and (2) the color of some of the called for overdyed floss don’t match the picture on the chart.
3. Let Love Reign by Teresa Kogut. The chart calls for 40 ct. Grandma’s Slip linen by xjuDesign and DMC and Weeks Dyeworks floss. I’m stitching it 1 over 2 on 36 ct. Antique Lace by Seraphim Fabrics (fat half) using the called for floss. The stitch count is 294W x 390H.
HAUL
1. Yarn bowl
2. Yarn cake winder by Knit Picks
3. Dream chart by Mill Hill
4. 28 ct. Nordic Blue fabric for the Dream chart by Mill Hill
5. Beads for the Dream chart by Mill Hill

      Hi again Carroll! I’m glad to provide some inspiration! As you can see it has taken me 30+ years to frame one of those pieces and another one was almost 30! Some of the others were less. I hope you’ve had some fun stitching time lately! 😀

    Just a tip about the yarn bowl- make sure that the wood in the swirl that you pull the yarn through is smooth, otherwise it will fray your yarn. I just used a fine sandpaper on mine to smooth the wood.

    • @everydaystitcher
      @everydaystitcher Před měsícem

      Hi there Joy! Thank you so much for leaving the comment. I did check and although the bowl was amazingly smooth the swirl definitely needed some sanding. I hope you’re having some great stitching time this week so far!

    So I’m doing Manning May I finished a Carolyn Manning one of the quilt series it’s called garden maze it’s beautiful and I started another one called bountiful blooms . I’m taking it up to my trailer so I can leave it there so on the weekends or anytime during the week that we run up there I don’t have to pack up I project, It’s already waiting for me. Love your walk down memory lane showing old stitches. If I had a floss tube, I would have to do the same since I’m pretty much do one piece at a time. But I have so many oldies, I’ve been stitching for so many years that I could fill up a couple of years worth of videos. Especially if I show needlepoint cruel embroidery that sort of thing . looking forward to seeing your next video.

      You are right! There is an incredible amount of backstitching in the Crazy Cat Lady design. When I stitched it, I thought every cross stitch design had backstitching! I was so surprised many years later in Spring, 2022 to discover cross stitch patterns with no backstitch at all! Happy stitching!!

    Hi Sharon - I believe your son's birth announcement was a Leisure Arts pattern, I remember seeing it in a leaflet I used to have! I stitched my mom so many Precious Moments Pictures and even an afghan that she had over the back of her couch with the squares you cross stitched and then fringed when done stitching. It was the pattern Prayer Changes Things, 6 strands of floss. I got it back after she passed and keep it over a chair in my craft room. Really enjoyed seeing your FFO's. Glad you got them finished after all these years! I am doing a HAED called War Pony who somewhat resembles my horse pictured in my thumbnail. It is kind of overwhelming to do such a huge full coverage piece, but I only stitch one project at a time, but to change it up I will throw in a few smalls along my way! I just finished the Teresa Kogut Create freebie on my teal colored mesh project bag and I used most of the colorway you did on yours! Great flosstube! Your Let Love Reign will be stunning! You may already know this but in case you don't The Silver Needle in Tulsa OK has an enormous offering of all things Mill Hill!

      Hi Lori, it’s amazing that you remember seeing the birth announcement in a Leisure Arts leaflet! And I’m in awe of your ability to stitch your War Pony full coverage monogamously with only some smalls thrown in here or there. I used to be a monogamous stitcher but I do remember getting bored stitching on the same thing all the time. And congrats on getting the Teresa Kogut freebie finished. I bet it looks great on that teal mesh bag! Thanks for sharing info on the Silver Needle…I had no idea. I’ll have to check it out. I hope you have a great stitchy week 😀

    P.S The 'cake maker' is generally known as a 'ball winder'...and it's helpful -- if you're winding skeins -- to use a swift to hold the skein as you feed the end of the yarn into the winder. A swift rather resembles a spoked wheel. KnitPicks sells them pretty reasonably priced so you might check that out. It's easier thatn looping your open skein around the legs of a chair! Just a thought...

    I used to work p/t at an LYS (Local Yarn Shop) that carried some cross-stitch supplies. It carried those Peter Undershill patterns -- "Man Cave" (which I bought and stitched for my neighbour, who is a handy kinda guy) and "Crazy Cat Lady". The owner closed her brick-and-mortar shop some years ago and took it online; she's now retired from that too. But she's a friend, and so I've asked her if she still has the CCL in her possession and would sell it to me (pattern only, as I recall). And...Precious Moments! I only ever stitched one of them -- the 'Graduation' piece -- but I stitched it twice -- for each of the two babysitters I put through high school (😉😆). Both are in their late fifties now (hard to imagine, but then again, my kids are 39 and 43!). Ah...those were the days!

