    One thing I would like to know that I may have missed is: How much weight do you think you could pack in the c9111 and still run without it swinging/swaying significantly? It seems that many packs are designed to either hike slow with lots of weight or go fast with SUL setups. I am somewhere in the middle with 10-15 min/mi run times, lots of technical trails and tons of vert here in northern AZ. I like to run fast when it flattens and smooths out, but also don't have the lightest setup when winter sets in. Thanks so much OO.

However, i attached 3 elasticated cords across the back rest from the tieouts to hold a thinlight foam pad externally (easy access and stays in place) and I also attached guy lines to the bottom loops and across to the strap-loop so i can store my tent there (longer dyneema bag) since i always pack my tent outside and last (usually wet in scotland)

      @OutdoorOtaku Před 4 dny

      unfortunately not. i have a smaller capacity bottle i use that i DIY'd. check my channel if you want to see that. those bottles are still going strong. Aonijie has hard bottle's with straws, but its not contoured. It's such a shame they discontinued it. im sure it's to save money. the new bottles they have look exactly like the aonijie ones from china. I did a little bit of DIYing with an Amphipod contoured hand bottle and the cap of the aonijie bottle. they screw together but the threads are not perfectly aligned so it leaks a lot. my next try may be using the Amphipod bottle again but with one of those bottle straw conversion kits. not the one i used in my video but some of the other ones that can fit large mouth bottles.

    Nice logical loadout. I have personally moved toward not compressing the quilt and other insulation. They still go in a waterproof bag, but I just fold the top over and then push the rest of the pack’s contents on top. This more closely aligns to Mike Clelland’s OG ultralight philosophy of making the pack softer against the back. After experimenting, I was surprised to find that compressing all of the soft stuff didn’t make an appreciable difference in overall pack size. My guess is that all of the other items conform better and don’t leave wasted space. More comfy, too. YMMV.

      @@OutdoorOtaku I have Gossamer Gear Murmur & Kumo (28L internal), LiteAF Curve 30L and Framed 48L, and an Evolved Supply Co. Ranger 35L. I most often use the loose quilt method in the Murmur, since that pack is basically a grocery bag with straps (haha). I even leave my tarp or tent (also GG) loose on top of the quilt (separated by the bag). Then just place my food bag (including pot/stove/hygiene) and electronics bag on top of that. Squish it down just enough to roll the top of the pack down sufficiently. Warning: this will not result in an impossibly small looking pack to flex on the trail, since you’re effectively using the full volume of the pack all the time. All the Palante tiny pack influencers will scoff. Lol.

    Most people (myself included) put its matress folded in a rectangular shape placed against the back. Why don't you do that? I do it and feels more confortable than what you so where you can have like a crest in the middle of your bag. Good video as always!

    • @OutdoorOtaku
      @OutdoorOtaku Před 22 dny

      That's a good point! I have tested it before. Believe it or not, i feel like it's more comfortable without the pad. With the pad against the back it feels bulky. Once i put the pack on, the crest conforms to my body. the only issue is if the food bag wasn't placed in correctly. a quick adjustment can make it flat. Also, another smaller issue is that the pad will get soaked if i put it there. Not just with rain, but sweat as well. Since i took out most of the back material on the c9111 except for some mesh, moisture from my back travels through it very easily. I'm definitely the odd one out! i do know a lot of people recommend this. Everyone should definitely try both options to see what they prefer. Thank you for bringing this up.

    Nice review mate, I was actually pretty into the pack (with mods) until you mentioned the strap gap. Your aonijie 30l review was great too, i bought both the 20 and 30l packs after watching it. Both are great packs and comfortable, although the 20 is a little small for the hip belt. I also bought the Anmeilu 30l which is pretty much the aonijie 30L with the hipbelt of the 20L. Its advertised as 2 inches longer than both aonijie packs at 50cm/20 inches, but its actually 40cm/ 16 inches. Only for very short people unfortunately. Nice pack otherwise

      @OutdoorOtaku Před 29 dny

      yeah the strap gap is what really killed this pack for me. it's unfortunate since it has potential. WELCOME TO THE AONIJIE PACK PACK! 😈i love converting people oh, i didnt know that pack existed. pretty cool. so it's body length is shorter than the aonijie c9111?

