Resonance Structures - What to do with Lewis Dot Structures for Polyatomic Ions
zhlédnutí 833Před 3 lety
In this video we look at how to do Lewis Dot structures for polyatomic ions they have RESONANCE structures... this just means that there's more than 1 way to draw them because the electrons are "delocalized". Sounds confusing, but I promise, it's not. In some of these structures, we can also "force" some atoms to break the octet rule - but that's okay because electronegativity will help balance...
Polar and Nonpolar Bonds - How to Tell if a Molecule is Polar or Nonpolar?
zhlédnutí 3,3KPřed 3 lety
In this video we look at the next step in electronegativity polarity We need to be able to determine if a bond is polar or nonpolar, and we use electronegativity to do it. Make sure you're solid in understanding your VSEPR models and molecular geometry before you try to figure out if a molecule is polar... the SHAPE of a molecule can determine the POLARITY of the molecule. Just watch out for that!
Electronegativity - What is it? And the FONCl BrISCH rule
zhlédnutí 2,5KPřed 3 lety
In this video we look at electronegativity - the ability of an atom to attract electrons. This is so important to understand because it's the building block for polar/nonpolar molecules. Make sure you get this! Good luck :)
VSEPR - Molecule Shapes - How to Find Shape a Molecule Takes - Valence Shell Electron Pair Repulsion
zhlédnutí 551Před 3 lety
In this video we look at the VSEPR model and how to figure out what shapes different molecules will take. You must look at the number of atoms bonded to the central atom AND the number of lone pairs attached to the central atom. Then you can figure out if the molecule is: 1. linear 2. trigonal planar 3. tetrahedral 4. pyramidal 5. bent Those are the main 5. Yes, there are some molecules that br...
