I learned from my dad, but a free diving course is a great learning experience! The key is to dive often and work on your technique!
What cameras are you guys using to film these so clear and cinematic.
All of the 1st person footage is shot on GoPros, and I have a Sony A7III with an underwater housing for the cinematic underwater footage! The drone footage is with a Mavic 3 classic.
Also curious how deep you are diving, and how long you are holding your breath, on average? 🙏
On this trip, we dove anywhere from 20 to 60 feet. Most of the dives are between a 1:00 and 1:45
Great content, I am a new spearo and loving these videos. I'm curious why you use a pole spear rather than a regular gun. Isn't a regular gun more reliable with fish this big?
Guns are more reliable, shoot further, and are much easier to shoot than pole spears, but in the Bahamas, they are illegal. You can only use primitive spearfishing methods in the Bahamas, which is a unique challenge!

I think it depends on where you fish most of the time. Where I fish (lower Laguna Madre in far South Texas) is extremely shallow. You can fish a traditional bay boat but you won’t be able to get in and out a lot of areas. Most guides down there run flats boats.
Absolutely, if you need to get super shallow, a Flats Boat or skiff is the way to go!

For me the biggest difference is if you prefer sitting or standing while driving
That’s a big difference! My Hewes has an adjustable helm that helps when I feel like standing but you can’t beat a leaning post!
