ONLY Vehicle Undercoating Worth Your Money!
The Recipe:
-15 toilet bowl wax rings
-1 quart or 1 liter, of boiled linseed oil (do not use un-boiled, it could cause a fire due to the chemicals used to make it dry)
-Graphite or other dyes to desired colour
Melt it down in a steel bucket over a sacrificial hot plate, stir, then drain into some type of spray gun, brush it on, or slap it on by hand AFTER it cools down a little, but remains warm.
After a while the boiled linseed oil should harden the mixture up a little, and after a coating dust, should be quite dry to the touch.
Please let me know how this works out for you! Obviously its quite greasy, especially when its hot out, but if you live in northern climates in the rust belt, you'll be thankful for this cheap blend of vehicle saving cosmoline.
Make sure you wear some of your sacrificial garments lol.

    Rust e capsulator does not work unless you take it all back to clean metal! Nothing is gonna stop rust, it will keep on eating untill all metal is gone. If you sand blast or media blast before applying an encapsulator then you deprive the metal of oxygen that is what stops rust. Without total disassembley of the truck and taking it all back to clean metal, it's a failure every time. I've seen a billion of these come through the shop and we replace the frame on all of them because they don't meet Alaska highway safety code. The cost of repair is much greater than replacement.

    • @foredore
      @foredore Před 8 dny

      @davidetchellsetchells4692 yeah thats complete bs. When YOU paint over rust or encapsulate it with rubber or paint, sure you're sealing it in, and i mentioned as much in the video. but what you're sealing in is the moisture and brine. Especially in the flakes. I have removed all the flakes on this truck. Normal oil sprays I've found cause more rust, because they hold on to the salt, then washes away and leaves a salt residue, rusting the truck. However, oils displace water, especially WD40, hence its name, and create a complete seal, that displaces water, which is what chemically causes rust. Yes, salt only accelerates it. I did de rust many areas, wire wheels, sandblasting, etc, but wherever I put the cosmoline, stays rust free, regardless if it was rusty. The wax used is specifically designed to seal against water. Which is the main factor for rust. Until you try it, and report back, you're just wrong. You can't tell me the only rust prevention still working on my truck doesn't work. And who the fuck is gonna tear a 3 ton truck down and put it on a rotisserie, sandblast it in a special humidity free facility, when you could just do this. You can take your Alaska safety code back to the bureau of bullshit where it came from

    • @foredore
      @foredore Před 25 dny

      Well good for you, but that is not the "proper" procedure, nor the correct oil, to do this. In both the maintenance manuals, and the instruction sheet provided by af1, it says to leave the bike on its stand or vertical. Im not going to show incorrect information that is a habit picked up from KTM riders. Theres no need to risk scratching your plastics, or dirtying a measuring cup for the gear oil. Besides that, I'm not going to teach the disregard for proper fill plug use, as too little or too much oil can damage your transmission, and overheat. The prefilling oil at the filter is similar to prefilling oil filters for vehicles debate. Many hobbyists will tell you to prefill, but many service techs will advise against it, as according to manufacturers, it introduces unfiltered oil into the oil jets, which go to things like bearings. Seeing as how the manual doesn't say to do that, I will not teach that. There's still lubricity in the engine for the few seconds of running until new oil gets filtered. I mean why not just use rotella t4 t5 or t6, if you're going to use the wrong oil you might as well use the cheap stuff. My friend uses t6, but he also has an oil bypass mod, which he is testing that should reduce the need for heavier oils like 10w60.

      @foredore Před 25 dny

      @rolphbluesky8537 well thats great, but realize you're robbing horsepower and increasing resistance and friction with thicker oils. I don't care what you use if it works for you. But this is a video on proper procedure. Inevitably the sample size for different oils, thinner and thicker, is very small, and I'm not going to say one is better over the other. I have over 40,000 kms on that sxv running 10w60. 20k of which I put on, running 10w60, and it looks great inside. Thats more than 98% of other SXV's out there.

Go buy a TM to ride, leave the MXV out of it. The info is out there you just have to look. There's ot much to know, its kickstart 4 speed stock, some trick factory supermotos were made and a 5 speed conversion existed, factory ti exaust, integrated oil reservoir, different cams, extremely lightweight like 235 lbs, only came in 450, different crank, seat, tank, some plastics, tuning, came with ecug with built in high idle control. The reason most XV owners tip the bike over to install the oil filter is so that you can add oil in the oil filter housing. Doing so prevents air from entering the oiling system. I definitely would not install a new filter without tipping the bike on its side and filling the oil filter housing with oil after installing the filter. Also the XV 550 takes 1250ccs of engine oil not “a few liters” that’s f ing crazy man. You cannot use the min max site tube to verify engine oil fill level without first running the bike up to temperature. Filling the engine oil to the max level while the engine is cold will result in overfilling the engine oil. Perhaps this is why you oil is black. The gearbox takes 550 ccs. I don’t bother using the site drain when filling the gearbox. Just make sure to drain ALL of the gearbox oil and measure out 550ccs carefully.

