    What exactly are you calling a NASCAR cam not making fun. I like the way the car sounds. I’d like to know the specifics of the cam.

    I was NOT, I repeat, NOT a rich kid. Born in forty nine, got one new from the factory, built by the factory..... black on black.... all the nice stuff on the order sheet was checked. I had won a emancipation from my step parents that had been done by a city sheriff along with the county marshal.... his nick name was "Handlebars" as his mustache was like a famous movie actor that normally I would remember. Self employed plus saving every penny earned or found. I had a nice old fifty one chevy one ton with single tires but lots of springs..... so hauled firewood or dirt, for folks that needed stuff I could get my hands on. Loggers would pay me to help clean up landings for their logging jobs to keep the forest service happy. Using a old piece of equipment they had abandoned, used it to push up dirt for the truck loads I hauled for people needing landscaping. I would also use it for pulling out the many pieces of logs that were broken or other issues for firewood. All part of cleaning their landings and got paid nicely considering that time of wages paid for any kind of work. I really wanted a fifty seven ford that had held my heart dear.. The car I got was a sixty four ordered by a wealthy logger and then he offered it to me for the hard work I dedicated for him. I guess it didn't hurt that his daughter was in love with me and he did not want a dumb kid with no future for a son in law. I do promise that I never ever jeopardized that girls safety as I really did like her too. Her dad was no idiot, being a kid once himself meant he knew I was going to race that car every opportunity for extra money. We were waiting for our age to work for getting married. In nineteen sixty six, I was seventeen, built ford tuff myself and was a hot head with the other boys around who had picked on me as native kid, my real mom had passed on but people knew who she was, and a lot of stuff not needed here. Now the town judge was also a man with a boy who loved my girl. Daddy took care to see that boy got what ever he wanted. The kid started a fight with me and of course I was ford tuff and he was a school boy who someone packed his books for. Now I did bruise him up but never really did a lot of damage to him. Never less, I wound up in jail and this judge said to me that the city, state and other people generally did not care for all of my fighting. This long story shortened a heck of a lot..... I got myself drafted in sense as I did sign all of their paperwork and off to Fort Bragg I went and later off to Nam. Yeah I might of did things different had I known then what I know now. Now I could but never ever will write a book on the ifs and whys of our not marrying. I knew my skin was a history sheet for anyone with a grudge to get me in more troubles. The sixty four ford Galaxie wound up in canada and when he found out that I had came home, he offered it back to me. Instead, I moved my happy butt to alaska to log for a big company up there. Just story after story that no one is going to believe and I say that because of how things were happening.. That alone was a adventure that made me a better person. I guess this is a good place to quit on this adventure alone. I still live in alaska and at the current age of sixty four, it really is a good place to stop with this. The only thing is, if able to drive, might of got another sixty three or four ford two door hardtop as they are a very nice rig. I do apologize for this too long comment

    I have a 1964 Galaxie Custom 2 door hardtop sitting in my shop that needs complete restoration. It has a 289 that is still running but would like to swap it with a 390. Maybe even a 427 which the 63 1/2 had in it. Will be a bit of a process with restoration but it will be a beauty when it's done.

    the math does not work how do you get 455 c.i.d. out of a 390 FE block with a 427 FE crankshaft when the 390 FE and 427 FE have the same exact stroke? P.S. IT does sound wickedly healthy.

  • @montymatilda
    @montymatilda Před 3 lety

    This is a fantastic car. Beautifully restored except for the wheels. This is a fine piece of history. One of the prettiest colors and I always loved Ford's turquoise interior from '59 up. Nice that he kept the original color. A '59 is my favorite with the '64 side by side with it. The '64 Mercury was also a very special car. I drove these a lot back in the day, a friend had a car dealership, so I got to drive what ever I wanted, for a very short period. I also worked there, cleaning and polishing some cars, part time. But...all this claiming about it being a big block...it is really more of a mid sized block. The Ford FE ranged from 332, 352, 361, 360 "T", 390, 406, 410 to 427 & 428 respectfully, with other truck engines. The real big blocks were two: #1- The MEL, 383, 410 (different than the FE), 430 and 462, with the first 400 hp American engine in 1958, a 430 with tri-power, Mercury Super Marauder. Very rare even though you could have the engine in a Lincoln, Continental, and other Mercury's, like the Mercury Montclair Turnpike Cruisers, Monterey's and Park Lanes. Then #2: the 385 series of engines that included the 429 and 460. I have read that the "385" was to be a minimum of cubic inches. Maybe? There were engines that were used in Super Duty equipment that was over 500 cubic inches. The FE was very widely used and very popular. It also could be rebuilt like this one here to what ever you want, mostly. A very flexible engine. Ford played with them using the 390 with a 428 crank to get the 410. Never drove a 410, so I can't attest to performance. My first love is still a 65-66 Thunderbird, all turquoise.

    When I was 17, I talked my Mom into buying a low mileage '64 Galaxie 500 XL 2 dr. fastback, black with a red interior and white roof liner, 352 4bbl. and 3 speed auto. I got as many compliments on that car from Chevy and Chrysler Corp lovers, as I did from Ford guys! My high school girlfriend's parents were well off and her Mom drove a loaded white Buick Convertible. One evening, I gave her a lift to a neighbor's house in the Galaxie and when she opened the door to get in, it lit up like Coney Island with all the various convenience and safety lights. She said, wow, this is a really nice car - what is it? When I told her she just said boy, I didn't know that Ford made a car this nice! She was not one to compliment, so that meant a lot to me! In my opinion, the '64 500 XL fastback was the best looking Ford ever made. Period!
