You didn't mention Union Bay Village, housing for new faculty members with families needing housing at the UW, situated next to the Union Bay Marsh. My family lived there twice, when my father first started teaching there in 1956 and later when we moved back to Seattle from Norway in 1964 One of our playgrounds was the marsh.
Wow! Great job with this one Bob! A definitely a Subscribe and Like! I was born and raised in the Ravenna area from the early 1950's to about the 1980's. Loved the loop you shared on this vlog. All very familiar to me! Loved the memories❤ l
Thank you! I'm glad I was able to share some stories that were relevant and touched upon your memories of living here.
Can you do Lake Forest Park trails and Interurban North?
I plan to make a video for the northern Interurban-Burke Gilman Connector, but it's not going to be anytime soon because I have an ever-growing list of other projects/videos to make (I need a vacation from life just so I can work on my videos!).
Thanks! What’s the most scenic easy bike ride without too many on road lanes near Shoreline or Lake Forest Park?
That's a good question, as I don't ride very often north of Seattle. It seems like the most frequently used routes follow the 2 Interurban-Burke Gilman Connectors (I made a video for the southern one of the two in 2022, still need to make one for the northern route). The map on this project page may give more info: www.shorelinewa.gov/government/projects-initiatives/interurban-trail-burke-gilman-trail-connectors-project Also, I would recommend checking out the Strava Global Heatmap which does help reveal most-used routes in the area.
Nice work...lots of stuff I did not know...thanks
Great video, thank you!
Thanks for the rail update fix! Especially seeing progress of DT Redmond. Google maps is not keeping up haha. Nice work! The GP12 footage is so nice.
Thank you! I've been riding through the area for a couple of years, checking in on each of the stations to see how they're coming along. It's very exciting to see it getting close to completion!
Very much appreciated. Well done thank you. Very interesting. It helps when you have references to a map and locations here in there in your videos so that we can find what you’re talking about and like there ourselves.
What else you gonna do on a nice PNW day like that! Thanks for the ride!
Absolutely! When it's this nice out, you gotta go for a ride/hike/walk/nap :)
Sound Transit gets replacing pictograms (Stellar Connections) are the original system of Link light rail trains.
I prefer the pictograms myself, but I understand that they wanted to go with a more formalized system. I did have ideas for creating my own pictograms for the 2 Line stations, though, but I didn't have time to properly implement them.
@@bobco85It would still be nice to see your ideas though 🙂