    • @foredore
      @foredore Před 6 měsíci

      Where's your video then? Trust me you're gonna need more than 1250cc after you dump oil into your airbox when you tip it over. There's no need to scratch your plastics to install oil, fite me. Idk what you think you're gonna do to the engine by filling it to the right level, running it, then topping it up properly, your argument is invalid. If you measure the oil you actually use to fill it to within the sight tube, you'll use more than 1250cc without a doubt. Sure you can measure out for the gearbox if you want, but why bother guessing and dirtying a cup, or potentially adding dirt to your gearbox, when its literally 2 allen heads to make sure its done properly? If you consult the various manuals for the different years, and the af1 manual, you'll see I've taken the factory and dealer instructions into consideration, after all this is instructing people how to do it "properly".

People believe all sorts of mystical nonsense about prefilling filters, measuring, etc. But others swear by not intoducing unfiltered oil into the filtered side of oil system, and engines will find their own level regardless of the possibly dirty measuring cup you use. The only thing special about the XV engine is how poorly it was implemented and set up from the factory, otherwise its a good reliable engine like any other. You're not "clearing up gaps", you're introducing your opinion, which is fine, but I don't believe in it, nor will I teach it. You are being a dick, because you assume you're right and I'm wrong.

      Only sxv has a taller 5th gear. An xv is not a long ride bike, id look elsewhere. Theres no aftermarket cams to my knowledge and there wouldnt be much point swapping them out anyway, maybe an ecu tune. Good luck finding parts to rebuild, some are being made aftermarket but theres waiting lists and no guarantees. Nor would i go messing with the oil system unless you're going to experiment with craig bonars modifications. Like i said in my other video, the xv is a treat you take out on a saturday afternoon, not a daily driver, its not built for long rides, and i wouldnt use it hard with the current parts availability and general rarity of these bikes

Watching love video like yours about xv is very very content. I like the aprilia xv, as it is few of the enduro bikes, or supermoto, that has twin engine...

    Very good video. I own 3 Aprilias rxv 2008 one from brand new and one rental bike, one i bought for spares. But i am in to convert it wirh an 300 TM two stroke engine. The two running bikes, has been used for hard enduro, and aprox 400-500 hours on each over the years. Three or four starters,a few clutches one fuel pump one waterpump. I do think that like you says in the vid, They demand an skilled mechanic thats all. Improvements , The fork is shit on one bike KXF 450 forks with Honda CRF clamps, The other has an Air cylinder complement to improve bottoming and is lighted round ten kilograms. Best regards from Sweden Göran.

    Hello!! Northern Illinois University Formula team here. We are trying to switch our engine platform this year from a YZF-R6 to these Aprilias. It has been difficult finding data on these motors, seems the engine manual’s for these motors don’t include 100% of the data you need. I’m hoping you may be able to help us a little. Do you know of any CZcamsrs that dive into details of this specific motor? Besides for your videos, the only other quality videos I find are by this French uploader… seems like great content but sadly I don’t understand French. For our purposes engine maintenance is BIGGEST concern. We have a standalone ECU (Megasquirt) that will be running this engine and we do all of our engine calibration in house. We would really appreciate any info at all from you and appreciate your time taken to read this :)

      For reference, this is the French video series I was mentioning: czcams.com/video/SretrBMugEs/video.html I haven’t found anything else in this level of detail which really makes me wish I learned French, does anyone know of any other CZcamsrs/ mechanics that upload videos on these engines or just work on these in general. A name and email address would be a blessing at the least

      @@mixasp70 Not much out there. Seek out the apriliaforum member SXVINWA, many things are already on the forum, if you're planning on using these engines for anything more than recreational, I'd suggest going a different route, parts just aren't available. These engines aren't for novice wrenches, if you want to consult an engine builder, seek out Paul Calvert or cal550, on the forum or Facebook is the easiest, fair warning he's helpful but he can get cranky lol, hes been working on them sice day one so he has a right. SXVINWA I'd say is your best bet, he knows a lot and is always happy to answer questions

    How do we feel about converting a RXV550 to supermoto? I understand the swingarm is narrow and only fits a 160 rear tire on the RXV.

    • @foredore
      @foredore Před rokem

      apparently you can loop an sxv hoop to an rxv hub, but dunno. I mean an sxv would be better, but you can get away with it on an rxv just dont expect much cause theyre tuned differently

      @KeyMill I intended this video as a hub for discussion anyway. The rxv actually makes a good supermoto if you put the sxv engine in, and sumo wheels, as the frame is narrower which leads to better and lower cornering

    Currently 2 for sale in my country. One 11' and one 07'. 11' has 11k KM and the 07 has 9k KM, but the older one had an engine rebuild at 6.000Km. Are there any mechanical benefits of going for the 11' or is it all the same what year i go for?

    • @Viskoze
      @Viskoze Před rokem

      Ehhh... what do you mean by street converted? I have RXV 450, with SXV and KTM 17" wheels, 550 engine and recently with SXV front fork and brakes so I've been trough a lot of phases with this bike. If you want an Aprilia supermoto, buy SXV. If you are planning to swap between supermoto and enduro wheels on RXV just buy both versions of the bike, it will be cheaper and better. RXV is quite hard to justify as a smart enduro purchase, it's heavy, overpowered and parts are scarce. SXV 550 is easier bc there are still not many bikes like it and it's sexy as ****. There are MANY major differences between those two versions of XV. Also km's and years on these bikes don't mean much, all of them have been rebuild by better or worse mechs and things like oil change intervals are measured in hours. They are still great hooligan and amateur race bikes but if you want something for daily commuting, look elsewhere
