December in Detroit. The bitter cold claims the lives of more and more homeless people every year. The largely abandoned districts of the city offer shelter from the cold winter nights. But the homeless are not the only ones seeking shelter. Something else has come in out of the snow, looking for the warmest of hosts.
The cover, along with several pieces of internal artwork, comes from many-time Eisner-Award-Winning comic artist Evan Dorkin. We also have illustrations from many of our other favourite eldritch artists, including Daupo, Lucy Fricker, Bev Gordon, Bethan Harris, John Sumrow, Jef Wilkins and Jonathan Wyke.

Its be good to see a playthrough of a simple scenario. Still having a hard time getting ready for my first game as keeper
Dude looks like H.p. lovecraft. Thanks for the tutorials
This is a well-organized video and provides a good amount of information for the time recorded. For those who aren't familiar with character creation for Call of Cthulhu, and don't have the Quick-Start rules at the time of viewing this, you don't add the base value of the skill when entering the skill points for the eight Occupational Skills for Quick-Start characters. This wasn't mentioned, or shown on-screen.
Cheap House %) Lovecraft described smarter architecture. This was the impression that was created. And here, just a barn)
Paul Fricker, it's been 7 years and you're still my hero
Exactly what I was looking for to help me understand combats.
I've been so lost trying to figure out the rules for Call of Cthulhu, and with this video I feel like I'm Neo seeing the Matrix code. Thank you!
I don't mind the fast pace of talking, but a lot was left out. You say, if two people are directly opposed, they both roll and the one with the higher level of success wins. That is fine, but what happens if there is a tie (e.g. both figures get a HARD success)? This comes up a lot, so it is not like this is a minor detail that can almost always be ignored. There are other tutorial videos which are 10 or 15 minutes long per rule section, which are a lot more useful in My Humble Opinion. Warm regards, Rick.
I said it years ago and I'll say it again that this series is still the best introduction to 7th edition Call of Cthulhu.
Merci!
Marvelous gentlemen!!! Your tips and insight are invaluable...solid gold; and grand to listen to. Cheers!!!😊
I've watched this video multiple times this past year because this is such an excellent and concise explanation of the starting rules.. and now I just realized that this video is made by no other than Paul Fricker himself! 🤯 Thanks for making this video!
Really helpful for noob...7e wow that's an epic undertaking!!
Oh yes please!!! More videos. Very helpful.
I went to the comments to see who else giggled at "local nightschool wh*re" because they misread your handwriting and was disappointed to find I was the only one?
📝 I highly recommend having a starting cap of 75 for new players. As i found it necessary due to some new players wanting to max out a group of skills. Most often brawl & firearms if they came over from D&D or other combat focused systems.
👍
Great video thanks
Excellent job Paul and please go ahead with the full 7th Ed rules - they are super handy for explaining to new players so they get how things work
Great job with the rules and explanation Paul!
When new vids with you?
good review thanks - i love my copy of this supplement
Playing for the first time. Thanks for the help
Very helpfull !
Awesome. Will this be available in the U.K.? because when I purchased the Masks of Nyarlathotep prop set direct from HPLHS I had to pay additional import tax 🤬😞.
Hi Fabio, have to admit I don't know the answer to that. Oh and that import tax thing is such a pain in so many ways.
I have just purchased my copy, it cost a total of about £140. so im paying almost half its cost... to transport it. but these are such great products, and every person involved in getting it made and delivered ... including the postpeople... need their tuppence. I am tracking my delivery... its sat at a California airport...and various prayers to atlach nacha have thus far failed to urge it to load onto an aeroplane bound for london. but it is 'due' for delivery this wednesday, meaning a total of less than a week twixt paying and playing...and considering the state of Britains postal service.... i feel pretty happy about the delivery/tax costs so far.
Hmm... this is very and very interesting.
I understand what the people inside feels, my house had a really bad reputation some years ago when we moved and it was annoying to listen to superstition.
Can you hit someone in the car by chance?
Hi DED, If you are shooting and get a critical failure, I might very well say that the car goes over a bump and you end up shooting your friend. If I'm feeling kind, I might let the victim make a Dodge roll to avoid the damage. Warm regards, Rick.
This is fantastic, thank you very much for the explanation!
Thanks, I think I finally wrapped my head around chases with this video.
H.P. Lovecraft, a great atmospheric writer of strange and amazing tales, an intelligent poet, a fine example of a person. We will continue to admire him and the world's he created - equal in talent to the other great writers he reported to us about. He has already inspired many of our modern writers and artists as a supreme point of reference, they praise him above all the others it seems. A new revival of interest in his work has spawned an endless stream of inspiration, mythos extending out beyond into the horrors of space. Mr. Lovecraft has preserved the past masters and made such creative element as to inspire, set free, frighten, and spark our minds to think in strange ways. Some people possess a genius that cannot be overshadowed as they are unique with other unique talents. For him it was with talents such as Lord Dunsany, Arthur Machen, Ambrose Bierce, Poe Etc. Most fail to reach these heights of artistic individuality. Mr. Lovecraft was of the highest order. At this modest grave for a talent beyond the scope of his time period, not recognized in his own lifetime, I say: "Here's to H.P. Lovecraft", writer, poet, friend to a lucky circle of aspiring writers, upstanding citizen of and son of the town of Providence.
I will be running this at Chaosium Con in April!
I ran Full Fathom Five while trying to get game nights started at the store I work at. It went wonderfully! Thank god there were so many characters, as I ended up running it for a table of ten (by far the biggest table I've ever been apart of). I've also never before and never since been able to get an entire table to sing sea shanties at the drop of a hat. I highly recommend this scenario, and can't wait to pick up a printed copy!
How long was your session? I'm thinking of running this over two 4-hour sessions...
How do we find out more about your wallpaper, Paul?
There are some things man was not meant to know
@@thegoodfriendsofJE Fleur de Morte
I'm pdf-only but the booklet looks fantastic.
Terrifying. The wallpaper, that is.
Instant insanity.
I am Providence - What an epitaph although for Lovecraft its missing an adverb or four!
This was incredibly useful
More videos please!!
Perfectly clear, thank you
I find this to be a really good explanation of skill test, well done.
Thanks! I've been watching a bunch of different videos to try get the hang of chases in addition to reading the Keepers Rulebook and listening to some real play examples, but this has been the most succinct, understandable, and straightforward so far!
My friends ALWAYS push the roll, and then get mad at me when they die ?????
I'm a GM for CoC, and I have the opposite problem, my player NEVER push rolls. I've got into the habit to often give them a 10% bonus to the skill, to make pushing the roll more attractive. One thing you could try is rather than failing the pushed roll hurting them bad, (loss of hit points, or enemy sees them and starts shooting), the consequence makes the game more interesting. The enemy gets a clue that the PC's are on their trail and starts to leave traps, or the police start investigating the players. The result should be bad enough that it feels like a failure, but it does not directly lead to the PC's death. Warm regards, Rick.
people take all metalic letters they dont have culture
Made a Private eye called Norman Jayden loved him
This is fantastic and really helped my group new to CoC-- you're awesome and have a very soothing voice. Great video!
