Yamaha FJ1200 Sprocket Change to Go Faster
zhlédnutí 441Před měsícem
New swingarm chain and sprockets. A long over due upgrade for the bike. I wanted to improve the acceleration response so reduced the gear ratio. Huge improvement but this mod may not be suitable for everyone.
Fitting an R1 Seat on to an FJ12
zhlédnutí 654Před měsícem
The FJ seat looks like a big comfortable cushion but the swoop up to the tank means your balls are being crushed while riding. The hard and flat R1 seat is so much more comfortable and allows you to maneuver your body position around quickly when riding fast in the twistys

They dont like the cold! I take the FJ out once or twice a week which should be enough to keep it happy but no. It difficult to get started everytime. I love the FJ its all good character but it certainly aint no getaway bike.

FJ1200 Standard Cans vs Emgo Drag Pipes. Sound and Performance
zhlédnutí 6KPřed rokem
The video audio doesn't do the sound justice. Better in real life. The standard cans sound good but are overly heavy and dominate the bike due to the large size of them. Emgos sound great and make a huge weight saving. Im still trying to find the perfect tune set up for the carburetors.

0:26 you what mate? You paid 1,900 quid, in japan thats yen? Must be as 1,900 quid. Maybe i misheard. Mine cost me about 200 quid and im in poland (moved from the uk 4 years ago)
I had exactly the same problem on my 84 FJ1100 ! I followed your video and it's fixed ! Saved me just buying a new starter motor. I wouldn't have had the confidence to do it without your video. Huge thanks 😁👍
Numbers one motor
Did the same thing on my 05 Yamaha R1 with changing the gear ratio. I didn't like the low-end speed with the stock gear. BTW, nice 99 R1 in the other video!
Bent the number plate up cause I'm a bad-ass. Mint 👌 🤣😂🤣
Do you have any social medias to follow to see more of the fj?
No I try to avoid social media. I do want to make more videos tho just for youtube
Thanks for the reply! Fixing up and riding a fj and really like yours
Mate I've had my 99 R1 same as yours 😊 Had her since 99. She's now 25 & I'm 64 years old Lucky lucky me 😀😀 25 years of happy funn 😂😂😂😂 Still riding I have no need to change 😊😊😊 Enjoy yours Ride hard Ride safe 190 rear is standard But if you wish for her to turn tighter in the corners Fit a 180 on the rear She will tern a lot sharper 😊 Ya speedo she as standard switch from miles to kilometers trip it 😂
Congrats! This bike is the best. Im about to make a 3 year ownership video. All good news
Looks good 😎 I just have gaiters on mine. I had a nice looking fj12 before the accident last September. So took off the damaged fairing and more or less what you have done apart from instead of a nice looking caff racer look. I have gone for the rat/survival look. Great channel!
You have the upgraded 4 brush starter motor found in the fjr1300 much stronger than the stock 2 brush fj1200.
Functionality? Probably not. Cool factor? totally! Looks mean!
Alô Can I exchange the R1 98 body for one from the R1 2002?
You answered your own problem ‘say you’re going a bit too fast for a corner’. Anticipate, read the road and make the necessary adjustments and avoid ‘reacting’ (in this case - trail braking) I know I’ll never change the trail braking brigades minds, but if you’re riding correctly, you shouldn’t need it.
True. Although the mountain roads out here are very twisty and I have been surprised a few times by corners. Being able to trail brake is worth learning but I dont ride at a pace where I need it often
ACF50!!!
Mate I'm 64 years old Had my 99 since almost new she was sex months old when I got her Still having lodes of fun 😂😊
Great video brother, thanks!
The clutch fluid is DOT 4 brake fluid?
Hi , I find your content really nice. I ride a similar motorcycle, so I find your videos useful and entertaining. If possible, keep posting trips around Japan, the motorcycle culture in Japan, and the R1 maintenance. Safe rides, all the best :)
It may have been Built in 96, but it was Designed in like 86. And its also more of a Sport/Touring Bike. Waaayyy heavier.
Like the states in the 60's. Full service
You should do a video on adjusting the carbs on the R1 just the idle screw because i cant find mine lol. All the forums say left side under the tank there is a thumb screw but idk.
Can you suggest a good loss traffic Mountain roads and sight seeing from the ferry point of tokushima - mt tsurugi and then heading towards okayama and osaka by the evening.
Just got me a 99 R1 and soon as I did it got cold again so I am waiting for that spring weather to kick in.
Recentyl got myself an FJ and I gotta say they're really nice to ride. I was wondering how you were able to shorten the seat? I'd also really appreciate it if you could tell me if that's an aftermarket belly fairing and where you got it if it is. The guy I bought mine from lost it :(
Do you know what size fuel line you bought and what size clips please? Cheers
See @05:02 8mm / 5/16” ID hose. Hose clamp size 15-17mm.
Quite funny. I think GP bikes have become so ugly since all the aero mods. And now new bikes have useless aero wings on them. And there are even people putting wings on classic bikes. :') Complaining about the perfectly sized R1 tail. Just buy a modern bike already.
