Mueng Ngoi is a beautiful village on the Nam Ou river in Laos, about 40 minutes by boat north of Nong Khiaw. The village offers spectacular views both above and below ground. Lao Plain of Jars 2023

In May 2023 we visited the amazing Plain of Jars near Phonsavan in Laos. These stone jars scattered across the plateau of Phosavan date back to c.1000 B.C. Their purpose remains a mystery although most likely related to funeral rites. The people who built them left no other traces of their civilization.

August is probably the wettest month. Best avoided. September/October is better and great festivals at that time (boat race/fire boats)

The smaller villages have a long way to go. The poverty rates are still very high. But the traditional way of life makes Laos unique and beautiful.
