Patching Physical Objects
Personal fabrication is currently a one-way process: Once an object has been fabricated with a 3D printer, it cannot be changed anymore; any change requires printing a new version from scratch. In this paper, we propose a different approach: instead of re-printing the entire object from scratch, we suggest patching the existing object and replacing only the unsatisfactory parts. This saves material and reduces waste, making a first step towards more sustainable 3D printing.
This project is a collaboration between Hasso Plattner Institute and Cornell University.

sign up at: bit.ly/uistcontest2015 For 2015, the UIST Student Innovation Contest takes on a cause. Schools and museums are starting to offer experimental Animatronics classes where kids build furry robotic animals and use them to tell amazing stories. These courses blur traditional lines - between art and engineering, between the virtual and physical worlds - all while demonstrating the univers...
Low-fidelity Fabrication: Fast Fabrication of 3D Objects
zhlédnutí 1,1KPřed 9 lety
Low-fidelity fabrication systems speed up rapid prototyping by printing intermediate versions of a prototype as fast, low-fidelity previews. Only the final version is fabricated as a full high-fidelity 3D print. This allows designers to iterate more quickly-achieving a better design in less time. Depending on what is currently being tested, low-fidelity fabrication is implemented in different w...
Scotty: Teleporting Physical Objects
zhlédnutí 396KPřed 9 lety
Scotty allows teleporting inanimate physical objects across distance. Each Scotty unit consists of an off-the-shelf 3D printer that we have extended with a 3-axis milling machine, a camera, and a microcontroller for encryption/decryption and transmission. Users place an object into the sender unit, enter the address of a receiver unit, and press the teleport button. The sender unit now digitize...

WirePrint is a low-fi fabrication technique that prints 3D models as wireframe previews. By extruding filament directly into 3D space instead of printing layer-wise, we achieve a speed-up of up to 10x compared to traditional 3D printing. This project is a collaboration between Hasso Plattner Institute and Cornell University. More Information: www.hpi.uni-potsdam.de/baudisch/projects/wireprint.h...

Daaaaaamn the clear hoses to a 3dp air diffuser is pretty dang smart. Reducing head weight prob increasing air volume by multiples and really getting your aim on while maintaining cearances and agility. Do you just have your hoses piped to a few squirrel cage style blower fans?

has anyone use software called paprika? is is for building 3d customs and paper 3d objects. i us my laser to cut the origami layout with bend and glue lines lust like this is doing. i then used projection plastic like what you use on an old overhead projector instead of paper make a very strong useful object in 3d then used body putty to finish off the part was very fast and made large parts quickly.