      Hi Margaret, for those of us who have a long stitching history one or both of those charts are probably very familiar (I think everyone is familiar with Precious Moments. My aunt used to collect the porcelain figurines!) Did you ever stitch the CCL? And on the graduation Precious Moments, I’m totally familiar with that chart. I’m sure both of your babysitters appreciated the gifts…how thoughtful! Have a great stitchy week!!

      @everydaystitcher Před 2 měsíci

      Hi there Dodie! Actually I find there are many instances where the picture on the chart does accurately show how the stitched item with the called for floss will look. Let Love Reign is a good example of that (and the most recent!). If all pictures were not accurate, I would be making substitutions on everything I stitch!! Fortunately I haven’t had to do that…hooray! I hope you have a wonderful stitchy week 😀

    Hi Sharron. I loved seeing your "old" finishes. Boy, did they take me right back to the 80's/90's! The Let Love Reign is going to be beautiful when finished. I wish that I could keep my "huge" pieces to 2 at a time! My problem is that I gravitate towards large projects so I have more than I care to admit currently in progress:) To add another to the list, I'm getting ready to start Liberty's Welcome by Plum Street on Memorial Day to join in the Hollis Hand Creates SAL. This one is supposed to be finished by Labor Day, so maybe it will help me actually finish a large project instead of just starting them🙄🤣 Hope that you have a great week:) Happy Stitching!

      @everydaystitcher Před 2 měsíci

      Hi there Inez! I had to laugh at your comment about not being able to limit your huge projects to 2 at a time!! Since I’ve caught the new start bug, I may not be able to do that either!! 😊 Good luck on the SAL you’ll be starting on Memorial Day. I have never heard of that chart and did search for it to see it. It is absolutely gorgeous!!! And really right up my patriotic alley if you know what I mean. I’ve not seen anyone stitch it. I’ll have to take a look at Hollis Hands Creates’ FlossTubes to watch the progress in that and see it up close after the SAL starts. Have a great stitchy week!!

And the one to the right of Home of a Needleworker (in the gold frame) is Regina Haible by With Thy Needle and Thread. I hope these are the ones you were asking about. And you could definitely send me a pic of your finished piece to my email, it’s EveryDayStitcher@gmail.com. I usually include that in my description box but see that I totally forgot to include it in my latest video. I’ll have to fix that! I hope you have a great stitchy week! P.S. there’s a playlist of all my videos since i started last July if you would want to watch from the beginning…just an FYI. The playlist is brand new. I just created it because some viewers were wanting to ‘catch up’ watching part videos and I thought that might make it easier.

    Having watched a few of your current (May 2024) floss tubes, I'm now back-tracking and catching up. I loved that one of your WIPs was "Nevermore". I did that one for my nephew and his bride (she has a 'Goth' esthetic) for their wedding gift. I couldn't get 'Slug Bug' from my LNS, so I used the DMC substitute -- DMC 4000. Worked a treat -- and that "snowflake" motif looked wonderful with it. 😊

      Hi again Margaret! I went out and took a look at DMC 4000. What a great substitute for Slugbug. I’m going to have to educate myself a bit more on the other thread options available from DMC. I may be missing out! 😊. Have a great stitchy week!

    Moe Kitty! I loved the longer visit. He's a sweetie. Boy, I'm really slow. I've seen that Silver Creek Samplers chart before, but it never clicked with me that it's supposed to be Mr. Rogers! Can't wait to see your finish.

    Okay. Now I *know* we're kindred stitchers! I have "Fred's Unifying Question" all kitted -- and yet haven't started it...but seeing as you now *have*, well! I'll just have to get mine out and start it! Consider this a long-distance mini-kal (no hashtag, please; I'm not on Instagram). 😀❤ Note: being Canadian, I'll be figuring out how to add a 'u' to "neighbor"...just sayin'! 😉 Now...about that piece by Jeannette: I used to do office work for her (almost 20 years ago now!) when I lived in Calgary, Alberta -- where she still lives. We have remained fond acquaintances and I've stitched several of her pieces (I'm working on "Ann Perrin 1841 as I watch this flosstube). She's of Dutch heritage, so I'm not surprised to see she's reproduced that lovely sampler. She's only started doing reproductions in the last couple of years. Check out her designs at www.jeannettedouglas.ca/ I think you'll love them! (And yes; Jeannette's very fond of pieces with specialty stitches!)

    I think your hand-dyeing experiment went very well. Hand-dyes are *very* different than commercially dyed fabrics -- and yours turned out well. Adding vinegar is for acid dyeing for silk and wool; the salt enanbles plant fibres (like linen and cotton) to absorb the dye better. Your snow piece is going to be lovely. (I live in Canada -- up in central Alberta -- say, a day's drive north from the border with Montana -- so yeah; we know from snow up here!)

