We are a mature couple (65+ yo), shopping for a split King foam "firm" mattress set. Can you guide us through this journey. Like most consumers, I do not want to over purchase feature that may prove to be unnecessary.

A lot of people replace mattresses and dont even think about if their foundation is proper. Then they come online posting about how xyz is a crappy mattress and starts to sag after only 3 months. Someone asks them what foundation they have it on and its usually silence after that. Or they actually fess up and admit they had their $3k tempur on a semi-flex foundation, or they just call it a box spring because everything is a box spring to most people. I feel like salesmen should be explicit about telling a customer exactly what kind of foundation is required for the mattress they are selling someone.

Go to a shop, try them out and then buy it online.

It’s like everything else nowadays - business interests are first (profits, legal protection). Care for the customers is treating them nice during the sale, no long-term commitments.

I don't like those fenders and what they're covered with... really... that's how they've been used for the past 50 years... not to mention mattress hygiene, coma!

The biggest ripoff I seen was guaranteed on mattress and got a adjustable base and when I didn’t like the mattress after 90 days which I had to keep it for before they would give me a full refund they would not honor the purchase of the adjustable base

Where can I find a double sided coil mattress. I've looked in stores, online and everywhere. No one seems to be selling them....why not?

I want a coil spring mattress. I can't stand this hybrid/foam crap anymore. They all bunch, sag and never hold their shape. I don't care how they package the foam beds, they are all terrible, but I can't find a coil spring mattress anywhere. I also can't stand the metal foundations that everyone, everywhere carries. Bring back the coils. They lasted so much longer, they were always comfortable; especially when they were flipped, and cared for properly. I'm kicking myself for getting rid of my old twin coil mattress and box spring set. They were bought in the 80's, and we're in great shape.

This was a really helpful beginners guide to mattresses. Something I think would be very helpful, and I know you guys are mostly latex salesmen, but I would love an in depth guide to polyurethane foam. Stuff like how 1.8pcf polyfoam or higher is high density, maybe 4pcf memory foam or higher as well, how that density relates to quality. What ILD is considered soft with memory foam, compared to the large range in Polyfoam which can be used as anything from a comfort layer to a support. The responsiveness is an aspect that is often overlooked when its one of the most important qualities to how someone will enjoy the feel of their mattress. Would also allow you to point out that latex can be more durable than even the most durable polyurethane foams, typically better at dissipating heat, and provides a nice responsive feel. I think a guide like that would have a decent chance of getting shared a bit more as well.

Howdy, couple questions. I’ve seen people say to do a short (1/2 inch to 1 inch) high density foam on top of the pocket coils under the latex comfort layer - I believe to protect the latex and help keep the coils from accordion’ing? I’ve also seen people say to do a high density foam on the very bottom under the pocket coils, again to keep the coils in place (specifically leggett and platt). Do you think that’s necessary? Is it more necessary if you plan to use the mattress on an adjustable base?

This is such a valuable site you have created. We are older couple with various health and aging issues. Since we have a disparity in weight and size and don't want to disturb each other at night, do you have a comment on which is better or make a difference? How do we know they are really using a quad coil? Do you sell online?

I have one of these beds, I have a question. If I wanted to replace the foam (bought second hand and it had a very heavy smell like it had been smoked on a lot), how would I go about doing that? I was thinking about buying a sheet of latex foam and replacing the purple foam that way, but I don't know what glue to use. Thoughts?

The worst mattress I ever bought! Everything is a lie. It does not mold to you. It makes you over heat even with the $500 Breeze cooling cover. It made me break out in hives from head to toe. They didnt honor 90 day guarantee. I had to file complaints with BBB and NBC Universal national tv. To get them to take it back! A $5k pierce of crap!

I would like to see them open up one of their beds and compare them to the other manufacturers.

I had the same problem. I bought the non-pillow top version and it was like sleeping on concrete. I tried both their soft and firm toppers, neither helped. I gave up after a year and went for Nest Bedding in the version that is now the Owl. Absolutely perfect in the store, but even with monthly rotating developed hollows. I’m a side sleeper, and soon had to roll uphill to turn over, and the edge support was terrible. In the end, less than a year but after the (then) six month trial period, the only place that felt the way it did in the store was the center ridge between the wallows. I’m about 170 pounds. Still looking.

Just a question. I noticed there are latex mattresses with through holes, vertically, from side to side, especially in the shoulder support area (considering a mattress divided into 7 support sections). This type of hole should be more effective for ventilation compared to what you see in a "classic mold", which goes partially deep, describing a sort of thin cone. However, I doubt it's just a marketing ploy to raise the price. Would it make sense to spend more to buy a mattress like this?

I appreciated seeing what’s inside thx❤ and I know they aren’t cheap but I wish you had one of their more recent generation mattresses. It’s 2024 and they changed those layers quite a bit in the LuxeAdapt line- I’m looking to buy one now and are way different. And buddy black shirt… smack the bed one more time 😂

This is interesting that they are tearing down this mattress as it was discontinued about a year ago. To do it now when they don’t even sale this one anymore unless you get it super discounted is a little strange to me.
