Follow the process of turning a run down and beat up old E30 baur into a modern Ute
HUGE E30 Brake Upgrade Ep.37
The last real hurdle to get all the brakes working on the E30 M3 Ute is mounting the rear calipers and getting the factory handbrake to work.
The next step is to get everything machined up and bolted onto the car.

I’ve been out at sea without youtube for a month so i’m catching up on all your videos since! I just realized this is where the TShirt came from!!!! I’m so sorry but it’s been busy (but fun!) with that job and no fast internet at sea haha. Thanks for call-out; but honestly, you are truly an inspiration and I hope your channel grows! It deserves a LARGE audience! It’s criminally underrated!!!!!! Also of note, it’s because of this channel I started to work on my own car bit by bit! Ya it’s no sweet Ute E30, but an old A3 hatch that is very sentimental to me (drove off from wedding with wife with it, endless roadtrips, etc). So THANK YOU!
Love the kind words! The channel will grow it’s just a matter of time. Glad to hear a car is getting some love because of me as well
How has this car been built in Australia and the videos never popped up for me. Liked and subbed mate ✌️
Gotta hit the algorithm just right, glad the builds finally found you!!
Pretty sure i saw JimmyOakes wearing one of your tee's recently??
You sure did, he’s worn my tshirt a couple of times recently!
@@blacknightcreations thats dope man! I full paused it to double check. Keep pushing on mang youre doing an awesome job!
Keep an eye out for next submail as well, hopefully Jimmy like the crab car design as much as I do. Cheers for the support!
⭐Niice⭐
Thanks for stopping by during the live streams!
Holy crab, I won a flag! 🎉 I was also looking into upgrading the rear brakes on my E36 compact, but your solution is a bit overkill for my little M42 engined car 😁 What size wheels do you need to fit over these brakes?
Not sure about the rears yet, but I would say at least 18s
Awesome stuff today, seriously love the customise to feel like it's OEM build
That’s always been the goal, as many BMW parts to keep the car somewhat OEM
Great to see you are getting there. Hi from Prague.
Prague is such a nice city! Thanks for the support
3:30 am I may as well watch the new video . Sleep is over rated
I got it out as fast as I could, just to try and keep you up till 3:30am
@@blacknightcreations I woke up at 3:30 and looked and it was there so I’ve been awake since so going to be a long day
Hoowee that is a very long day
hi lewis cut the aluminium dust cover to suite use panel bond to bond it to the steel cover and put half dozen 4mm diameter pop rivets with the 12mm head on it as well do the rivets while the panel bond is still wet wipe off the excess cheers glenn
My plan was to weld some tabs back onto the steel inner and do basically what you’ve recommended
@@blacknightcreations that will work too i have to wait another month for the engineer to inspect my bmw so i might start getting my r31 skyline project ready
@glennarnold3970 anything fancy about the r31?
@@blacknightcreations i was going to just restore it but the race car glenn wants to put an rb25 in it and paint it in the peter jackson colour scheme 😁😂
Still watching the video, but why didn't you use a trailing arm from an E30? E36 compact is much wider, pushing the rotor further out. I can't remember how much difference it is, but Google can answer that. Just use a hub from an E9x LCI or E85/6 Z4, if my memory serves me correct. I think E30 M3 hubs would also work, but I believe they are more expensive.
And also, why didn't you turn the caliper adapter the other way round? Wouldn't it be better to get the unsprung weight of the caliper further down to the ground?
The E36 trailing arms really work with the M3 rear quarters and the M2C rims, I know there are a lot of different options I’ve tried to juggle a lot of factors at a time and this is what I’ve settled on
The direction of the forward turning wheel to don’t want extra leverage on the bracket
Smash that like button my dude
Please do, I really appreciate it!
Awesome Luis All your research has paid off
It’s all coming together! Can’t wait to use the brakes for the first time.
Don't forget to add a proportioning valve to dial in the front bias
The whole setup is from and M4 including the booster and master cylinder. I’ll try it without first and then add one if I need
@@blacknightcreations you were saying much bigger than stock so most likely will be needed I had a VW caddy pick-up that I put Leon 1.8t brakes on and it locked up the rears until I added a valve at least is an easy add later and cheap in the scheme of things
Excellent progress. Best build on CZcams. England absorbed by your phenomenal skill set. 🇬🇧❤
Thanks for the continued support!
3 minutes in and already learnt alot! Best up and coming Cartuber!
God damn thanks man!
U got ripped off
Brother wear spats over your Volleys 😊
Hahaha yeah I keep meaning to buy set
Looked like peeling off all those layers of paint would be pretty satisfying!! Can’t wait to see the next update 😊
Sure was! Super happy with how clean the door is
Flag this comment Lewis. I would like a flag please :)
Your in the running, keep an eye out for the next episode
I think this video has convinced me to buy a purple tag that has already been rebuilt and tested hahaha
Haha that’s definitely fair, glad it could help you come to that decision
$2500 for a non runner with 270000+ kms u got scammed.