I like to light rail ride 2.
Wow....I have a LOT of East side to catch-up on! Thanks and ride on Bob!
There's a lot of newish trails and connections that opened in the past year; the fenced off bridge at the Wilburton station opened just a week or so later after I filmed everything!
That Hendrix art is cool.
It's hard to find the right time of day to shoot the artwork, but it looks wonderful at night
Try to stay in the bike lanes, and off of the pedestrians side walks.
Made it to the (He/Him), knew nothing interesting would follow.
Lol that narrow tunnel passage, actually has a sign there now. Thay says get off rhe bike and walk it.
Thank you for the e-bike comment. I “acoustic” commuted in Seattle for decades, but in retirement my bad back makes it impossible to get around under just human power. I’ve built an e-bike, using Grin tech that has allowed me to put 3,000 miles on my bike last year and only 350 on my car. Just like you can’t tell why someone uses the elevator instead of the stairs to go one floor, you can’t tell why someone “chooses” to use an e-bike.
It's amazing how something like "e-assist" can both open up a world of biking to more people while also making it more manageable and sustainable for others. I'll continue to be outspoken about including e-bikes in cycling, because to me, the important thing is to get on the bike and enjoy a ride!
can i just say you somewhat inspred me to go on bike rides? Actually one of the main inslirations i had to consifer learning hoe to ride and overall riding more I know this video is ancient but this is still interesting
That's awesome! I'm glad you were motivated to learn how to bike and start riding. There are so many interesting places to explore, so I hope you continue!
So fun. Long commute too bad the train station in Redmond is not open yet.
Kudos for riding to a long ride.
In the future (probably 2026), I will be able to take the light rail to get to the ride a bit faster, so it will be a little easier on the legs by then :)
What a beautiful route. I’ve done Flying Wheels twice now and I just don’t appreciate it enough when I’m riding. Thanks for capturing it on video. Also, I made the same wrong turn myself!
I realized when I looked at the footage that I passed a bright orange and white "Road Closed Ahead" sign, but oh well, I had a good laugh with that other cyclist about it!
I like great jobs with your guy friends for trail miles for Seattle, Washington.
Thank you! It was tough, but my friends and I help motivate and encourage each other to keep riding.
Hey Bob, thank you for sharing your epic ride, over 132 miles in a single ride WOW congrats! Regarding tired legs, some e-bikes have a pedal assist range of over 100 miles, even longer with a swappable battery in one’s backpack. Yet I only saw analog bikes in your video. Personally, I am a huge fan of micro mobility and personal electric vehicles. How do you feel about e-bikes? Thanks again.
I like e-bikes (see my Best 5/Worst 5 of Biking 2023 video), and I actually own one myself that I use for my daily commuting, grocery, cat supply, etc. trips. I save my acoustic bike for weekend recreational and athletic rides like this one, and switching between the two keeps things fresh for me. For Flying Wheels, I think most folks were riding acoustic bikes because the mileage gets a bit iffy for range. In my case, my e-bike has a range of 80 miles in warm weather, so it wouldn't do. The shorter event group rides tend to have more of a mix of folks with acoustic and electric. It's always good to see more people riding bikes!
Awesome video.
Love this!
The Marginal Way barrier was a great add. I always felt near death before crossing over the tracks at the light. Admittedly, my ego gets hit when I get burned by an E Bike, but the bigger point of contention is the E bike subsidy not extending to acoustic. Access should be incentivized for all bike types!
It seems like it should be an easy choice to slow down traffic and give people biking more space, but it was a contentious issue for some. I think subsidies going towards e-bikes is the right way to go since e-bikes have greatly expanded the accessibility of biking to the general population, and acoustic bikes just haven't had that impact. However, I also like how acoustic bikes have been incorporated into many schools so more kids learn how to bike (and hopefully continue into their adulthood), especially those who cannot afford a bicycle.
You were honked at on Lake Washington Blvd because you were riding slowly in the middle of the lane. Wear a helmet and ride like you mean it
There are two Interurban Trails…perhaps they should be renamed or designated differently. The one in the video and the one from Tukwila to Algona parallel to the railroad tracks.
I think the main issue is that the word "Interurban" is too generic (it properly applies to both former interurban train routes). Maybe something more specific like "Seattle-Everett Interurban Trail" & "Tukwila-Milton Interurban Trail" might work?
Walked and road almost all of that already.
Hey ! Thank you for such amazing videos! I'm a beginner and just bought my first bike recently. I was trying to discover something on CZcams, so I can educate myself more on the bikes routes and infrastructure. And I found some of your videos, that helped me a lot. Thank you so much and I'm hoping to see more nice rides and useful historical information. And Mb one day I'll be skilled enough to join some of your group rides!
That's wonderful! I'm glad my videos could help you with your journey into the world of biking. I hope to see you at one of my group rides someday :)
Anyone ever encounter an aggressive cyclist who: (1) don’t follow the law, (2) get themselves in near misses because of their carelessness, and (3) yell at drivers to “share the road”? These cyclists are asking for an accident.
I am new to W Seattle and just moved in. And so I apologize if there is an obvious answer to this. I haven't had time to scout out a lot of these roads. But is there a reason that you don't take Delridge Way back up? Is it just to show different routes or is there a reason you take one route north and one route south?
The reason I don't take Delridge Way going north is that there is no bike infrastructure on it, so people biking are forced to take the lane with faster car traffic. I went with showing an alternative for folks who do not feel comfortable riding in those situations on an arterial.
the skyway library, use to be a tin hut ,I remember walking up to the library with my mom getting a Babar) for her to read to me.
Excellent, thank you Bob!
I added. Screen shot of the SB 6208 info to my phone….just in case! I think I’ll change out the Catrike flag on my recumbent trike for a SB 6208 flag so I can just point to it when I slowly roll through stops signs (with no other traffic)….LOL
Love the the late 90s career core format
Thanks, Bob! This is a great series. Love learning about trails and parks I've been using for decades 🙏
Thank you! I was delayed in creating this video due to a vacation and other events, but I'm glad to keep it going, and I hope to finish it by the end of summer :)
I’m like for how to new things.
It's always interesting to see how our current topography compares to that before all the regrades and water reroutings.
There are definitely a lot of hills that would be much steeper had they not been regraded; my favorite is that Dearborn St (which now runs under the José Rizal Bridge) went from a whopping 19% grade to its current 3% grade!
Thank you for sharing your walk Bob. Perhaps worth mentioning is that the area south east of Husky Stadium was a landfill in the late 1800s and that the area to the north east of Husky Stadium was the Seattle city dump until the 1960s. Thanks again!
The work that folks have done to rehabilitate and restore the Union Bay Natural Area has been amazing after it was used for garbage for so long. Side note: the dump was also the home of fictional character J.P. Patches!
"Centro de la Raza" does not mean people of "all races". It means "The Center for our Race"., but race does not transliterate to English because Mexican Spanish has a different definition of race which is more akin to "our struggle". Seems like you are trying to make the divisive white American definition of race "work".
I think there's some confusion here. The organization El Centro de la Raza specifically uses the words "The Center for People of All Races", which you can see by visiting their website: www.elcentrodelaraza.org/ If you think they are wrong and should correct it, then you should reach out to them.
@@bobco85 Ok, thanks for explaining. That might be their slogan or mission, but not the definition as the video seemed to imply.
thanks for pronouncing dxWTLusH!!!

Surprise i didnt run into you, what's new?

Thank you for including your picture with me! 😍
It was nice to run into you & Roy atop the bridge!
It was a great day for a ride. Some of us detoured at Lincoln Park to go say hi to the troll Bruun Idun.
I was thinking what if they had the route go through there, but it probably would've been a big mess due to the trail conditions leading up to the troll. Bruun Idun is cool, though.
There were good vibes that day. I always appreciate the local history facts in your videos.
Thank you!
This video is amazing but the Tukwila/middle section of this “trail” is a joke… literally crossing over a freeway onramp, what were they thinking planning that.
It's definitely one of the worst spots on the entire trail, though it was not originally installed as part of the trail. I don't know if there are plans to fix it, but potentially having a raised crossing and/or reducing the lanes from 2 to 1 would greatly help.