    • @MovementDrifter
      @MovementDrifter Před 28 dny

      @@OutdoorOtaku yeah it's all round smaller in depth width and height on the body, and end to end on the foam back at the longest point it's 16 inches and the c9111 is 18. It fits me fine apart from the hip belt is a stomach belt unless I'm pretty much at max trap length. I'm about 6ft 2 Although most fast packs including the c9111 seem to fit a bit better higher on your back like a running vest, so maybe I'm just not destined to own a fastpack with a comfortable hip belt haha (at least at budget prices)

    • @OutdoorOtaku
      @OutdoorOtaku Před 22 dny

      @@MovementDrifter that's very interesting. you'd think it's the same pack body. it looks so similar. I kinda wanna give it a try now that i know its not the exact same capacity. lol yeah most fastpacks have belly belts that ride around the waist rather than hips. i hate it cause my belly wants to be free especially after munchin on food. I dont use them now, but when i first started looking at packs that was a feature i really wanted. The only fastpacks i know of that does have actual hip belts are the ultraspire epic xt and i think some packs from montane. IIRC they also have actual stiff frames. so the hipbelt can help distribute the weight. in the end i opted against it as i found it limited my movement too much.

      @MovementDrifter Před 18 dny

      @@OutdoorOtaku yeah I think you're right about fastpacks with hip belts, I think I may just stick to ultralight packs when I need one. If I wasn't in Australia I'd send you the pack for review, but it will probably cost the same to send it back and forth than it costs shipped from China lol I'd also recommend having a look at the decathlon quechua mh500 22l rolltop. It's like a hybrid fastpack with a hip belt that tucks away behind the water bottle pockets, vertical zip to access the body, also has a little pocket on the bottom and comes with a rain cover, but I use the pocket like a palante, for snacks and stuff. Not very light at 745gm/1.64 lb without rain cover but it's a nice pack and well priced

      @@MovementDrifter haha thank you and no worries. It seems like there's a lot of interest so i may just pick one up. I need to offload some of my current packs first though... wow, so many new fastpack/hybrid packs with vest straps nowadays! Looks good. the shoulder strap pockets are a bit lacking for me. I need big stretchy ones for my bottles. Im getting kinda picky with packs. i've tried a lot now and i have a good feeling of what i like and what i dont. my next vid will probably be a breakdown of "what to look for in a fastpack". or something like that. decathlon looks good, but i dont know if it can really compete with the c9111 or palante joey

    • @OutdoorOtaku
      @OutdoorOtaku Před 29 dny

      I don't think so. i think 4r for 20f is a bit low. I havent gone down to 20f before though, so ymmv. you can maayybe get away with it if you had down booties, pants, jacket, and hood. or if you layer with another quilt/sleepingbag.

    Just got this pack and it honestly does look pretty well-made so far. Thanks for the review and gear mods! I'm going to be testing it out a good amount over the next few weeks and see how it feels. I'm not a trail runner but I do lots of hiking and trail running has interested me for a while. I'm also thinking about some of my own gear mods after seeing what you've done. My first though was coating a few spots of the backpack in Silicone to increase durability and give it a few waterproof sections. Then possibly adding a low-friction fabric, currently looking at Lycocell, around the top of the shoulder straps to reduce any friction that might happen while in-use. Appreciate your in-depth review and enthusiasm for your gear and activities.

      @OutdoorOtaku Před 29 dny

      im glad you found the video helpful! Have you tested it yet? let me know what you think. trail running is a lot of fun. For a weekend warrior like me, sometimes i gotta run in order to accomplish my goals. silicone seam sealant would be a great idea. however note that the pack material itself isn't 100% waterproof like dyneema or ultra. It is coated with something on the inside, but that will eventually wear out as mine has. It will still help though. ive never heard of Lycocell, that's interesting. i'd say test the pack first. It may not be necessary. I've never found friction to be an issue. In fact, i actually prefer the body facing fabric to be a little bit rough. that way it wont slide / bounce around too much. i have another pack called the raidlight revolutiv 24l that is made out of a very slick material. it bounces like crazy due to what i believe is the material and many other things. I like how your are thinking! keep the ideas coming.

      @@OutdoorOtaku I had the chance to take it out on a few hikes and bike rides since my last comment. Overall I've been very impressed by the functionality of it. Large enough to hold anything I'd want on a day trip, but still very functional. It hugs my back well, even when I'm scrambling over a fallen tree or riding a bike. I think I agree there are a few too many straps and loose details/pockets that could be removed. I may just use silicone to coat the bottom panel for increased durability. The process I intended to use can coat entire swathes of the fabric but it's probably a bit prohibitive to do that to every part of the backpack. And like you mentioned it would make it quite slippery at that point. You're completely right about the Lycocell being unnecessary. So far I haven't had any discomfort from the straps, and definitely no lasting marks or friction burns. I intend to keep using it as my day-trip pack for the foreseeable future so if I come up with any new plans or ideas I'll be sure to swing back by!
