Where is Mike Patey? That is an incredible build. You are an incredible RC Model builder. I'm in amazement at the scale detail.

The full scale was inherently unstable on the yaw axis. That happens when an artist designs a plane and not an aeronautical engineer. Looks over performance. I have seen one guy add a false vertical tail out of clear material to keep the scale look but give it better yaw authority. It was a small foam model though. Sorry about the crash. Hopefully, you will get the bird in the air again soon. Best of luck.

That’s just a characteristic of that design with the tiny vertical area, trailing rudder and large prop with a powerful engine. They aren’t very stable in yaw but shouldn’t depart controlled flight just from throttle changes. That crash was clearly due to a stall. These do have a tendency of reverse aileron control at lower speeds. The uncoordinated spiral suggests that’s what happened. Pilot induced but unrecoverable from that altitude once induced.

Call it superstitious... but never take one or more cameras on the first flight. It brings bad luck

Would that drone have caused any radio interference as you lost the plane right when the drone got close and circled your plane?

Sorry you crashed your plane. From watching the initial takeoff I can see that torque of the propeller is not understood at all. Most RC pilot's seem to think they can overcome torque by utilizing the ailerons. This is completely wrong. You must use the rudder to keep the place going straight down the runway during acceleration and climb out. Otherwise the plane will roll to the left until it's inverted and then diving straight into the ground. Flying a high performance aircraft speed is critical and must be kept up at all times to maintain flight. I suggest you take a wad of your completely disposable income, ( see crashed model plane ) go to the airport and take an introductory flight with a qualified flight instructor. He will let you take off and will help you to go straight down the runway using the rudder peddles. Once in the air he might even demonstrate a few stalls. You get the point? It really is disappointing to watch guys throwing away huge sums of money building RC airplanes and crashing them. I did the same thing once. Then I got myself a real airplane and took flying lessons way back in 1980. Almost 45 year's of flying, reading every crash investigation I can get my hands on, I've learned a great deal about flying from other people crashing, some even dying, and their mistakes. I fly RC airplanes too since about 1981. I've crashed a few models. Even had a mid air crash caused by a not too careful guy wanting to impress me. He impressed me alright but not how you might think. Sorry you crashed your plane. You need to take flying lessons in a real airplane to clear up some concepts that you have no understanding of. However, the real brutality is posting this video and asking for comments. I hope you take my advice. Real airplane. NOT a simulator. You don't need to get a pilots license to get a true sense of how airplanes work. But my bet is once you take the control's of a real airplane you'll want to get your license. Best of luck to you in all your endeavors. BTW, that Gee Bee is one of the nicest builds I think I've ever seen. Anyone with the skill and patience to produce a model that nice has the talent required to get a pilots license. Best of luck again. Carl

Wow. Sorry for your loss. This is why I’ve never flown my R3. It’s too beautiful to crash. Red and white. Bought a ARF kit at an auction for $75. It hangs from the rafters at the warehouse.

This is way I don’t fly RC’s but just like bashers the bigger they are they break into pieces when crashed.

Please wear a mask when cutting carbon fiber if you do not already use one. I am sure you do wear one, but I could not watch this and with a clear conscience not state how harmful carbon fiber is to the lungs. Beautiful build.

Bummer mate. Was all good right up until the stall that it wouldn't recover from. Perfect example of an accelerated stall spin.

As someone else said the design was gorgeous but flawed. Those spats have a great effect during takeoff and need to be balanced by a larger fin area. My take is that it has poor slow speed control. When it was banked the correction on the ailerons caused a tip stall at that airspeed which resulted in a spin at low level and there was not enough room for recovery. Sad to see it crash this early in it's career. However, when you consider our hobby all of our models end up crashing sooner or later ; sorry this was sooner.

Tell ya what, that could have been 100% worse! That’s not that bad.

Difficult to diagnose that one. A possible clue may lie with the fin /rudder instability varying with engine revs. Sympathetic resonance perhaps or,, possibly, 'flutter' even. It may be possible to reproduce this on the bench. Sometimes, changing the Mass of a component can do the trick,,,,,,good hunting !

A very unfortunate episode, it's an interesting looking AC. It looks like a standard GB from the past with a stretched fuselage and Spitfire wings. Hopefully you'll bring it back to life.

Wow it took the crash well. Yeah clearly needed a lot of right tilt on the motor. Hopefully you manage to make it fly good! I think getting information about how much you have to tilt your motor is going to be difficult and non scientific like many things in this hobby.

RC planes and real Para Gliders in close proximty are NOT a good combination!!

Hey Marko, i am sorry for the temporary loss of the GeeBee. That hurts but is still a part of our hobby. I am sure you can rebuilt the plane, it was more or less in one piece after the crash. GeeBee's are real aviation diva's...they don't want to do what the pilot want most of the time 😅 Good luck for the remaiden! 😉👋❤

Beautifully constructed with near perfectly matching flight characteristics of the real airplane. Namely a widow maker. Looked to be a scale stall spin.

Unfortunately, you flew the turns with a lot of bank and too little rudder support. An airplane never likes that. Every turn becomes a critical flight condition. If you add the incorrect engine side thrust angle to that, then stalling is only a matter of time. I hope you get it rebuilt. It is a beauty and deserves a second chance.

Sorry for the nice R3, so beautiful. But most interesting and really dangerous is your flight path. In 2:29 you pass a paraglider on the tow mid air, this should never (!) happen. cross their towing line, flew constantly in their airspace, pass them low level several times and during landing you pass their preparation area directly again. All this is irresponsible for sure. But then stating the R3 flies unstable, hard to keep it in the air makes is worse. Seconds before loosing control you pass the people. Generally never fly above people but doing it with an unstable R/C plane really shows that you don't mind about others.

Reason one is that you are a shit pilot. Reason two is that the design is shit. Tiny vertical stabilizer is not doing a sufficient job of dealing with the change in both slipstream and torque effect. You are all herky jerky on the controls. Go back to trainers and learn to fly.
