Is your tohatsu a 2 stroke or a 4 stroke? I have seen the installation calls for wrapping the coil instead of the wire for 4 strokes.

Hi so I had the exact same problem that you had and I replaced the motor and gear but when I started it up the motor bogged down and stopped as if it was turning. It was as though the rotor that it was turning was hard to turn. Does that sound about right? What should I do?

Should be standard for all trucks to have access panel for fuel pump.

What you think of hydrofoil? Do you feel difference?

I have 20 hp tohatsu, and using it on inflatable, I have big issue, water runs over the transom into my boat at high speeds, is there any way to fix it? Also at max RPMS it was only showing 4K at most

Question please, i transport tohatsu 20hp on proper side, tiller down side, and second time oil been flooding cylinders and locking starter. Why is this happening? I mean road can be windy and different change in slope when riding my car, but its laying on proper side, by the time I come to fishing spot, theres ton of oil leaked out and motor doesn't start, so frustrating, i just bought this motor and already having issues. Any suggestions?

From owners of this motor people say that it does not start from first try due to EFI system. Is that the case with yours? How many pulls do you need to do to start it? Sounds like Outboards with carburetors were a lot more efficient at starting these outboards Tohatsu outboards? What is your experience? My 6hp tohatsu starts with 1 pull when properly primed

I just picked up my boat friday having it re-powered with a new Tohatsu MSF115A and took it out today. After 15-20 minutes I was headed back in with a grinding noise coming from the motor. Got it back up on my trailer and found the installer either put a wrong size propeller on and or didn't put the Thrust Washer on the shaft. The Propeller was grinding into the lower unit and both the propeller and lower unit housing are eaten up. I am more than pissed off to the point of the fact that the motor hasn't even been broke in and such stress was put on it that I'm thinking I'm going to demand they replace the motor with a new one or replace it with another dealer and take them to Court to get my money back for the motor and install. I'm just really uneasy about letting them fix the motor as much internal stress that the grinding sounded like it was causing the motor.

one thing I would worry about, is the use of copper 'non-seize' grease on the outboard. The outboard is mainly aluminum alloy, with zinc anodes. Copper grease would introduce another metallic element to the situation.... I think non-seize grease is a great idea, but I would be looking for a grease that is electrically non-conductive or at least neutral acting in the corrosion process. As I am no expert, I am not able to suggest a product, but there will be something out there.

Very helpful video. The Tohatsu owners manual does not discuss AT ALL how to replace the impeller?? not helpful. I feel confident now that I can replace it with your guideance. I would like to ask that you hold your camera back about a foot. I would have liked to see the entire lower unit and crankshaft. Also, hold it a little stiller would be helpful. That said, good job!

Did you ever test the speed with out the hydro foil on it’s probably a little faster I have a similar boat but mines a 1648 20 inch transom I get 24 mph with a 18 hp with a 10 p prop. With about 200 lbs of gear and myself.

Completely ignorant to cut a hole in your bed. Spend the money to drop the tank.

Does your motor have tilt and trim ?

There should be another fuse on the motor I believe, one is a 20amp and one is a 15amp according to parts diagram

What about a noisy chorus or flanger? Specifically a wind noise underneath the effect. Still trying to understand if it really is the caps or the chips as well... And in the case of the caps, can I replace the old electrolytic one for a non-polarized film cap?

Oh man… you just saved me A$$. I was just about to run it with the hose attachment… I brought out the “ear muff” water attachment instead. Mine is fresh water only but, I fire it up with non ethanol fuel every month as it’s only used in July and august.

Thanks so much for the video. Changed mine on a 2003 Silverado regular cab and the measurements worked out perfectly. My ring was rusted and stuck, but after soaking in wd-40 for a while i got it loose and replaced it, too. Screwed down the door, a little silicone and perfect! I'm not a mechanic by any means, but I had 1 to 2 hours in the whole project from start to finish, spent most of the time trying to get the ring off. Thank you, thank you, thank you! For $150 I did it myself! My local mechanic wanted $800 (in Indiana) and $150 to tow the truck 3 miles to his shop. Hey man, thanks again!!!👍👍

What about rust

I got Tohatsu 30hp 2022 year of manufacture. The instruction manual says not to run the engine when using the hose connection. Flush with engine running must be with the lower unit in a water butt / tank .
