No well-managed game project gets delayed 3+ times for 4+ years. Anyone who thinks Hytale is well-managed is head deep in copium. However, you don't present strong evidence for your conclusion that Hytale is overmanaged. Hypixel Studio has their full team listed on their site. In your follow up video, you only investigate the job openings, and not the held positions. I decided to count current engineers and compare it to current engineering leads. My count came to about 20 Engineers to 6 Engineer Leads. That's about 4 Engineers per Engineer Lead. This is proof of overhiring. For context, the average engineering team size on game projects is 10 engineers per lead. I can't give your videos a like because you made me do the research myself. I don't think Simon left due to "burnout." Because why would he get burned out of a brand new game with new ideas, but not be burned out from managing the same Minecraft server for a decade+? It's much more likely Simon left over some internal disagreement about the direction of the game. Or a reason more scandalous. This is not how game development works. It's very common in game development to hit roadblocks or setbacks. If a game hits an unusual amount of roadblocks or setbacks, it will take longer without becoming better. The engine rewrite is one of the biggest possible setbacks confirmed. And this setback could have been made much smaller if they made the decision to change engine much earlier. They are spending a lot of time remaking systems in the new engine that were functional in the old engine. I tend to find the "patient" fans end up turning into the most toxic haters, because they have the highest expectations. For example, I would've been happy if Hytale released in 2022 as a buggy mess, that's what a beta is for. But "patient" fans will say "It's good they are taking their time so it doesn't launch as a buggy mess" So imagine what happens if Hytale releases in 2027 and is a buggy mess. It's patient fans, not me, who will become the haters. Anyways, yeah the project is experiencing huge issues. I still hope it turns out well for them in the end. But I've diverted my mental energy mostly away from Hytale and content creation, and have instead pivoted into game development myself.