      Hi again Margaret, thank you for the kind comment. I lived most of my life in Virginia Beach, VA in the mid-Atlantic seaboard of the US. We were lucky if we saw snow every few years so I love seeing it. One of my favorite things is to watch snow fall. I think it’s just so peaceful and beautiful. Wow, you must see a bunch of snow and I couldn’t imagine the cold temperatures that you experience!

    P.S. Isn't that "Mary 395" from HATS framed behind you? That thing is *huge*! Sarah of 'Sarah's Stitchy Spot' flosstube has just finished it. It came across as the size of a crib blanket when she showed it. Can you say more about your work on that piece -- size and how long it took you? Just curious! Thanks!

    • @everydaystitcher
      @everydaystitcher Před 2 měsíci

      Hi Margaret, here’s my details on Mary 395. I started her on 5-26-22 and finished on 10-11-23 and I stitched on her at least once every week. She’s stitched on 36 ct Vintage Country Mocha by Zweigart using DMC 3777. The stitched area ended up being 21 inches by 22 inches. I ended up framing her in a 23 inch x 25 inch frame from Amazon. I love having a red sampler always going. I’m working on another one right now!

    Just found you and I'm happy I did so. I'm tired of "haul-heavy" floss tubes. You're talking about your work -- in all crafts -- and leaving a *small* segment for 'haul' is refreshing. I love the samplers you discussed -- a couple of them are huge (in my books). I don't crochet much (I can do granny squares if they don't have to be the same size) but I've been a knitter for almost 65 years. "DK" = Double Knit. About 21-22 sts per inch for knitters (no idea for crochet). Crocheting takes a lot more yarn than knitting -- due to the fact that except for chain stitch, the crochet stitches individually take more yarn than loops of knit stitches. I think your granny square blanket is *gorgeous* and congratulate you on it. Nothing I could ever do! Again, it's refreshing to hear someone focus on process more than on product consumption. Thanks! I look forward to another flosstube. P.S. Writing from Canada; very concerned about you all as our neighbours. Just a thought. Take care.

      Hello there Margaret!! I’m so glad you found me too and that you’re enjoying what you’re seeing on my channel. 😊 I love this hobby of ours and I hope that comes through. I do admire that you’re a knitter. I’m amazed when I see people knit without looking at their needles - that is fascinating to me. Are you one of those knitters? I do aspire to be one. I just picked up knitting a short time ago and have only done a wash cloth and scarf so far but I am looking at patterns so I can try to do a larger project. And it’s kind of you to be concerned about your US neighbors. Everyone in the US just needs to vote! I’m hoping that after the election there’s something done that requires fact checking and balanced reporting like in the days when I was growing up or as a young adult. There’s other things to be done too of course but I just believe in being truthful and doing the right thing. I hope you’re having a great stitchy weekend!

    • @everydaystitcher
      @everydaystitcher Před 2 měsíci

      I absolutely think you should give fabric dyeing a try. It took me a couple of months before I tried it with the fabric and liquid dye just sitting in the small dishpan I purchased from Walmart all that time. I also use the same container for other things too like hand washing clothing etc. so it’s dual purpose. My next thing to try is to coffee/tea dye some fabric. I bought some pink linen by Zweigart for a project and I need to tone down the pink and make it look aged. Good luck! Let me know how it goes for you! I hope you’re having a great stitchy weekend 😀

      I’m pretty excited about attempting another full coverage stitch. So far, I’ve enjoyed it. I hope that continues 🤞. First day of granddaughter visit was fun. She was very cranky but that’s ok. It was just fun to be around her and hold her, etc. They don’t stay little forever and although she’s not my first grandchild it is the first time that I’ve been able to spend a fair amount of time with any grandchild as a young baby (I always lived in a different state before). Just trying to enjoy every moment and it also gives me time to spend with my youngest son so it’s doubly good 😊. I hope you’re having a great stitchy week!

    Enjoy your time with your granddaughter! She sounds precious. I think you should do the quilt block. I am going to be starting American Welcome on Memorial Day. Cyndi the Scrappy Stitcher is going to be hosting a stitch a long, and she said everyone will be welcome. She has a youtube channel and also an instagram. I love audiobooks while I stitch, but I have to listen to them at 2X speed. That distorts the narrator's voice a little, but it works for me and I'm able to keep my attention on it. Maybe that would help if you are distracted by the slow narration. Have a great week!

      Hi there Amy! Thanks for letting me know about the stitch along. I’ll have to check out Cyndi the Scrappy Stitcher. I haven’t done a stitch along yet because I’m not sure that I would be able to follow through on the commitment. I usually stitch whatever calls out to me in the moment. I’m probably more like a stitcher who does a start along rather than a stitch along…so maybe I’ll just start it on Memorial Day!?!?!! Hmmmmm…that might be fun! And thanks so much for the tip on the audio books. That actually may really help! I’ve been an avid reader most of my life until cross stitch became a renewed passion. I’m going to definitely try it because I have soooo many books I’d like to read. Happy stitching! 😀
