The fact that Larry Hovis was never nominated for an Emmy for either his portrayal of this fictional general or the apings of Hitler is subject to criticism. He was brilliant. UPDATE: Looked up the 1970 Emmys. The problem was there was only 3 nominees and Colonel Klink's Werner Kemperer was one of them. With 5 nominees, Larry Hovis has to be considered heavily.
Most interesting though all of the major German actors who played major roles in Hogan heroes were Jewish and the only way these actors would play Nazis is to make them all look like a bunch of idiots and fools and stupid! Unfortunately all the actors BOTH German and American have all passed away expect for Kenneth Washington who took over for Ivan Dixon who played Sgt kensho. RIP EVERYONE THANK YOU FOR THE GREAT ENTERTAINMENT YOU ALL PROVIDED!
Hochstetter is one of my favorite characters, he's so emotive and usually so frustrated. Even though he's evil (unless he's secretly Nimrod, which I still think is the best theory), it's fun to see him bounce between extreme emotions and go from contrite to boastful. And of course Klink deflates so well. Good simple character work that is exactly what the scene needed.
🤣🤣🤣 I just love the look on Major Hocksheter's face when he shoots the tires but the car explodes! This show is just too much its so funny 😂 and I do own every season of Hogan's Heroes! ❤
I loved it when he imitated both "Crazybrains" as Hogan referred to him and when he imitated a other officer who came at 1 o'clock KLINK But sir we were expecting you in the morning "Vun o'clock in the morning is morning and two o'clock in the morning is morning AND THREE O'CLOCK IN THE MORNING IS MORNING!! Then the real officer came later and Klink had already been duped
I would love to play Hochstetter on stage, if the Hogan's script's are ever released for public performances in community theaters. I somewhat resemble Howard Caine, and do a good vocal of the character as well!
The funniest episode was when Klink killed Hogan and stuffed him in the position of a German salute while wearing an SS uniform. Then Klink nailed his feet to his front porch for the other prisoners to see whenever they came outside.
The start where he starts yelling in English but nobody reacts until he stammers and switches to German killed me 😂. I would've missed it if it wasn't for the laugh track.
The National Socialists NEVER referred to themselves as Nazis. The term comes from Ashkenazi Jews, who inserted that term into the history books, which they published.
Interesting that in an earlier episode, Carter had a horrendous German accent. Then he went on to do the best impersonations of anyone, including the little Corporal himself.