Nah I didn’t, it was a great car
@@blacknightcreations I bought a vz sv6 sedan for 1500 with rego and rwc
@RecklessHS sedans are always cheaper than Ute
Cool video bro.
It was a pretty good video but I think I’ve done better, the editing style is pretty much the same though
What a lot of fiddly work to get the paint off.
The paint removal was a megajob. Well done!
Flag, I am enjoying this build no end, can't wait for the running and driving version. Come on workshop Lewis crack on!!
I think workshop Lewis is getting back into his groove, big steps ahead
I can't wait for the test drive either.
Flag .......I have a space for it ready Luis 😊😊😊😊
Just keep an eye out for the next video!
It's coming along really well I've wanted to do something like this for years as car/utes are super rare here in Ireland just undecided on the platforms@@blacknightcreations
Flag bro i love the way you work on that mute it is nice to see how you do all the work
Thanks! Always good to hear people enjoy the editing style.
Flag 🎉 As always, a pleasure watching you work. Keep on going!!! Best regards from Germany 🇩🇪
Thanks! Hopefully this is the last hard to find m3 panel.
a little tip with paint stripper lewis put it on then put glad wrap over it for an hour stops the stripper venting and drying out and most times 1 coat takes most off back to metal cheers glenn
I’ve done that on previous panels but I was being impatient with this one, I didn’t think the stripper would have gotten through all 7 layers of paint so as soon as I saw it was bubbled up I just started scraping and reapplied. I’ll make sure I have some glad wrap on hand for the next panel
@@blacknightcreations i meant to say also when you put your door on the panel stand facing down put the door long ways not crossways like you did there is less chance on putting line dents in the door sitting longways puts more surface area on the door skin i do this to all doors bonnets and tailgates even roof skins when prepping cheers glenn
@glennarnold3970 yeah that’s definitely something I’ll keep an eye on in the future, I don’t want to cause more dents, cheers
Flag it's amazing to see the project grows.
Flag me down, I'm McLovin it!
Flag me down for one of your flags! Have been following your build since the start, great series!
Thanks! It’s always great to hear people have been watching from the start and stuck around
FLAG - Hallett Cove easy drop off Later 😁
It’ll be drawn by random but I’ll keep my fingers crossed you win
I know this vid is old But did you need the glove box catches? Pretty sure i have some somewhere
I did buy one at one stage but this car is now up for sale to fund the E30
@@blacknightcreations I did not expect a happy Gilmore reference for fuel injectors
Ah. The venerable hfv6.. how i know you...
Flag Hey Louis, cool build Texas guy here let me know if you want me to check on something
Yeah sweet, as in parts?
@@blacknightcreations yes sir more specifically I'm in the North DFW area
I’ll definitely keep that in mind, some parts are way easier to find and cheaper over there, thanks!
Wish I could find doors for my avenger
I was looking for 7-8months, just keep watching marketplace and they’ll come up
FLAG!
Flag 🇬🇧 been watching from the beginning always look forward to the next episode dropping. You always motivate me into keep going on my own project. Sick!
I love seeing comments like this. What’s your project?
@@blacknightcreations 1.8t conversion in a mk 3 caddy. The wiring is the headache. 👍 most of the pipe work is now prepped ready for me to weld. Keep up the great work
@jasonball171 nice my dad owns a mk2 caddy I believe. Ohh I’m definitely getting help to do my wiring.
Flag . Good work man. Your build is something that’s put you to the ultimate test of rock lifting. Also a tip for stripping paint is to put plastic over the panel to keep all the fumes on the paint that make it work 10times better
It sure is! I have done the plastic wrap for parts previously, I didn’t have any plastic hanging around and wasn’t waiting long enough this time. It was very strong smelling though.
Flag doing great job from Ireland
Hell yes, love seeing how far away people are watching from
🇬🇧 Yes Lewis. U.K. truly enjoying your effort and best build. So pleased on getting your M3 door. You truly deserve this.
Thanks! Glad I can just start finishing the car
Flag! Been waiting for this to drop! Love this project!
There’s been a lot of looking for parts and sorting out some life stuff. More episodes coming very soon
Flag you down for ride in that awesome UTE....MUTE....Salute you for the content!
I can’t wait for the first ride! Thanks for the support!
Flag ..this project is maaaad
The more I build it the more I agree
Flag 🇦🇺. Pro tip. Run the face of the door along the rails of the stand to avoid further dents and distortion from working on the inside of the door.
Ohhh yeah of course that makes sense, I’ll think about how I’m putting the panel on the stand from now on
Flag! Love this project oh wise and generous 😉 Lewis!
Hahahah thank you! Office Lewis was the generous one this time
FLAG! NEW PARTS!!!!! yes!
36 year old new parts!!!
Wouldn't have been easier and much cheaper to shave the bit on the doors where the trim sits that came with the car?
Of course but then it wouldn’t be an M3 Ute would it now?
Flag, really appreciate your project. All the best from Ontario Canada. 👍🏻
I do love seeing how far away people are watching from!