Pump the throttle 3 times choke all the way out Will start every time I got 2 - 92s 1 Street fighter 1 full fairing And a thundercat 2008 fjr1300
hi we have r1 too do you have instagram or something?
U can change the speedo to kph or mph Google it
Good review, I've had both the early R1 and an FJ . You might revise your view of the FJ a little as it's a mid 80s design a few generations away from the R1.
Also you said the R1 has less clutch leaking problems. Could it be that's not because of a better design but because the FJ is on average five years older making the seal in the slave cylinder simply more likely to fail due to age? I'm wondering since some guys in the FJ1200 facebook group advertise aftermarket clutch slave cylinders for 170 euros which apparently have a better design but I don't think the metal part is the problem, just the seal that will need replacing every so many years. So then this upgrade wouldn't be worth the cost and I'd just use clutch rebuild kits. If however there is a design error in the metal parts of the clutch on the FJ the aftermarket kit may be worth it.
Yes i did this plus changed the rubber gasket inside the reservoir and have had no problems since. Thank you!
Your taste in what will make this bike look nice is horrible, no one keeps those long levers in the U.S. You have the taste of a 65 year old man.
I have Rc2 levers by CRG now. The US is the world leader in terrible mods. 30 inch car alloy wheels, those Harleys with long stretched out front forks, everything covered in the American flag design etc
Had a stock 89 FJ1200...what a beast, the Mid Range King❤
Now I bay very good condition r1 1999 very Izzy for ride, this bike it's have good quality engine???
Tell me about it, I have a 1982 RD125LC I decided to restore for a bit of fun. To be honest it's been surprisingly reliable, after finding 1-2 to issues per ride for the first month or so anyway... The only thing I haven't managed to fix entirely is the speedo cable occasionally sticking and lurching forward. As far as 90s / early 2000s bikes go I've barely ever had an issue, but then I've mostly ridden a Honda.
I just got a 2001 Yamaha r6 with 36k miles , and I’ve been doing a full restoration, without getting in to the pistons and cylinders.
Hello budd, are they the same pipes as a while back Emgo ? Is it ? What other mods have u done please , bars , back wheel ? Any tips wpuld be great please , i have a 91 and fancy doing yhe bars and pipes , am considering the streetfighter look , but i have ltd tools and knowledge 😂😂 dont cock it up ,
Lot of air in the system
Seat looks great 👍
HELLO, WHAT ARE THESE TANK COVERS FOR?
Are you referring to the black parts on the side?
YES @@riderjapan1731
Mine also has some difficulty with the temperatures around freezing but it does start. Only with full choke at first and a little bit of gas. It doesn't start with no throttle nor when given too much throttle. Also if it's only for short trips (less then half an hour) I'd use a trickle charger to keep the battery charged. I have a different problem though, clutch lost pressure so I have to replace my old brake fluid, it's really weird though since the problem started with the clutch lever returning very slowly and now I just don't have pressure.
Try cycle thé ignition a few times until thé clicking stops when you cycle it. Maybe that helps? Lot of air in the fuel system.
Just got a pair for £19 delivered..... they work great. Loosen the clutch cable and align the slots so the cable can come out..... it's a no-brainer.
Been restoring a parted out 99 R1. Finding parts. Taken a lot of time and it came back to life after doing a valve job to restore compression and replacing the entire wiring harness, spark plugs and caps and pick up, battery and switches to have it have spark. It's been in the shop for months, but confident it will be road worthy again. The bike looks identical to yours
Great sounds similar to the work iv done to my FJ12. The R1 seems to be so healthy but in spring time Im gonna put some fresh bits on
Find any good sites to get parts for?
自分も同じR1乗ってます!
I did the same thing. Brakes are perfect for like an hour but then they became spongy again. No leaks, no holes. Nothing. Do you know what could it be? Someone told me that the hoses would be a reason.
You probably got some air bubbles in the brake lines, find a tutorial on "air bubbles in motorcycle brakes" and that should help
Always keep the EXUP! Just add short can, good fer 2 or three phonies and great low and mid range!
Agreed !
You know what kills a battery? Using the kill switch instead of turning the key off! Headlights blazing standing around talking! Nice bike mate hold on to that one.
I need help connecting the fuel pump , idk where the two lines go and where the line runs from my gas tank to where else
Hi, what's your head size? Mine is 58cm and I'm thinking of buying M size.
My head is 58 also. The size is good if your ok with tight! I went for this size I guess the helmet is more effective against impact if tight but I think L would be wearable
Thank you for the reply. I tried Shoei M and even L was too tight. I had hot spots. Weird head shape I guess. I ended up buying L size AGV K6S and it fits perfectly.
They'll have to pry my '99 from my cold, dead fingers!
