Hi my name is Jeff, A.K.A. "Welder Man Jeff". I have been a welder for most of my life, 40 years of welding experience actually, wow...40 years! I have taught welding for 13 years in a high school setting and most recently I have been teaching welding at our local community college. I have experience in SMAW (shielded metal arc ) welding, GMAW (gas metal arc ) welding, FCAW (flux core arc ) welding, OFX (oxygen acetylene welding and cutting) PAC (plasma arc cutting) and MIG (metal inert gas) welding. I've loved welding ever since I took my first welding class in my freshman year of high school. I've managed to earn a decent living welding and have had the opportunity to share my knowledge and love of welding to many students throughout the years. I hope to continue to share my knowledge to others on the "online world" and encourage an interest in a fun and rewarding career in welding.

Other than the background noise, this is a great subject that's not stressed enough on most videos. Prep makes all the difference in the weld appearance and probably the quality of the weld. Thanks for the video.

Ah, the sound is a bit tricky in a shop, too much echo and not great recording equipment either! 😏
What about new iron from the steel yard? After sanding it with the angle grinder do zi need to wipe it off with something to get oils off. I’m weldiing new iron and set welder to settings on side but it just throws splatter . I raised and lowered heat and changed wire speed. My ground is on fresh ground bare metal. I can tell when the wite speed is too fast as it wants to push the gun away from the metal. Too slow it just hisses on the metal and won’t get going. Thanks
